Favela Santa Marta (Portuguese pronunciation: [fɐˈvɛlɐ ˈsɐ̃tɐ ˈmaʁtɐ], Saint Martha's favela) is a favela located in the Botafogo and Laranjeiras part of the Morro Dona Marta (pronounced [ˈmoʁu ˈdõnɐ ˈmaʁtɐ], Dame Martha's Hill), that is also divided with the neighborhoods of Flamengo, Cosme Velho and Silvestre, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It has about 3,913 residents and 1,287 domiciles, with 500 wooden houses, 2,000 brick houses, 4 kindergartens, 3 bakeries, 2 sports fields, 1 block of a samba school, 3 military units and 1 small market. The favela is one of the steepest in the city, with an altitude of 352 metres (1,155 ft), approximately 45 degrees of inclination and occupies an area equivalent to 53,706 square metres (578,090 sq ft).Recently, the favela has been undergoing a process of urbanization. Several popular houses were built with sewage, water piping and installation of electrical cables. One of the most important works done in recent years in Dona Marta was the construction of a cable car that facilitates the transport of residents to higher areas of the hill. Morro Dona Marta, according to the Director Plan of the Municipality of Rio de Jаneiro (2011), is considered a Municipal Landscape Heritage subject to Environmental Protection, having an expressive vegetation of the Atlantic Forest and is included in the Área de Proteção Ambientаl (in English: Environmental Protection Area – APA), created in 1967.Another major change in Dona Marta was the occupation of military force. On November 28, 2008 the control of Dona Marta was turned to civil police forces when Rio's first Pacifying Police Unit was established there. Between 2008 and 2013 the favela had no drug trafficking activity. Since 2013 criminal activities have raised.Dona Marta was the setting for international events as part of the clip of "They Don't Care About Us by Michael Jackson. and appearances in Bike Downhill MTB of Redbull and the film Fast Five. Madonna, Alicia Keys and Beyoncé had also visited the community between 2009 and 2010. On June 26, 2010, a year after the death of American singer Michael Jackson, the State Department of Tourism, Sport and Leisure (SEEL) funded the works of a public space on the slab where the King of Pop had performed in 1996, it's possible to find a statue in his honor.

O Museu do Índio (English: The Museum of the Indian) is a cultural and scientific agency of the Fundação Nacional do Índio (English: National Foundation of the Indian) or FUNAI. It was created by Darcy Ribeiro, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1953. As the only official institution in Brazil exclusively dedicated to indigenous cultures (the people known as povos indígenas in Portuguese), the museum has the objective of promoting an accurate and updated image for the indigenous cause, while avoiding common misconceptions and prejudice of these societies.

St. Ignatius School, Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese: Colégio de Santo Inácio, Rio de Janeiro), is a Brazilian private, Catholic school, located in the neighborhood of Botafogo in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It serves students from kindergarten through secondary school, and includes also a night school for youth and adults. The schools was founded in 1903 by the Society of Jesus. The architectural ensemble of the institution, which includes the original school building, the Church of Our Lady of Victories, the Anchieta House, and the headquarters of the Marian Congregation Our Lady of Victories, was listed as an historical site by the city of Rio de Janeiro in 2007.

Cosme Velho is a neighborhood in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, adjacent to Laranjeiras. Its main street is Rua Cosme Velho, an extension of Rua das Laranjeiras. Cosme Velho is frequently visited by tourists.The Estação de Ferro do Corcovado (terminus of the Corcovado Rack Railway) is located here. Trains carry passengers from there to the summit of Corcovado Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The neighbourhood also includes the picturesque Largo do Boticário, which consists of a small square enclosed by several neocolonial style houses, built in the 1920s. The houses were constructed using materials from much older buildings in the city's Centro district which had been demolished. There are two houses from the first half of the 19th century at the entrance to the square. The writer Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis lived in a house at 18 Rua Cosme Velho from 1883 until his death in 1908. Machado acquired the nickname "Bruxo do Cosme Velho" ("Wizard of Cosme Velho"), supposedly because he was in the habit of burning his discarded documents in a cauldron. The house has since been demolished and an apartment block has been built in its place.

Humaitá is a residential district in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is situated between the foot of Corcovado Mountain and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Neighbouring districts are Botafogo, Lagoa and Jardim Botânico. The name of the district commemorates the Siege of Humaitá in southern Paraguay, fought during the Paraguayan War in August 1868. In 1657, Father José Martins de Matos, Vicar of the Bishopric dedicated a chapel (then recently constructed, on the wooded lower slopes of Corcovado, a site at the end of the street now called Rua Viuva Lacerda) and opened the "Caminho Novo" (new path/way) to São Clemente (St. Clement). Nowadays this path has become a major thoroughfare, Rua São Clemente, which passes through Botafogo and Humaitá. In September 2004 the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro created a "Polo Gastronômico" (Gastronomy Precinct) in the area bounded by the Streets São Clemente, Humaitá, Visconde Silva, Visconde de Caravelas, Pinheiro Guimarães, Real Grandeza, Mena Barreto, São João Batista and Voluntários da Pátria, all within Humaitá and neighbouring Botafogo.

Botafogo (local/standard Portuguese pronunciation: [bɔtaˈfoɡu] alternative Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation: [botɐˈfoɡu]) is a beachfront neighborhood (bairro) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a mostly upper middle class and small commerce community, and is located between the hills of Mundo Novo, Dona Marta (which separates it from Laranjeiras) and São João (which separates it from Copacabana). The word Botafogo also refers to a Latin American ballroom dance move, named so because the area of Botafogo is where it originated.

Cemitério de São João Batista (lit. 'Saint John the Baptist's Cemetery') is a municipal necropolis originally owned and operated by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro (Holy House of Mercy of Rio de Janeiro), and run, since August 2014, by the private company Rio Pax.Located in the neighborhood of Botafogo, it is the only cemetery in the city's south area, the Zona Sul, and, on October 5, 2015, it became the first cemetery in Latin America to be featured in Google Street View.

Associação Civil de Divulgação Cultural e Educacional Japonesa do Rio de Janeiro ("Civil Association of Japanese Educational and Cultural Dissemination of Rio de Janeiro"; Japanese: リオ・デ・ジャネイロ日本人学校 Rio de Janeiro Nihonjin Gakkō "Japanese School of Rio de Janeiro") is a Japanese international school in Cosme Velho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.It was established on August 2, 1971 (Shōwa 46). It opened to serve employees of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries. The student body decreased after the shipyard closed in 1994. The school was previously in Santa Teresa; the former campus became the Ginásio Experimental Olímpico.

Fonte da Saudade is a region in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, which is not officially recognized as a neighbourhood. It is located in the neighborhood of Lagoa.

Christ The Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor, standard Brazilian Portuguese: [ˈkɾistu ʁedẽˈtoʁ]) is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida sculpted the face. Constructed between 1922 and 1931, the statue is 30 metres (98 ft) high, excluding its 8-metre (26 ft) pedestal. The arms stretch 28 metres (92 ft) wide. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. Christ The Redeemer differs considerably from its original design, as the initial plan was a large Christ with a globe in one hand and a cross in the other. Although the project organisers originally accepted the design, it later changed to the statue of today, with the arms spread out wide. The statue weighs 635 metric tons (625 long, 700 short tons), and is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca National Park overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. A symbol of Christianity around the world, the statue has also become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil and was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
