The University of Zagreb (Croatian: Sveučilište u Zagrebu, pronounced [sʋe.ǔt͡ʃiliʃte u zâgrebu]; Latin: Universitas Studiorum Zagrabiensis) is the largest Croatian university and the oldest continuously operating university in the area covering Central Europe south of Vienna and all of Southeastern Europe.The history of the University began on September 23, 1669, when the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I issued a decree granting the establishment of the Jesuit Academy of the Royal Free City of Zagreb. The decree was accepted at the Council of the Croatian Kingdom on November 3, 1671. The Academy was run by the Jesuits for more than a century until the order was dissolved by Pope Clement XIV in 1773. In 1776, Empress Maria Theresa issued a decree founding the Royal Academy of Science which succeeded the previous Jesuit Academy. Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer proposed the founding of a University to the Croatian Parliament in 1861. Emperor Franz Joseph signed the decree on the establishment of the University of Zagreb in 1869. The Act of Founding was passed by the Parliament in 1874, and was ratified by the Emperor on January 5, 1874. On October 19, 1874, the Royal University of Franz Joseph I was officially opened. The University is composed of 29 faculties, 3 art academies and 1 university center with more than 70,000 students.

Republic of Croatia Square (Croatian: Trg Republike Hrvatske) is one of the biggest squares in Zagreb, Croatia. The square is located in Lower Town, with the Croatian National Theatre building at its centre. It is sometimes billed as the "most beautiful square in Zagreb".The present-day square was formed in the period between 1856 (when the former hospital was built on its northern side) and 1964 (when the Ferimport building was erected on the western side). However, the majority of buildings overlooking the square were built in the late 19th century in the historicist style of architecture. Republic of Croatia Square was the first in line of three squares which form the west wing of the so-called Lenuci's horseshoe (Croatian: Lenucijeva potkova), a U-shaped belt of squares and parks designed by engineer Milan Lenuci in the late 19th century which frames the core part of Zagreb's city centre. The east wing of the belt is formed by the King Tomislav, Strossmayer and Zrinski squares, and the west wing by the Marulić, Mažuranić and Republic of Croatia squares, with the Botanical Garden connecting the two. The square is home to several cultural and educational institutions and several landmark sculptures.

The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb (Croatian: Hrvatsko narodno kazalište u Zagrebu), commonly referred to as HNK Zagreb, is a theatre, opera and ballet house located in Zagreb.

The Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography (Croatian: Leksikografski zavod Miroslav Krleža or LZMK) is Croatia's national lexicographical institution. Based in Zagreb, it was originally established in 1950 as the national lexicographical institute of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. It was renamed after its founder, the Croatian writer Miroslav Krleža, in 1983.

The Academy of Music (Croatian: Muzička akademija or MUZA) is a Croatian music school based in Zagreb. It is one of the three art academies affiliated with the University of Zagreb, along with the Academy of Dramatic Art and the Academy of Fine Arts. It is the oldest and largest music school in the country, tracing its origins back to 1829 when the Zagreb Musical Society's school (German: Tonschule des Agramer Musikvereines) was established, at a time when Croatia was part of the Austrian Empire. After World War II the Academy was officially recognized as an institution of higher education and in 1979 it became part of the University of Zagreb. The Academy today has around 500 students and a 150-member teaching staff.The Academy traditionally organizes two grand concerts every year held at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, along with almost 300 various smaller concerts throughout the year held at smaller venues around Zagreb.

The Academy of Dramatic Art (Croatian: Akademija dramske umjetnosti or ADU) is a Croatian drama school. Since its inception in 1896, the institution grew in prominence resulting in its successful affiliation with the University of Zagreb in 1979, along with the Academy of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts. The Academy serves as the country's premier drama school, providing education for all types of professions related to theatre, television and film production, including actors, directors, cinematographers, playwrights, screenwriters, dramaturgs and editors.

The Museum of Arts and Crafts (Croatian: Muzej za umjetnost i obrt) in Zagreb, Croatia, was established in 1880, by the initiative of the Arts Society and its former President Izidor Kršnjavi. Drawing on the theoretical precepts of England's Arts and Crafts movement and the intellectual postulates of Gottfried Semper, the museum was devised with the aim of creating a collection of models for master craftsmen and artist to reinvigorate the production of everyday use items. The strategy of the museum's activity was focused on preservation of traditional crafts, as well as creation of a new middle class aesthetic culture. Therefore, in 1882 the Crafts School (today Applied Art and Design School) was founded along the museum. The building, constructed in 1888 by Hermann Bollé, is one of the first purpose-built edifices devised to merge the functions of the museum and the school. Stylistically, the building is a grand historicist palace in the spirit of the German Renaissance. The initial holdings had been founded several years before the Museum was formally assembled. The first permanent display in its unsuitable premises opened in Gajeva Street 26, while the complete permanent display was first seen in its own venue in 1909. The current permanent display, open in 1995 according to the ideas of the former director Vladimir Maleković, and the spatial articulation of architect Marijan Hržić, includes chosen objects from all museum collections. The permanent exhibition extends over three floors at more than 2,000 m2 of museum space and includes about 3,000 exhibits. The displayed objects illustrate the shift of stylistic periods from Gothic to Art Deco.The museum houses more than 160,000 objects spanning from 4th to 20th century. The initial holdings of the Museum had been founded several years before the museum was formally assembled. The first objects for the future museum were bought in 1875 by Izidor Kršnjavi with a donation of bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer at an inheritance auction of Catalan painter and collector Mariano Fortuny in Paris.

The Embassy of Canada to Croatia in Zagreb is the diplomatic mission of Canada to Croatia. This embassy also represents Canadian diplomatic relations with Kosovo. Visas for immigration to Canada are not processed in Zagreb, as they are processed at the Visa Section of the Embassy of Canada to Austria in Vienna.

The Kallina House (Croatian: Kuća Kallina) is a historic residential building in Zagreb, Croatia. The house is located in the city centre on the corner of Masarykova and Gundulićeva streets and is regarded as "one of the finest examples of Secessionist-style street architecture in Zagreb."The house was built between 1903 and 1904 for the wealthy industrialist Josip Kallina and was designed by the Croatian architect Vjekoslav Bastl for the Hönigsberg & Deutsch architecture bureau. Bastl had previously studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna, where he was influenced by the Austrian architect Otto Wagner, an early proponent of Art Nouveau (called Jugendstil in Austria-Hungary) and one of the founding members of the Vienna Secession art movement. The three-story house was designed as a residential building, with the exception of the ground level which was intended to house shops. Bastl's design for a house entirely covered in decorative ceramic tiles was at the same time inspired by the Majolika Haus in Vienna (built by Wagner in 1898, itself covered in ceramic tiling) and a way of turning the building into a giant advertisement for Josip Kallina's ceramics company (all the tiles used for the house were produced by his factory). The building features decorative iron balconies overlooking the street intersection, depictions of floral and geometric motifs typical for the Art Nouveau style of the period, and a bat-shaped patterned motif around the first floor façade. Although many of Bastl's other projects in Lower Town are considered notable examples of the conservative Central European historicism, he allowed freer designs when working on private houses and villas, and the Kallina House today is today described as "one of the most consistent example of the way Secessionist architecture sought to redesign urban dwellings and break from conventional aesthetics."The building is listed in the Croatian Ministry of Culture's Protected Cultural Heritage Registry (Registar zaštićenih kulturnih dobara) since January 2004.Kallina House should not be confused with Villa Kallina, a country house built by the same architect in another part of the city.

Gavella Drama Theatre (Croatian: Gradsko dramsko kazalište Gavella) is a Croatian theatre which is situated in Zagreb, in Frankopanska Street. The theatre opened on October 30, 1954 as the successor of "Helios" cinema which was founded and financed by Croatian industrialist, Adolf Müller.

The Evangelical Church in Zagreb (Croatian: Evangelička crkva u Zagrebu; German: Evangelische Kirche in Zagreb; Hungarian: Evangélikus Egyház Zágrábban; Slovak: Evanjelický kostol v Záhrebe) is an Evangelical Lutheran Church located in centre of Zagreb (Donji Grad, close to the Republic of Croatia Square), Croatia. The church was originally built in period from 1882 until 1884. The building is a free-standing single-nave neo-Gothic church.

Croatian Music Institute (Croatian: Hrvatski glazbeni zavod, HGZ) is the oldest music institution in Croatia. Also, after the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, it is the second most important concert hall in Zagreb. It was founded in 1827 under title of "Musikverein" and has had different purposes through the years: organizing concerts in its concert hall, founding a music school (today the Zagreb Academy of Music), publishing the works of Croatian composers etc. The concert hall is serving mainly for solo and chamber music concerts and is known for its outstandingly rich acoustic. Some of the most famous artists that have performed there are: Franz Liszt, Sviatoslav Richter, David Oistrakh, Mstislav Rostropovich and many others.
