Durham Township is one of six townships in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The township had a population of 103,863, according to the 2000 census and is currently the most populous township in Durham County. Geographically, Durham Township occupies 41.28 square miles (106.9 km2) in central Durham County. The township is almost completely occupied by portions of the city of Durham, the county seat of Durham County.

Watts and Yuille Warehouses, also known as Brightleaf Square, are two historic tobacco storage warehouses located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. They were built in 1904, and are two identical buildings parallel to each other with a courtyard in between. They are two-story Romanesque style brick structures, seven bays wide and twenty bays long. Each unit of the warehouses is 75 feet by 118 feet, for a total of 35,400 square feet on each floor. They are an example of "slow burn" masonry and wood factory construction. They were among the 12 brick tobacco storage warehouses erected by The American Tobacco Company trust beginning in 1897. The buildings have been converted to retail and office use. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Duke Memorial United Methodist Church is a historic Methodist church at 504 W. Chapel Hill Street in Durham, North Carolina. It was originally established in 1886. The congregation's growth paralleled Durham's growth as a manufacturing center in the textile and tobacco industries and has maintained a close connection with Duke University (formerly Trinity College). From its beginning, the church has counted among its members many of Durham's educational and industrial elite. It is named in honor of tobacco magnate and philanthropist Washington Duke and his sons, who were instrumental in the building of the church.

On April 10, 2019, a gas explosion occurred near downtown Durham, North Carolina at the 115 block of North Duke Street in the Brightleaf District. The blast destroyed several buildings and damaged dozens of others, killing two people and injuring 25 others, including 9 firefighters. City officials cited a gas leak as the cause of the explosion. On June 22, 2020, four lawsuits were filed in relation to the explosion. Each lawsuit represented separate victims of the blast, including one of the two deceased.

Mutual Tower is a 252k-square foot, 14-story skyscraper located in Durham, North Carolina. Built in 1968, the building was previously called the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company Building, Legacy Tower and The Tower at Mutual Plaza. It was designed by M.A. Ham Associates and Welton Becket and Associates. From 1968 to 1987 this building was Durham's tallest.

Clark and Sorrell Garage is a historic automobile repair shop located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It was built in 1932, and is a one-story brick building, three bays wide and four bays deep, with a flat tar and gravel roof. It was expanded about 1941 with a seven bay, brick-faced addition. The addition features an Art Moderne style entrance with a stuccoed surround. Attached to the garage is a two-story office building. It is the oldest auto repair garage still in operation in the city.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Durham station is an Amtrak station located in Durham, North Carolina. It is served by two passenger trains: the Carolinian and the Piedmont. The street address is 601 West Main Street and is located in West Village in downtown Durham. The station is open from 6:30am to 9:00pm daily. There is free, unattended parking at the station. The station is located in the Walker Warehouse building of the former Liggett and Myers tobacco complex. It opened on July 8, 2009. From 1996 to 2009, the Carolinian and Piedmont stopped at an "Amshack" modular station across the street from the warehouse. The platform itself dates from 1990, when the Carolinian began service; passengers used a heated shelter until the "Amshack" was built in 1996. The historic warehouse is a brick structure erected in 1897 by the American Tobacco Company trust. Included in the Bright Leaf National Register Historic District, the building is marked by impressive decorative brickwork such as corbeled pendants and mousetoothing at the cornice and parapet. The station was a joint venture of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the city of Durham. The former entered into an agreement with developer Blue Devil Partners to lease and up-fit one third of the Walker Warehouse, while the city was responsible for 25 percent of the lease costs.The station is frequently used by students at nearby Duke University. Until the Hillsborough station opens, it will also be the nearest station to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Bright Leaf Historic District is a national historic district located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It encompasses 22 contributing buildings and seven contributing structures in an industrial section of Durham. The majority of the buildings were built from the 1870s to the World War II period, and are massive two- to four-story structures, usually rectangular in form with flat or very shallow gable roofs and of fireproof construction with brick exteriors. Notable buildings include the B. L. Duke Warehouse (late 1870s), the Italianate style W. Duke Sons and Company Cigarette Factory (1884), Liggett and Myers Office Building, Chesterfield Building, Flowers Building (1916), Imperial Tobacco Company Factory (1916), White Warehouse (1926), and five Romanesque Revival style buildings built by The American Tobacco Company trust—Walker Warehouse (1897), Cobb Building (1898), O'Brien Building (1899), Hicks Warehouse (1903) and Toms Warehouse (1903).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Franklin Humanities Institute (FHI) is an interdisciplinary humanities center at Duke University dedicated to supporting humanities, arts, and social science research and teaching. Named after the prominent African American historian and civil rights activist John Hope Franklin, who retired from Duke in 1985 as the James B. Duke professor of history, the institute has also made a commitment to promote scholarship that enhances social equity, especially through research on race and ethnicity. The Franklin Humanities Institute is part of a consortium of interdisciplinary research centers and institutes at Duke University. It was formerly located at the John Hope Franklin Center for Interdisciplinary and International Studies at Duke, and is now located in the historic Smith Warehouse on Duke's East Campus.

Bullington Warehouse is a historic tobacco storage warehouse located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, United States. It was built in 1927, and is a three-story Romanesque style brick structure divided into four units by projecting corbeled firewalls. Each unit has approximately 10,000 square feet per floor, giving a total of about 123,000 square feet. It is an example of "slow burn" masonry and wood factory construction. It was the last in a series of brick tobacco storage warehouses, unique in their architectural style, begun in 1897 and ending with this warehouse in 1927. The building has been converted to residential use. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

William Thomas O'Brien House is a historic home in Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It was built about 1890, and is a two-story, Gothic Revival style frame dwelling. It has a center hall plan and features a one-story wraparound porch, an original embossed tin shingle roof, and projecting bays. It was the home of William Thomas O'Brien, who perfected the Bonsack machine for the W. Duke Sons & Company. The house originally sat on a large tract of land that extended to Rome Street. The property included a servants' house, a smokehouse, and a chicken coop.The house, located down the street from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Immaculata Catholic School, played a significant role in Durham's Catholic community. O'Brien, who was Catholic, invited a priest to perform masses in the home until Immaculate Conception was constructed in 1906 on West Chapel Hill Street, on land that O'Brien deeded to the Church. After O'Brien's death in 1907, his wife moved to South Duke Street. In 1919, a carpenter and interior decorator named Edward J. Long lived in the house.Located in the Burch Avenue Historic District, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
