Common End, Cumbria

Watch Hill is a small hill lying on the western fringe of the Lake District in England, north east of Whitehaven. It should not be confused with another Watch Hill some 19 km to the north-east, near Cockermouth, which is classified as a Marilyn and is one of Wainwright's Outlying Fells.

Distington () is a large village and civil parish in Cumbria, England, 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Workington and 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Whitehaven. Historically a part of Cumberland, the civil parish includes the nearby settlements of Common End, Gilgarran and Pica. The parish had a population of 2,247 in the 2001 census, increasing slightly to 2,256 at the 2011 census.South of the village by the Lowca Beck are the fragmentary remains of Hayes Castle, a manor house fortified by Robert de Leyburn in 1322.

Distington railway station was opened jointly by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) and the LNWR and Furness Joint Railway (The Joint Line) on 1 October 1879. It was situated on the northern edge of the village of Distington, Cumbria, England, where the C&WJR's north–south main line crossed the Joint Line's east–west Gilgarran Branch.

Millgrove railway station was a private station on the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) main line from Moor Row to Workington Central. It appears to have served the Burnyeat family who lived at a house named Millgrove in Moresby, Cumbria, England, which was near the company's main line. William Burnyeat (1849-1921) was on the company's Board of Directors from 1900 to 1921.The grid reference, latitude and longitude shown are interpreted from a large scale map showing the station.The station is said to have been in use during the First World War.

Lakes College is a further education institute located at Lillyhall, Cumberland, England, between the towns of Workington and Whitehaven. The college offers courses to students from Allerdale, Copeland and the surrounding areas. These courses include NVQs, BTECs, Diplomas and Access courses, as well as HNCs, HNDs and Foundation Degrees. The college is a sponsor of Energy Coast UTC in Workington. In 2018 the northern hub of the National College for Nuclear was launched at the college, funded by £7.5 million from the Department for Education. The college is expected to service the building and operation of new build nuclear power plants, for example the nearby proposed Moorside Nuclear Power Station.

Moresby Parks railway station was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) in 1879. It was situated just north of the summit of the company's main line and served the scattered community of Moresby Parks in Cumbria, England.

Moresby is a civil parish in Cumbria, England. It had a population of 1,280 at the 2001 census, increasing to 1,997 at the 2011 Census. Most people live in Low Moresby on the east side of the A595, or Moresby Parks, a larger village south of Low Moresby.

High Harrington railway station was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) in 1879. It was situated half a mile south of Harrington Junction on the company's main line. and served what was then the eastern extremity of Harrington in Cumbria, England. The station is not to be confused with the current Harrington station a kilometre away on the coastal line.

Oatlands railway station served the village of Pica and Oatlands Colliery in the former English county of Cumberland, now part of Cumbria.

Moresby Junction Halt railway station was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) in 1910. Very few people lived near the halt, which served nearby Walkmill Colliery and coke ovens in Cumbria, England.The halt consisted of one single wooden platform by the southbound track a short distance south of the junction itself. Northbound trains calling at the halt had to cross to the "wrong line" and reverse or recross when they had dropped and picked up their passengers. The halt was unstaffed and had no facilities whatsoever. Publications both official and authoritative variously referred to the halt as Moresby Junction Halt, Moresby Junction Platform, Moresby Junction and Walkmill Colliery. The halt only ever had one purpose - to bring workers to and from the remote colliery. It appeared in public timetables in 1910 then again from 1913 to 1923, but only northbound, other northbound calls and all southbound calls were made by unadvertised workmen's services. Further research is needed to establish exactly when services to the halt ended, the closest available from authoritative sources is "by 1952".

Copperas Hill railway station served the small clifftop community of Copperas Hill, south of Harrington in the former county of Cumberland, England, which is now part of Cumbria. A public passenger service called at the station between 2 June 1913 and September 1921, though unadvertised workmen's trains had started in April 1912 and continued until April 1929, after which all forms of passenger service ceased. By 1922 the service had settled down to three trains each way between Lowca and Workington Central, though, surprisingly in that age, trains had stopped calling at Copperas Hill in September 1921. There never was a public Sunday service.The station was on the Harrington and Lowca Light Railway which connected with the Cleator & Workington Junction Railway (CWJR) at Rosehill Junction a short distance north of Copperas Hill and south of Harrington Village. Workmen's services to and from Copperas Hill variously ran from Moss Bay Cart Siding, Maryport (during the First World War), Workington Central and Seaton (Cumbria). Public passenger trains ran to these last two only.

Harrington railway station, or Church Road halt, was a railway station in Harrington, Cumbria, England. It was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) on the company's Harrington Branch which connected with the Lowca Light Railway at Rosehill to provide a through route from Lowca to Workington Central and beyond.Official, authoritative and regional sources variously refer to the halt as Harrington (Church Road Halt), Harrington Church Road, Church Road Halt and simply Church Road. Sources agree when the halt closed, but differ on when it opened. One authoritative source gives the opening as November 1913, whilst a key source with local knowledge gives both 1918 and November 1913 as the date the halt first appeared on the timetable. A later writer says the halt was in use by September 1913.
