Spui, Zeeland

Axel is a city in the southwest Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Terneuzen, Zeeland, about 31 km southeast of Vlissingen. Axel received city rights in 1213.

Sluiskil is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 27 km southeast of Vlissingen. The village was first mentioned in 1839 as Sluiskil, and means "exit canal of the sluice". The village is located on the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal where there used to be a trench to the Axelse Gat. Sluiskil is a canal village which developed along the Ghent-Terneuzen canal. Factories were constructed on the east side in the early 20th century. Between 1960 and 1968, the canal was widened and a part of the west side was demolished. Sluiskil was home to 109 people in 1840.The Catholic St Antonius of Padua Church was built between 1900 and 1901 to replace the monastery church of 1897 which burnt down in 1900. It is a single-aisled church with a ridge turret. It was modernised in 1962. In 2015, the Sluiskiltunnel opened as a replacement of the bridge over the canal. The bridge averaged 23 opening a day and used to cause large traffic jams.

Zuiddorpe is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 34 km southeast of Vlissingen.

Zandstraat is a small village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 27 km southeast of Vlissingen. Zandstraat is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Sas van Gent. Zandstraat developed after 1848 when the land was poldered. It consists of about 150 houses. The Catholic Pastor van Erk Church was built in 1949 and decommissioned in 2013.

Boschkapelle is a former village and municipality in the Netherlands. It is now part of the village of Vogelwaarde. Boschkapelle was home to 375 people in 1840. The municipality of Boschkapelle consisted of the village itself, and the neighbouring villages of Kamperhoek and Stoppeldijkveer. In 1936, it merged with the municipality of Stoppeldijk to form the new municipality of Vogelwaarde. The two villages however stayed separate, until they merged in about 1970.

Vogelwaarde is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Hulst, and lies about 29 km southwest of Bergen op Zoom.

Overslag is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 36 km southeast of Vlissingen. The village was first mentioned in 1542 as "ten Overslach", and means place where goods could be transferred. It was located where the canal from Axel and canal from the Belgian Wachtebeke were closed together. It is a border village which is cut in two by the Netherlands-Belgian border. In 1547, the Sassevaart was dug and Overslag become obsolete for the transfer of goods. The parish church is located on the Belgian side. During World War I, it was not possible to completely shut the border and the Wire of Death, a lethal electric fence, ran through the village.Overslag was a separate municipality until 1970, when it was merged with Axel.

Sas van Gent is a town in the Netherlands. It is located in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen and lies about 30 km south of Vlissingen on the border with Belgium. The Ghent–Terneuzen Canal passes through Sas van Gent, and at that point there was a lock in the canal. The name of the village, Sas van Gent, means sluice of Ghent.

Stoppeldijk is a former village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Since 1970, it has been part of the village of Vogelwaarde.Stoppeldijk was a separate municipality until 1936, when it was merged with Boschkapelle.
