Laak (Dutch pronunciation: [laːk]) is district of The Hague, Netherlands. With a population of 40,222 and an area of 4.3 square kilometres (1.7 sq mi), it is the smallest and least populous of the city's eight districts. The district is officially divided into three neighbourhoods: Laakkwartier, Spoorwijk and Binckhorst. The Hague University of Applied Sciences can be found in Laak. The municipality of The Hague bought the area from the municipality of Rijswijk in 1844. The Amsterdam–Haarlem–Rotterdam railway was constructed in this polder, together with the railway station Hollands Spoor. In the period between 1915 and 1935, the municipality developed a residential neighbourhood in Laak, designed by Dutch architect Berlage.

The Pension de Vogel homeless hostel fire took place at the Scheepmakersstraat 22 in The Hague in the Netherlands on 16 September 1992. After an occupant set a fire 11 people died and 15 people were injured.

The Hague University of Applied Sciences (Dutch: De Haagse Hogeschool), abbreviated THUAS, is a university of applied sciences with its campuses located in and around The Hague in the Randstad metropolitan region in the west of the Netherlands. Research universities are mainly responsible for offering research-oriented courses, whereas universities of applied sciences offer courses that focus on the practical application of arts and sciences with a focus on training and career preparation.

Nieuw Binckhorst is a former industrial area in southeast The Hague, Netherlands, originally called Binckhorst, for which a plan was adopted in 2009 to transform 99.5 hectares (246 acres) into a mixed-use development along the lines of New Urbanism, including residential, employment and entertainment components and with Randstadrail regional light rail service. The Hague's long-term plan Structuurvisie 2020, "Structural Vision 2020", sees Nieuw Binckhorst as a future part of the city center of The Hague. It is seen as fundamental to the realization of the international ambitions of The Hague, and of the Randstad conurbation.

Het Strijkijzer (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈstrɛikɛizər], The Flatiron) is a residential and office skyscraper in The Hague, Netherlands. It is 132 metres (433 ft) with 42 floors, making it the city's third tallest building. In 2007 the building was awarded the Hague New City Prize and the international Emporis Skyscraper Award, with Emporis citing "its elegant reinterpretation of classic high-rise architecture, its contextual approach to a limited site, and its efficient program for accommodating new entrants to the housing market". Inspired by the Flatiron Building in New York City, its name is the Dutch word for an iron. The building contains 300 studio flats for students and first-time property owners, and 51 luxury flats, accessible by a separate lift. There are also furnished flats for rental on a weekly or monthly basis. Below is space for catering, a laundromat, ironing facilities and office space. Since 2011, there is a panoramic terrace on the 42nd floor, which is accessible from the ground floor via a dedicated lift. From the terrace, one can see the ships on the North Sea.

The Haagse Poort (English: Gate of The Hague) is an office building in The Hague, Netherlands. It is an unusual, asymmetrical structure of 275 meters (or 900 feet) long that spans the Utrechtsebaan with a large arch. The Haagse Poort consists of a high-rise part and a low-rise part that are connected by the arch from the eighth floor. The tallest part amounts 70 meters (or 230 feet) and 17 floors. The building offers approximately 108,000 m² (or 1,160,000 sq ft) of office space.

Haagsche Zwaan is an office building on Schenkkade 50 in The Hague. The building is 73.5 meters high and was designed at Studio VollaersZwart by architects ZZDP developed by OVG. The design looks like a swan, that is where the name Haagsche Zwaan comes from. The building is cantilevered 12 meters over the Utrechtsebaan, the gateway to The Hague. Haagsche Zwaan has 20 floors and it is used for office space. Deloitte and Q8 are headquartered in Haagsche Zwaan. The building has an area of 18.000 m². The owner of the Haagsche Zwaan is Union Investment Real Estate GmbH and the administrator is Savills.

Den Haag HS (English: The Hague HS), an abbreviation of the original name Den Haag Hollands Spoor (The Hague Holland Rail), is the oldest train station in The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands, located on the Amsterdam–Haarlem–Rotterdam railway.

Meadows near Rijswijk and the Schenkweg is a watercolor by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh that he made in January 1882, shortly after taking up residence in The Hague.It shows the view from his studio window on the outer reaches of The Hague at the Schenkweg, then undergoing a period of urban development. The view is across the Schenkweg ditch towards the newly constructed Rijnspoor railway station, built for the Utrecht-Gouda-The Hague railway, and now the Den Haag Centraal railway station. Rijswijk was then a small rural community to the south, bordering Delft but stretching all the way to The Hague. The land on which the Rijnspoor was built was ceded to The Hague by Rijswijk. It is now a suburb of The Hague. The painting is amongst the very first paintings by van Gogh. Although he had been drawing for many years and occasionally applied watercolor washes, he did not take up painting proper until his study visit to his cousin-in-law and mentor Anton Mauve at The Hague in December 1881.

Paul van Waarden is a defunct restaurant in Rijswijk, Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 2002 and retained that rating until 2012. The loss of the Michelin star for 2013 was a real shock for the restaurant and they requested a discussion with Michelin. The restaurant closed due to a bankruptcy.For 2013, GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 13 out of 20 points.Head chef of Paul van Waarden was Paul van Waarden.Originally, the restaurant was located in Wassenaar and traded under the name De keuken van Waarden. In 2001, the restaurant moved to Rijswijk and changed its name.

The Beatrixkwartier (literally Beatrix Quarter in Dutch) is a modern financial district in The Hague, near the Central Station, in the Bezuidenhout district. The name was thought up when they were renewing the Beatrixlaan. Officially this area is the strip of buildings along the Utrechtsebaan from Nationale Nederlanden to the Palace of Justice. Besides Nationale Nederlanden, many large international companies such as KPN, Siemens, PostNL, Sdu, Deloitte, Q8 and MN Services are located here. The Beatrixkwartier also hosts the World Trade Center The Hague in the Prinsenhof building. The central axis of the quarter is the Prinses Beatrixlaan along with the Beatrixkwartier RandstadRail station halfway past the Netkous viaduct, which opened on October 29, 2006. Furthermore, the neighborhood is intersected by the A12 motorway.
