Hoek, Zeeland

Philippine is a small city in the province of Zeeland, the Netherlands. It lies about 23 kilometres (14 mi) southeast of Vlissingen. It is located on the border with Belgium, 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) southwest of the city of Terneuzen. It received city rights in 1506.

Zandstraat is a small village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 27 km southeast of Vlissingen. Zandstraat is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Sas van Gent. Zandstraat developed after 1848 when the land was poldered. It consists of about 150 houses. The Catholic Pastor van Erk Church was built in 1949 and decommissioned in 2013.

Sluiskil is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 27 km southeast of Vlissingen. The village was first mentioned in 1839 as Sluiskil, and means "exit canal of the sluice". The village is located on the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal where there used to be a trench to the Axelse Gat. Sluiskil is a canal village which developed along the Ghent-Terneuzen canal. Factories were constructed on the east side in the early 20th century. Between 1960 and 1968, the canal was widened and a part of the west side was demolished. Sluiskil was home to 109 people in 1840.The Catholic St Antonius of Padua Church was built between 1900 and 1901 to replace the monastery church of 1897 which burnt down in 1900. It is a single-aisled church with a ridge turret. It was modernised in 1962. In 2015, the Sluiskiltunnel opened as a replacement of the bridge over the canal. The bridge averaged 23 opening a day and used to cause large traffic jams.

Assenede (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɑsəneːdə] ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Assenede proper, Bassevelde, Boekhoute and Oosteeklo. On 1 January 2021, Assenede had a total population of 14,369. The total area is 87.22 km².

Sas van Gent is a town in the Netherlands. It is located in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen and lies about 30 km south of Vlissingen on the border with Belgium. The Ghent–Terneuzen Canal passes through Sas van Gent, and at that point there was a lock in the canal. The name of the village, Sas van Gent, means sluice of Ghent.

Ellewoutsdijk (Zeeuws: Ellesdiek) is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 18 km east of Vlissingen.

Westdorpe is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 31 km southeast of Vlissingen.

Spui is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 27 km southeast of Vlissingen. The village was first mentioned in 1549 as "ter Zouter Speye", and refers to a type of discharge lock.In 1941, the association building was converted into a Reformed Church. In 1974, it was no longer used, and has been converted in a Masonic lodge.

The Western Scheldt (Dutch: Westerschelde) in the province of Zeeland in the southwestern Netherlands, is the estuary of the Scheldt river. This river once had several estuaries, but the others are now disconnected from the Scheldt, leaving the Westerschelde as its only direct route to the sea. The Western Scheldt is an important shipping route to the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. Unlike the Eastern Scheldt estuary, it could not be closed off from the sea by a dam as part of the Delta Works. Instead, the dykes around it have been heightened and reinforced.Over the years, many ships have sunk in the Western Scheldt. Following an agreement between the Dutch and Belgian governments in 1995, many of the wrecks have been removed to improve shipping access to Antwerp. It was expected that the last 38 wrecks in the shipping channel would be removed during 2003. The largest wreck was the 131-metre (430 ft) long Alan-A-Dale, which was removed in June 2003. The Western Scheldt was freed from German occupation in October and November 1944 by the First Canadian Army during The Battle of the Scheldt. Recently, the Western Scheldt has been exploring the concept of "wisselpolders" or "exchange polders", a sedimentation enhancing strategy, to offset land loss, enhance flood safety and which creates new land. One example is the Perkpolder project.

Driewegen is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 16 km southeast of Middelburg. Until 1970 it was an independent municipality.

Zelzate (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzɛlzaːtə]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality only comprises the town of Zelzate proper. In 2021, Zelzate had a total population of 13,124. The total area is 13.71 km2.Zelzate is divided into two parts by the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal. There is a concrete drawbridge and a tunnel to connect the two sides. Zelzate is known for the nearby polluting industry, which makes it the village with the lowest air quality in the country. Recently ArcelorMittal Ghent (Sidmar) made a major investment which resulted in an emission decrease of 90%.
