Washburn Historic District

Carson-Andrews Mill and Ben F.W. Andrews House, also known as Andrews Mill, is a historic home and grist mill located near Washburn, Rutherford County, North Carolina. The Carson-Andrews Mill was built between about 1830 and 1835, and is a two-story-with-attic heavy timber frame grist mill. Operation of the mill ceased in the early 1930s. The Ben F. W. Andrews House was built between about 1904 and 1908, and is a two-story, Colonial Revival style frame dwelling with a one-story rear ell. It features a pedimented, two-tier center-bay porch with one-story wraparound sections. Other contributing resources are the landscaped grounds, water wheel and stone mount (1897), flower house (c. 1908–1910), and privy.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Bostic Charge Parsonage is a historic home located at Bostic, Rutherford County, North Carolina. It was built in 1922, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, three-bay, Bungalow / American Craftsman-style brick and frame dwelling. It features a side-gabled roof, center shed dormer, and full-width front porch. It was built as a parsonage for a minister serving five local Methodist churches.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Melton-Davis House, also known as the Cannie Melton House, is a historic home located near Bostic, Rutherford County, North Carolina. It was built about 1904, and is a one-story, weatherboarded, Queen Anne-style frame dwelling. It sits on a concrete block foundation and consists of two main gable-front, double-pile blocks that flank the center hall, and its ornamental finish. Also on the property is a contributing barn, built between about 1904 and 1915.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

It encompasses 115 contributing buildings and 3 contributing structures in a predominantly residential section of Forest City. The district developed after 1914, and includes notable examples of Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed T. Max Watson House. Other notable buildings include the Brown-Griffith House (1923), Dr. W. C. Bostic Jr. House (1926), John W. and Bertha M. Dalton House (1939), J. H. Thomas House (1922), and the Marley Sigmon House (1962).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Cliffside Public School is a historic school complex located at Cliffside, Rutherford County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect Louis H. Asbury (1877-1975) and built in 1920–1921. It is a two-story on basement, "T"-plan, Classical Revival style terra cotta tile building sheathed in glazed brick. The front facade features a tetrastyle two-story portico of Indiana limestone. The vocational and physical education building, erected by the Work Projects Administration in 1940–1941. Also on the property are the contributing series of fieldstone masonry structures built in 1940–1941.It sits on landscaped grounds designed by Earle Sumner Draper.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Cool Springs High School is a historic high school building located at Forest City, Rutherford County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect Louis H. Asbury (1877-1975) and built in 1924. It is a two-story on basement, "T"-plan, Classical Revival style red brick building. The front facade features a shallow four-column Tuscan order portico with echoing pilasters. In May 1998 it ceased to be used for instructional purposes.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It is located in the West Main Street Historic District. Note: There was also a historic Cool Spring High School in Cool Springs Township, Iredell County, North Carolina.

T. Max Watson House is a historic home located at Forest City, Rutherford County, North Carolina. It built in 1939, and is a two-story, five-bay, central passage plan, Georgian Revival style white brick dwelling. It has a side-gable roof covered with interlocking red clay tiles. The front facade features a central projecting bay, one-story portico supported by three Ionic order columns, and second floor Palladian window.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. It is located in the East Main Street Historic District.

McNair Field is a 2,000 seat baseball stadium located in Forest City, North Carolina. It was built in 2008 as the home of the Forest City Owls baseball team. It is also used for select games of the Gardner–Webb University Runnin' Bulldogs (Big South), Appalachian State Mountaineers (Sun Belt), Western Carolina University Catamounts, and Wofford College Terriers (SoCon) college baseball games.Amenities at McNair Field include a beer garden down the right-field line, a popular feature in the summer-collegiate Coastal Plain League, as well as concession stands down the foul lines, a scoreboard complete with one of the CPL's only videoboards, which measures 8'10" by 15', minor league-style dugouts and bullpens, and a state-of-the-art lighting system. It is named for Robert McNair, a Forest City native and founder of the Houston Texans football team.

Other notable contributing resources include the Cool Springs Cemetery (est. 1867), First Presbyterian Church (1940), the Cool Springs Gymnasium (1958), Lovelace-Ragin House (1928), Harrill-Wilkins House (1925), Frank B. and Mae Bridges Wilkins House (c. 1910), McDaniel House (1913), Biggerstaff-Griffin House (1925), and McMurry-Bodie House (1928).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Baldwin, the Blanton Hotel (1925), the Reinhardt Drug Company Building (by 1908), the First Wesleyan Church (1922), and the Florence Mill (1897-1941).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, with a boundary increase in 2004.
