Distington railway station

Lakes College is a further education institute located at Lillyhall, Cumberland, England, between the towns of Workington and Whitehaven. The college offers courses to students from Allerdale, Copeland and the surrounding areas. These courses include NVQs, BTECs, Diplomas and Access courses, as well as HNCs, HNDs and Foundation Degrees. The college is a sponsor of Energy Coast UTC in Workington. In 2018 the northern hub of the National College for Nuclear was launched at the college, funded by £7.5 million from the Department for Education. The college is expected to service the building and operation of new build nuclear power plants, for example the nearby proposed Moorside Nuclear Power Station.

Distington () is a large village and civil parish in Cumbria, England, 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Workington and 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Whitehaven. Historically a part of Cumberland, the civil parish includes the nearby settlements of Common End, Gilgarran and Pica. The parish had a population of 2,247 in the 2001 census, increasing slightly to 2,256 at the 2011 census.South of the village by the Lowca Beck are the fragmentary remains of Hayes Castle, a manor house fortified by Robert de Leyburn in 1322.

Common End is a hamlet within the civil parish of Distington in Cumbria, England. Common End was on the A595 road until it was by-passed.

Energy Coast is a University Technical College (UTC) on the outskirts of Workington, Cumbria that opened in September 2014 for students of ages 14–19. The "Energy Coast" is the coastal region between Silloth and Barrow-in-Furness, it includes the Sellafield nuclear power site and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority as well as wind farms at Walney Island and Robin Rigg.

High Harrington railway station was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) in 1879. It was situated half a mile south of Harrington Junction on the company's main line. and served what was then the eastern extremity of Harrington in Cumbria, England. The station is not to be confused with the current Harrington station a kilometre away on the coastal line.

Harrington Junction was a railway junction in Harrington, Cumbria, England. It joined three branches to the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway's (CWJR) main line from Workington Central to Moor Row via Cleator Moor West. No station ever existed at the junction, High Harrington was the nearest, 48 chains (0.97 km) to the south. Former employees described the junction as the CWJR's "nerve centre".

Harrington railway station, or Church Road halt, was a railway station in Harrington, Cumbria, England. It was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) on the company's Harrington Branch which connected with the Lowca Light Railway at Rosehill to provide a through route from Lowca to Workington Central and beyond.Official, authoritative and regional sources variously refer to the halt as Harrington (Church Road Halt), Harrington Church Road, Church Road Halt and simply Church Road. Sources agree when the halt closed, but differ on when it opened. One authoritative source gives the opening as November 1913, whilst a key source with local knowledge gives both 1918 and November 1913 as the date the halt first appeared on the timetable. A later writer says the halt was in use by September 1913.

Winscales is a hamlet and civil parish in Allerdale, Cumbria, England, south west of Workington. In the 2011 census it had a population of 237.The parish is bordered by Workington to the west, Great Clifton and Little Clifton to the north east, Dean to the south east, and Distington, in Copeland district, to the south. The A595 road and A596 road pass through the parish.There is a parish council, the lowest tier of local government.Winscales Moor Wind Farm is in the north of the parish, and there are industrial developments. The parish council describes the parish as "primarily industrial with few residential properties".In Winscales hamlet there is a pub with the unusual name of "Oily Johnnies" or "Oily's". It was previously the Royal Oak but was renamed after a previous landlord who sold paraffin oil from a shed beside the pub.

Watch Hill is a small hill lying on the western fringe of the Lake District in England, north east of Whitehaven. It should not be confused with another Watch Hill some 19 km to the north-east, near Cockermouth, which is classified as a Marilyn and is one of Wainwright's Outlying Fells.

Rosehill (Archer Street Halt) railway station was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) on the company's Harrington Branch which connected with the Lowca Light Railway (LLR) at Rosehill to provide a through route from Lowca to Workington Central and beyond.Official, authoritative and regional sources variously refer to the halt as Rosehill (Archer Street Halt), Rosehill, Rose Hill and simply Archer Street. Sources also refer inconsistently to this halt and the nearby unadvertised platform at the top of Rosehill (Rose Hill) as Rose Hill, Rosehill, Rose Hill Platform and Rose Hill Junction. Some sources imply that there was only ever one halt at Rose Hill, that being at Archer Street. Sources agree that the halt opened when the line was opened to advertised trains on 2 June 1913, though they remain silent whether unadvertised workmen's trains ran before then. All agree that the halt closed to advertised passenger trains on 31 May 1926 and to closed completely when unadvertised workmen's trains were withdrawn on 1 April 1929.

Harrington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Workington, in the Cumberland district, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England. It is on the Cumbrian coast south of Workington and north of Whitehaven. Historically part of Cumberland, its industrial history, which largely ended in the late 1930s, included a shipbuilders, iron works, coal mining and steel making. It once had five railway stations. It still has one railway station, on the Cumbrian Coast Line, near the harbour. Today, with a population of approximately 3,800, measured at 3,167 in the 2011 Census, it is largely a dormitory village for the employees of the shops and offices and light industry found in Workington. Whitehaven, and Sellafield further down the coast. The parish consisted of Harrington itself, High Harrington and Salterbeck, which is a large housing estate on the Workington side of the parish.

Oatlands railway station served the village of Pica and Oatlands Colliery in the former English county of Cumberland, now part of Cumbria.
