Golborne Road is a street in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London's Kensal Town. The road runs east from Portobello Road to Kensal Road. Golborne Road is situated just north of and parallel to the Westway; it also joins Portobello Road. The nearest Underground stations are Westbourne Park and Ladbroke Grove. It is a major street within the Golborne electoral ward of the local authority, Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council, which also includes the nearby Trellick Tower (pictured) and Grand Union Canal.

I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet is a clothing boutique which achieved fame in 1960s "Swinging London" by promoting antique military uniforms as fashion items. I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet was opened by Ian Fisk and John Paul soon joined by Robert Orbach at 293 Portobello Road Notting Hill, London, in 1965. Among the shop's customers were Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix.Robert Orbach arranged for his ex boss Warren Gold aka Lord John to rent the shop in Wardour Street to John Paul. Another new branch of Kitchener's was opened in Foubert's Place, off Carnaby Street, also arranged by Orbach selling militaria and Swinging London novelty items, that was rented from Henry Moss and Harry Fox of Lady Jane fame. In 1967 two more Kitchener's outlets opened on Carnaby Street and later expanded to sites in Piccadilly Circus and then King's Road (where the shop was named I Was Lord Kitchener's Thing). The military uniforms on sale largely consisted of scarlet tunics derived from pre-1914 stocks that had been withdrawn from regular army use upon the outbreak of World War I. In the summer of 1967, Fisk and Paul dissolved their partnership. Fisk took sole ownership of the Portobello road premises, which became the Injun Dog head-shop (subtitled Once I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet). The last Kitchener's outlet in Coventry Street closed its doors in 1977, but is still remembered as an important Swinging Sixties boutique. The New Vaudeville Band recorded a song titled "I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet", in tribute to the shop, which didn't chart.In 2021, John Paul relaunched I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet as an online boutique.

Lisboa Patisserie is a long-running Portuguese cafe and bakery in London's Golborne Road. It is particularly known for its pastel de nata cakes.According to Time Out magazine, "Don’t arrive too late at the weekend if you want one of Lisboa’s famous pastel de nata – they often sell out by 2pm. It’s a humble setting, with plenty of banter from staff and slightly fancier pâtisserie than some other Portuguese cake shops. Bica (Portuguese espresso) was good and strong, and they do a nice galão (latte) too."Secret Diary of a Call Girl was filmed at this shop for a scene in the first season, first episode. The characters played by Billie Piper and Iddo Goldberg eat at an outdoor table. Ben, played by Goldberg, comments about the custard tart crust being handmade. Yotam Ottolenghi, the Israeli-born cookery writer and chef-patron says that it is one of his favourite shops in London. It has been in Golborne Road since at least the 1990s.

Ladbroke Grove is a London Underground station on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines, between Latimer Road and Westbourne Park stations, and in Travelcard Zone 2 set in The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Kensal Town is a district located partly in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and partly in the City of Westminster. The area lies four miles north-west of Charing Cross and is part of the W postcode area. Kensal Town was an exclave of Chelsea from the middle ages, through to 1900.

The Elgin is a Grade II listed public house at 96 Ladbroke Grove, London.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in the mid-19th century, and the architect is not known.The Elgin was a mod venue in the 1960s and a punk rock one in the 1970s. In May 1975 The 101ers were offered a weekly residency there which led to a nine-month stay.Notable regular patrons have included the serial killer John Christie and Joe Strummer of The Clash.

The Museum of Brands in London examines the history of consumer culture from Victorian times to the present day. The museum was set up as a registered charity in 2002, and is now located at 111-117 Lancaster Rd, Notting Hill, London W11 1QT.

Westbourne Studios is a Westbourne Park, West London office development of approximately 100 work spaces, aimed at young creative businesses in the Notting Hill area. Completed in January 2002, the studios were built on the site of the old Great Western Railway Broad Gauge sidings by Westbourne Park tube station. Dickon Robinson of the Peabody Trust described the studio's courtyard as "the most interesting internal space in London in the last decade". The building is a triangular, curvilinear structure in a deep shade of purple. In section, the profile is U-shaped with the Westway motorway crossing the building's centre, doubling as roof to the central social area. It was designed by Graham Clark architect for clients Nick and Simon Kirkham with John Tooke and Partners as structural engineers and Patrick Bellew of Atelier10 was the environmental engineer. Though the design was originally accredited to the Kirkhams in the press, retractions have been issued and Graham Clark has been acknowledged as the designer of the project.In addition to the office facilities, the building has a variety of communal spaces, a bar and café, an exhibition space and other amenities. It has hosted an opera, and is a venue for the Portobello Film Festival.

Emslie Horniman's Pleasance is a park in Kensal Town, in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London. It is named after Emslie John Horniman the MP for Chelsea (of which Kensal Town was then an exclave) who created it. It opened in 1914. The park is the traditional starting point for the Notting Hill Carnival.The Pleasance contains a notable walled garden in the Arts and Crafts style, designed for Horniman by C.F.A. Voysey and Madeline Agar. Voysey's walls and shelters are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.It is located on Bosworth Road, Kensal Town, on the southern side of the Grand Union Canal, near to Notting Hill. The nearest tube station is Westbourne Park. The park also contains tennis courts, five-a-side football pitches, a hard play area and a children's playground.

Trellick Tower is a Grade II* listed tower block on the Cheltenham Estate in North Kensington, London. Opened in 1972, it had been commissioned by the Greater London Council and designed in the Brutalist style by architect Ernő Goldfinger. The tower was planned to replace outdated social accommodation, and designed as a follow up to Goldfinger's earlier Balfron Tower in East London. It was the last major project he worked on, and featured various space-saving designs, along with a separate access tower containing a plant room. High-rise apartments and Brutalist architecture were falling out of favour by the time the tower was completed, and it became a magnet for crime, vandalism, drug abuse and prostitution. Its fortunes gradually improved in the 1980s after the establishment of a residents' association. Security measures were put in place and a concierge was employed, which led to lower crime levels. By the 1990s, the tower had become a desirable place to live, and although it still contains predominantly social housing, demand for private flats has remained high. A local landmark, it has been Grade II* listed since 1998, and has retained its distinctive concrete facade as a result. A fire broke out in 2017, but the concrete structure meant damage was limited, unlike the nearby Grenfell Tower. Trellick Tower has featured on film and television several times.

Thameside Radio was an unlicensed radio station based in London. It launched in the winter of 1977, offering "very slick pop rock with competitions", according to Time Out. According to the Richmond and Twickenham Times, it broadcast from "a certain Notting Hill tower block" – a reference to Trellick Tower.The station received 30-40 letters each week and had an estimated listenership of around 20,000. It pioneered new music, and is noted by the New Musical Express for giving airplay to "Win a Night Out with a Well-Known Paranoiac" by Barry Andrews, which was subsequently picked up by BBC Radio 1.Increasing numbers of raids resulted in the station losing five transmitters in six months and the station ceased live transmission, instead taping its shows shortly before broadcast.Recordings of a number of Thameside Radio shows are held by the British Library. Many shows are available for download from fmthen.com In late 1984, Thameside set up the first London unlicensed TV station for a one-off event.
