South Santa Clara Valley is a census county division (CCD) located in south Santa Clara County, California. The area covers approximately 118 square miles (310 km2), and includes the cities of Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy as well as their immediate outlying unincorporated areas. The area is bounded by Coyote to the north, Llagas-Uvas to the west, Diablo Range to the east, and San Benito County to the south. As of the 2010 US Census, the population was 103,477 residents of whom 47.0% were Hispanic, 40.8% non-Hispanic white, 7.6% Asian, and 4.6% of other races, with a median age of 40.5 years old.Most residents and businesses in the area use postal zip codes from neighboring cities of Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy. Gilroy is a city in Northern California's Santa Clara County, south of Morgan Hill and north of San Benito County. Gilroy is the southernmost city in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a population of 59,520 as of the 2020 Census. Gilroy's origins lie in the village of San Ysidro that grew in the early 19th century out of Rancho San Ysidro, granted to Californio ranchero Ygnacio Ortega in 1809. Following Ygnacio's death in 1833, his daughter Clara Ortega de Gilroy and son-in-law John Gilroy inherited the largest portion of the rancho and began developing the settlement. When the town was incorporated in 1868, it was renamed in honor of John Gilroy, a Scotsman who had emigrated to California in 1814, naturalized as a Mexican citizen, adopted the Spanish language, and converted to Catholicism, taking the name of Juan Bautista Gilroy.Gilroy is known for its garlic crop and the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, featuring various foods containing garlic. These led to the city being nicknamed the Garlic Capital of the World. It is also known for boutique wine production, as part of the Santa Clara Valley AVA, mostly consisting of family vineyards around the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west.

The Dennis DeBell Uvas Creek Park Preserve is a 125-acre greenbelt preserve operated by the City of Gilroy in southwest Santa Clara County, California. The Uvas Creek, which meanders through the center of the preserve, is its defining characteristic. The preserve is bordered by Uvas Creek Levee on the north, and by Christmas Hill Park on the south. A paved trail runs for approximately 2 miles along the boundary of the preserve, and can be used for jogging, hiking or bicycling.The park is open seven days a week from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM from March - October, and 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM from November - February.

Lions Peak is a prominent hill in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in southwest Santa Clara County, California. The landmark lies west of San Martin, and is adjacent to the resort village of CordeValle. The headwaters of Lions Creek originate on the eastern flank of the hill, and flow southward before merging with Llagas Creek in Gilroy. The hill and surrounding area is located on approximately 1,400 acres (570 ha) of privately owned lands, and is viewable along U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 152 in South Santa Clara Valley.

The Wheeler Hospital was a historic hospital constructed in 1929, in Gilroy, California. The hospital was designed by California architect William Henry Weeks and funded by merchant Lin Walker Wheeler. The Wheeler Hospital was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1990. In 1990, the Wheeler Hospital merged with an elder care facility to establish the Wheeler Manor Senior Apartments.

The Miller Red Barn is a historic wooden hay barn constructed in 1891, in Gilroy, California, using pole construction techniques. It was erected on land belonging to Henry Miller, a prominent California cattle baron of that era. The barn is most known for its connection to agriculture production in Santa Clara County, and its role within the agricultural estate of Henry Miller, who was a partner in the cattle-raising and meat-packing enterprise of Miller & Lux in San Francisco. The Miller Red Barn was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 26, 2016.

Wings of History is an aviation museum in San Martin, California. It is a nonprofit organization that operates using donations and membership dues. The museum also has a restoration shop, library, and propeller shop.

Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park, often shortened to Gilroy Gardens, is a horticulture-themed amusement park located in Gilroy, California, United States. Designed and built by Michael Bonfante, the park originally opened as Bonfante Gardens in 2001. The 536-acre theme park (217 ha) is owned by the city of Gilroy and operated by Gilroy Gardens, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; it features over 40 rides and attractions and is known for its Circus Trees, created by Axel Erlandson.

The Gilroy Free Library is a Carnegie Library building in Gilroy, California. The building is now the location of the Gilroy Museum.

The Edgar Holloway House is a historic house in Gilroy, California. It was built in 1903 for Edgar and Dora Holloway, whose grandparents had taken part in the California Gold Rush. After they died in 1912–1913, the house was sold out of the Holloway family. It belonged to the Barshinger family until 1949, and it was later repurposed as a battered women's shelter.The house was designed by William H. Weeks in the Colonial Revival and Victorian architectural styles. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since January 28, 1982.

On July 28, 2019, a mass shooting occurred at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California. The gunman killed three people and wounded 17 others before killing himself after a shootout with responding police officers.As of 2020, investigators had not determined the motives of the gunman, identified as 19-year-old Santino William Legan. The FBI opened a domestic terrorism investigation into the incident.

Christmas Hill Park is a 51-acre community park operated by the City of Gilroy in southwest Santa Clara County, California, US. The park provides trails for jogging, hiking and bicycling, as well as soccer and baseball/softball diamonds for group sports, and multiple picnic areas. The Christmas Hill Park Ranch Site adjoins east of the park, and provides an environmental education center, as well as additional sports facilities.The park is open seven days a week from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm from March to October, and 6:00 am to 8:00 pm from November to February.
