Van Gogh Primary

The Type Archive (formerly the Type Museum) is a collection of artefacts representing the legacy of type founding in England, whose famous type foundries and composing systems supplied the world with type in over 300 languages. The Archive was founded in 1992 by Susan Shaw in Stockwell, South London.

Hackford Road is a road in Oval, Lambeth, south London, England. It runs north–south and is located between Clapham Road (A3) to the west and Brixton Road (A23) to the east. To the north is the Oval tube station. The artist Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) lived at 87 Hackford Road, then the house of Ursula Loyer and her daughter Eugenie, in 1873 and 1874. He wrote to his brother Theo van Gogh from this address. He arrived in London to start work at the art dealership Goupil & Co. in Southampton Street, central London, on 19 May 1873.From August of that year, van Gogh lived in Hackford Road. His stay is now recorded with a blue plaque, installed a hundred years later in 1973. He sketched the Georgian terrace opposite Durand School in Hackford Road during the 1870s. There is a small conservation area, first designated in 1974, which includes the house where van Gogh lived.The Type Museum, opened in 1992, is located at 100 Hackford Road, at the southern end.

Platanos College (formerly Stockwell Park High School) is a mixed secondary school located in the Stockwell area of the London Borough of Lambeth, England.The school was converted to academy status on 1 February 2011, and was previously a foundation school administered by Lambeth London Borough Council. The school continues to coordinate with Lambeth London Borough Council for admissions. Platanos College offers GCSEs as programmes of study for pupils. The school also offers a grammar school pathway for gifted pupils.

Christ Church on Brixton Road in Lambeth SW9 is an Art Nouveau and Byzantine Revival Grade II* listed building built in 1902 by Arthur Beresford Pite for his brother-in-law, Rev William Mowll. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on 13 December 1898 by Princess Helena, and the old church was demolished in 1899. The foundation stone, by Edward Johnston, was cut by Eric Gill in 1902. The church was consecrated by Edward Talbot, the Bishop of Rochester, on 5 December 1902. There is a prominent clock on the exterior of church, probably erected at the time of its construction. The outside pulpit in the south-west corner was designed by Weir, Burrows and Weir and was dedicated on 3 November 1907.The present church was built on the site of an earlier chapel, formerly the independent Holland Chapel, which was sold to Anglicans in 1835, enlarged and renamed "Christ Church" in 1855. The foundation stone of the new church hall was laid on 24 July 1897, and the building was completed in 1899. There are five stained glass windows in the church. One is St Paul preaching to the Athenians, by James Powell and Sons, which had been in the previous church building. The other four are by Clayton & Bell: The Good Samaritan, a companion pair of the Sacrifice of Isaac and the Presentation by Hannah of her son Samuel to Eli, and The Resurrection. There was a Hunter organ in the earlier church, which was transferred to the new church in 1902. This was subsequently removed: it is now installed in St Osmund's Church, Derby. It was replaced by a Willis in 1919. This has been supplemented by a digital organ installed in 2007.Located in a recent addition to the church is Café van Gogh, named in recognition of Vincent van Gogh, who lived briefly nearby at 87 Hackford Road, where there is now a Blue plaque and which is open to visitors.

After Exploitation is a UK-based non-profit organisation using investigative methods to track the unpublished outcomes of modern slavery survivors. The group uses Freedom of Information requests to collate cases of wrongful deportation, detention, and failures by agencies to refer slavery victims for support.After Exploitation's launch report revealed that 507 potential victims of human trafficking were detained in 2018. A follow-up investigation revealed that 1,256 potential victims were detained in 2019, illustrating a two-fold increase in the number of vulnerable people detained since safeguarding functions were introduced to curb unnecessary use of Immigration Powers.

Anti-Slavery International, founded as the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society in 1839, is an international non-governmental organisation, registered charity and advocacy group, based in the United Kingdom. It is the world's oldest international human rights organisation, and works exclusively against slavery and related abuses.In 1909, the society merged with the Aborigines' Protection Society to form the Anti-Slavery and Aborigines' Protection Society, whose prominent member was Kathleen Simon, Viscountess Simon. It became the Anti-Slavery Society in July 1947, and from 1956 to 1990 it was named the Anti-Slavery Society for the Protection of Human Rights. In 1990 it was renamed Anti-Slavery International for the Protection of Human Rights, and in 1995 relaunched as Anti-Slavery International.It owes its origins to the radical element of an older organisation also commonly referred to as the "Anti-Slavery Society", the Society for the Mitigation and Gradual Abolition of Slavery Throughout the British Dominions, which had substantially achieved abolition of slavery in the British Empire by August 1838.The new British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society was created to campaign against the practice of slavery in other countries.

Stockwell is a London Underground station in Stockwell in the London Borough of Lambeth. It is located on the Northern line between Oval and Clapham North stations, and on the Victoria line between Brixton and Vauxhall stations. It is in Travelcard Zone 2.The station opened on 4 November 1890 as the southern terminus of the City and South London Railway, the first successful deep-level tube in London. The Victoria interchange opened on 23 July 1971 when that line was extended south from Victoria towards Brixton. The station is known for its World War II air-raid shelters, and for being the location of the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes.

Little Portugal is an area in South London, specifically between Vauxhall, Stockwell and Brixton where there is a large Portuguese community. To some extent, the area geographically corresponds with the South Lambeth area.

The A203 is a primary A road in South London. It runs from Brixton to Vauxhall connecting the A23 and A3 with Vauxhall Bridge, the Albert Embankment as well as the London Inner Ring Road for travel across the River Thames. Between Brixton and Stockwell Underground station it is known as Stockwell Road. North of here it is called South Lambeth Road because it passes by South Lambeth. It is roughly paralleled by the Victoria line through its route.

The Belgrave Hospital for Children in Kennington, London, United Kingdom was a voluntary hospital founded in Pimlico, London in 1866. A new hospital building was constructed between 1899 and 1926 at 1 Clapham Road from a design by Charles Holden. It was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1981 and is currently residential flats.

Kennington is a district in south London, England. It is mainly within the London Borough of Lambeth, running along the boundary with the London Borough of Southwark, a boundary which can be discerned from the early medieval period between the Lambeth and St George's parishes of those boroughs respectively. It is located 1.4 miles (2.3 km) south of Charing Cross in Inner London and is identified as a local centre in the London Plan. It was a royal manor in the parish of St Mary, Lambeth in the county of Surrey and was the administrative centre of the parish from 1853. Proximity to central London was key to the development of the area as a residential suburb and it was incorporated into the metropolitan area of London in 1855. Kennington is the location of three significant London landmarks: the Oval cricket ground, the Imperial War Museum, and Kennington Park. Its population at the United Kingdom Census 2011 was 15,106. Kennington is served by Kennington Police Station.

Vassall ward is an administrative division of the London Borough of Lambeth, United Kingdom. It is also known as 'Myatt's Field' when informally describing the area. It is located in the North of borough bordering Southwark, in the SW9 and SE5 postcode area. The area is named after Henry Vassall-Fox, 3rd Baron Holland who was responsible for the first building development in the area in the 1820s. The ward is made up of mostly Brixton but includes parts of Stockwell, Camberwell, Oval and a very small part of Kennington. The ward is noted for its high numbers of households living in deprived conditions. Housing stock in the ward ranges from large detached houses to towerblocks—ONS figures show that over 61% of housing in the ward is rented from the local authority or from a housing association with many people living on large housing estates such as the Myatts Fields North, Myatts Fields South, Cowley, Holland Town and Caldwell Gardens estate. The ward contains several open spaces and parks including Myatt's Fields Park, Eythorne Park and Slade Gardens. It also contains the churches of St John the Divine, Kennington and Christ Church Brixton Road. At the 2011 Census the population of the ward was 14,143.Vassall ward is located in the Lambeth and Southwark London assembly constituency and is represented by Labour Co-op Member Florence Eshalomi. It is in the Vauxhall parliamentary constituency and is one of four wards in the borough's north Lambeth division.
