West Lake is an at-grade metro station in Atlanta, Georgia, serving the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It serves the area near Westview Cemetery and parts of West Atlanta. The station is located between West Lake & Anderson Avenues in West Atlanta. Bus service is provided at this station to the West End Mall, the Atlanta University Center and Mozley Park.

Historic Collier Heights is a neighborhood in the northwest corner of Atlanta, Georgia. It is bordered to the west by Fairburn Road, the east by Hamilton E. Holmes Drive, the north by Donald L. Hollowell Parkway, and to the south by Interstate 20 bridge at Linkwood Road. It is one of the first communities in the nation built exclusively by African-American planners for the upcoming Atlanta African-American middle class and has been featured in several national publications such as Ebony and Jet magazines, as well as featured in the "Homefinder" section of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Since 2009, the community has been listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places. The community achieved local historic designation in June 2013.

Westview Cemetery, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is the largest civilian cemetery in the Southeastern United States, comprising more than 582 acres (2.36 km2), 50 percent of which is undeveloped. The cemetery includes the graves of more than 125,000 people and was added to the Georgia Register of Historic Places in 2019 and the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.

The B.E.S.T. Academy at Benjamin S. Carson (BEST) was opened in Atlanta, Georgia, United States in August 2007. For a short time the academy was simply referred to as "the boys' single gender academy," but was later named by its first principal, Curt R. Green, in honor of the renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin S. Carson. B.E.S.T. is an acronym for Business, Engineering, Science, and Technology. At its inception, the school served boys in grade 6 with plans for expansion to grade 12 by 2013. The B.E.S.T. Academy is a public school in the Atlanta Public Schools system.

The Battle of Ezra Church, also known as the Battle of Ezra Chapel and the Battle of the Poor House (July 28, 1864) saw Union Army forces under Major General William T. Sherman fight Confederate States Army troops led by Lieutenant General John B. Hood in Fulton County, Georgia during the Atlanta campaign in the American Civil War. Sherman sent Oliver Otis Howard's Union Army of the Tennessee circling around the west side of Atlanta with the purpose of cutting the Macon and Western Railroad. Hood countered the move by sending two corps commanded by Stephen D. Lee and Alexander P. Stewart to block the move. Before Howard's troops reached the railroad, the Confederates launched several attacks on them that were repulsed with heavy losses. Despite the tactical defeat, the Confederates prevented their foes from blocking the railroad. From May to July 1864, Sherman's numerically superior Union forces pressed back their Confederate opponents to the outskirts of Atlanta. Dissatisfied with Joseph E. Johnston, the commander of the Army of Tennessee, Confederate President Jefferson Davis replaced him with Hood. The new commander promptly mounted two major attacks on Sherman's armies in the Battle of Peachtree Creek on July 20 and the Battle of Atlanta on July 22. Both assaults failed with heavy losses on both sides. After Ezra Church, Sherman persisted in his plan to cut the railroads leading into Atlanta for the next month. Hood's army frustrated all Union efforts until the last railroad line was successfully severed on August 31 during the Battle of Jonesborough.

Carey Park is a neighborhood on the Upper Westside of Atlanta with a population of 1,739.It is bordered by: Scotts Crossing on the north Almond Park on the east Hill Street and the Center Hill neighborhood on the south James Jackson Parkway and the neighborhoods of Brookview Heights (including the former site of Bowen Homes) and Monroe Heights together formerly known as the Watts Road neighborhood, on the west.In 1913, the neighborhood was subdivided, with lots offered for sale that same year (see advertisement). The sellers/developers were listed as "John Carey and his son Hon. Dan Carey, Park Commissioner". The 1913 advertisement offers the first fifty lots for sale for $200.00 each. The terms for these first fifty lots was advertised as being $1.00 down, "and one dollar a week, until paid for, without interest or taxes." The city park named Carey Park is also named for John Carey. Carey was born in Montreal, served in the Confederate army and settled in Atlanta in 1880. He died in the 1920s.

Westview is a historic intown neighborhood located in southwest Atlanta, Georgia. It is named for the Westview Cemetery that borders the neighborhood to the northwest. The neighborhood is made up of a mixture of architectural styles including Arts & Crafts bungalows, Four-Squares, Tudors, Minimal Traditional houses, and Ranch style houses.
