Bright Leaf Historic District

Bullington Warehouse is a historic tobacco storage warehouse located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, United States. It was built in 1927, and is a three-story Romanesque style brick structure divided into four units by projecting corbeled firewalls. Each unit has approximately 10,000 square feet per floor, giving a total of about 123,000 square feet. It is an example of "slow burn" masonry and wood factory construction. It was the last in a series of brick tobacco storage warehouses, unique in their architectural style, begun in 1897 and ending with this warehouse in 1927. The building has been converted to residential use. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Durham School of the Arts (DSA) is a secondary magnet school located in downtown Durham, North Carolina, United States, housing 1,890 students. Its focus is on the visual and performing arts. Arts offerings include 3D and 2D art, chorus, dance, guitar, strings, band, piano, acting, technical theatre, writing, digital media, game art design, and photography. Teachers of all subjects are encouraged to incorporate the arts into their teaching to maximize student engagement. Composite test scores from 2009 are in the top 25% in the district among high schools, and exceed the state average. Approximately 200 students are enrolled in each grade. Students enroll through a lottery system and can be entered into this lottery as early as the sixth grade. The only way to get into DSA is through the school lottery. Students living near the school do not automatically gain enrollment, although many have made it into the school through the official lottery. Most students are admitted in 6th grade, though there are no rules prohibiting entrance after that age, as there is some turnover in higher grades. The primary year for turnover is 9th grade, when many students transfer to other area high schools.

On April 10, 2019, a gas explosion occurred near downtown Durham, North Carolina at the 115 block of North Duke Street in the Brightleaf District. The blast destroyed several buildings and damaged dozens of others, killing two people and injuring 25 others, including 9 firefighters. City officials cited a gas leak as the cause of the explosion. On June 22, 2020, four lawsuits were filed in relation to the explosion. Each lawsuit represented separate victims of the blast, including one of the two deceased.

Durham station is an Amtrak station located in Durham, North Carolina. It is served by two passenger trains: the Carolinian and the Piedmont. The street address is 601 West Main Street and is located in West Village in downtown Durham. The station is open from 6:30am to 9:00pm daily. There is free, unattended parking at the station. The station is located in the Walker Warehouse building of the former Liggett and Myers tobacco complex. It opened on July 8, 2009. From 1996 to 2009, the Carolinian and Piedmont stopped at an "Amshack" modular station across the street from the warehouse. The platform itself dates from 1990, when the Carolinian began service; passengers used a heated shelter until the "Amshack" was built in 1996. The historic warehouse is a brick structure erected in 1897 by the American Tobacco Company trust. Included in the Bright Leaf National Register Historic District, the building is marked by impressive decorative brickwork such as corbeled pendants and mousetoothing at the cornice and parapet. The station was a joint venture of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the city of Durham. The former entered into an agreement with developer Blue Devil Partners to lease and up-fit one third of the Walker Warehouse, while the city was responsible for 25 percent of the lease costs.The station is frequently used by students at nearby Duke University. Until the Hillsborough station opens, it will also be the nearest station to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Durham Central Park is an arts-themed, community-focused, municipal park in downtown Durham, North Carolina. It is located at 502 Foster Street, and is the site of the newly opened Pavilion at Durham Central Park which hosts the Durham Farmers' Market.

Durham Township is one of six townships in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The township had a population of 103,863, according to the 2000 census and is currently the most populous township in Durham County. Geographically, Durham Township occupies 41.28 square miles (106.9 km2) in central Durham County. The township is almost completely occupied by portions of the city of Durham, the county seat of Durham County.

The Durham Arts Council Building is a cultural center located in downtown Durham, North Carolina within the Downtown Durham Historic District, however it is classified as a noncontributing building.

Novus is a 27-story mixed-use tower under construction at 400 West Main Street in Downtown Durham, North Carolina. Expected to open in 2024, the building site is the former location of the South Bank building.

The Durham Farmers' Market is a producer-only farmer's market located in Durham, North Carolina, established in 1998. As part of the Market's emphasis on locally produced produce, crafts and flowers, items sold by the Market's vendors are restricted to traveling no more than 70 miles (112.7 km) on its journey to Durham.

Watts and Yuille Warehouses, also known as Brightleaf Square, are two historic tobacco storage warehouses located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. They were built in 1904, and are two identical buildings parallel to each other with a courtyard in between. They are two-story Romanesque style brick structures, seven bays wide and twenty bays long. Each unit of the warehouses is 75 feet by 118 feet, for a total of 35,400 square feet on each floor. They are an example of "slow burn" masonry and wood factory construction. They were among the 12 brick tobacco storage warehouses erected by The American Tobacco Company trust beginning in 1897. The buildings have been converted to retail and office use. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Foster and West Geer Streets Historic District, also known as the West End, is a national historic district located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 32 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 4 contributing structures in a commercial section of Durham. The buildings primarily date between about 1927 and 1963 and include notable examples of Moderne, Colonial Revival, and Mission Revival architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed City Garage Yard and Fire Drill Tower and Scott and Roberts Dry Cleaning Plant, Office, and Store. Other notable contributing resources include R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company warehouse (1938), the Durham Baking Company (1938), Durham Bulls baseball team ballpark (1939), Fletcher's Service Station (c. 1946), U.S. Naval Reserve Training Center (1948, c. 1955), Uzzle Motor Company (1940, c. 1948, c. 1970), King's Sandwich Shop (1950), and Royal Crown and Seven-Up Bottling Company (1939).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
