Havelterberg

Darp is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. In 2001, the town of Darp had 507 inhabitants. It is a suburb of the municipality of Westerveld, and lies about 19 km west of Hoogeveen. The current name was first mentioned 1851-1855 as "sic: Erp", and means village. It used to be called Hesselte (1206 in Hesle). The reason for the name change is unclear.Much of the village was demolished in 1942 by the Germans to construct the military airfield Havelte. After 1948, part of the village was rebuilt further to the west.

Frederiksoord is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Westerveld, and lies about 24 km northwest of Hoogeveen. Frederiksoord was founded in 1818. It was the headquarters of the 19th century Society of Humanitarianism, an organization dedicated to eradicating poverty by providing work for the able-bodied poor in newly-built farming colonies. The name Frederiksoord comes from the patron of the organization: Prince Frederick of Orange-Nassau. Along with other colonies funded by the Society, Frederiksoord was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021 for its testimony to a unique method of housing reform.

Nijensleek is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Westerveld, and lies about 5 km north of Steenwijk. The village was first mentioned in 1402 as Nyensleker bure, and means "new natural stream". Nijensleek is a road village which developed in the Late Middle Ages as a peat excavation settlement.Nijensleek was home to 363 people in 1840. In 1934, a Reformed Church was built as an aisleless church with ridge turret.

Steenwijkerland (Dutch pronunciation: [steːɱˌʋɛikərˈlɑnt] ; Dutch Low Saxon: Stienwiekerlaand or Steenwiekerlaand) is a municipality in the province of Overijssel, in the eastern Netherlands. Prior to a name change in 2003, it was known as Steenwijk. The municipality forms the entire northwesterly corner of the province. This area is called "the Head of Overijssel" (in Dutch: de Kop van Overijssel). It borders the province Friesland. The seat of the municipality, Steenwijk, with a population of about 17,100, is situated on the A32 motorway (Zwolle – Meppel – Leeuwarden) and has a railway station on the line connecting those same cities.

Meppel (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmɛpəl] ; Drents: Möppelt) is a city and municipality in the Northeastern Netherlands. It constitutes the southwestern part of the province of Drenthe. Meppel is the smallest municipality in Drenthe, with a total area of about 57 km2 (22 sq mi). As of 1 July 2021, it had a population of 34,506 with over 30,000 inhabitants within city limits. People born in Meppel are occasionally referred to as Meppeler Muggen in Dutch; this translates as 'mosquitoes from Meppel'. The nickname comes from a traditional folk tale. The people of Meppel thought the church tower was on fire, but after closer inspection, they realised it was only a swarm of mosquitoes.
