White Notley

White Notley railway station is on the Braintree Branch Line in the East of England, serving the village of White Notley, Essex. It is 41 miles 60 chains (67.19 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and it is situated between Witham to the south and Cressing to the north. Its three-letter station code is WNY. The platform has an operational length for twelve-coach trains. In 2018/19 it was the least used station in Essex.The station is currently managed by Greater Anglia, which also operates all trains serving it. Fairstead is a village and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex, England. Whilst isolated in a community of farming hamlets, the parish of Fairstead has close connections with Great Leighs and is 9.8 miles (15.8 km) from Chelmsford, Essex's county town. The parish encompasses the hamlets of Fuller Street and Rank's Green. Fairstead, including Faulkbourne, had a population of 290 according to the 2011 census. In the 1870s, Fairstead was described as being: "a parish in Witham district, Essex; 2¼ miles SW of White Notley r. station and 4 WNW of Witham."

Black Notley is a village and civil parish in Essex, England. It is located approximately 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) south of Braintree and is 9 miles (14 km) north-northeast from the county town of Chelmsford. According to the 2011 census including Young's End it had a population of 2,478.

The Barley Barn is an architecturally important medieval barn, part of a complex of farm buildings at Cressing Temple, Essex, England. The barn was built for the Knights Templar in the early thirteenth century. It has been claimed to be the oldest standing timber-framed barn in the world.

Cressing Temple is a medieval site situated between Witham and Braintree in Essex, close to the villages of Cressing and White Notley. It was amongst the very earliest and largest of the possessions of the Knights Templar in England, and is currently open to the public as a visitor attraction.The site has protection as an ancient monument. The Knights Templar built two barns which are preserved as Grade I listed buildings; one of these medieval barns is claimed to be the oldest standing timber-framed barn in the world.

Cressing is a village and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex, England. Within the parish is the village of Tye Green and the hamlet of Hawbush Green. Cressing Temple is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south from Cressing village, and less than 1 mile east from the village of White Notley. It is nestled between Braintree and Witham, just a couple of miles or one train stop to Braintree Shopping Village, formerly Freeport. The parish contains two churches, one public house (Fowlers Farm), one Restaurant (Il Salice), which is currently one of the top rated restaurants in Essex as of 2022, and a business park. A men's Sunday League and youth football teams play at Cressing Sports and Social Club in Tye Green. Cressing railway station, on the Braintree Branch Line, is at the west of the parish. Sir Evelyn Wood (1838–1919), a Field Marshal and Victoria Cross recipient, was born at Cressing.

Terling (pronounced Ter-ling) is a village and civil parish in the county of Essex, England, between Braintree to the north, Chelmsford to the south-west and Witham to the east.

Terling Place is a country house within the civil parish of Terling, Essex, England, located to the south of All Saints' Church, Terling. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II listed building.It was built for John Strutt, MP between 1772 and 1777 to the designs of John Johnson. The wings, a new porch, a two-storey saloon (with a gallery, and a frieze based on the Elgin Marbles) and a library were added between 1818 and 1824. The house was redecorated in 1850, when a conservatory was added. It is a Grade II* listed building.From John Strutt the house passed to his eldest surviving son, Joseph, whose wife Lady Charlotte FitzGerald was created Baroness Rayleigh in 1821. The 3rd Lord Rayleigh established a laboratory in the west wing, which remains to this day. Indeed, he used apparatus from this laboratory to isolate argon in the cellar of Terling Place in 1894, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1904.

Faulkbourne Hall is a Grade I listed manor house in the village of Faulkbourne in Essex. It is the centre of the manor of Faulkbourne, first recorded under Edward the Confessor. Its grounds contain the parish church, which is dedicated to Saint Germanus. The earliest surviving parts of Faulkbourne Hall, a red-bricked building with turrets, date from the 15th century. Sir Edward Bullock purchased the Hall and the manor of Faulkbourne in 1637 and made substantial additions to the building. Further extensions were made in the 19th century. The Hall is considered a fine specimen of early Tudor red-brick design. Its exterior holds a number of metalled vanes in the form of flags bearing the initials of the Bullock family, which owned the Hall from 1637 to 1897.
