Dishoek

Valkenisse is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland, on the peninsula of Walcheren. Valkenisse was created in 1966 in a merger of Biggekerke, Koudekerke and Zoutelande, and existed until 1997, when it was merged into Veere.The municipality was named after the two hamlets Groot-Valkenisse and Klein-Valkenisse.

The Battles of Schooneveld were two naval battles of the Franco-Dutch War, fought off the coast of the Netherlands on 7 June and 14 June 1673 (New Style; 28 May and 4 June in the Julian calendar then in use in England) between an allied Anglo-French fleet commanded by Prince Rupert of the Rhine on his flagship the Royal Charles, and the fleet of the United Provinces, commanded by Michiel de Ruyter. The Dutch victories in the two battles, and at the Battle of the Texel that followed in August, saved their country from an Anglo-French invasion.

Restaurant De Put is a defunct restaurant, located in the cellars of the now demolished Strandhotel in Vlissingen, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in both 1964 and 1965. The restaurant closed in 1974, due to dike reinforcement.Head chef of the restaurant was Willem Vader.

The municipality was formed in a merger of Aagtekerke, Grijpskerke and Meliskerke in 1966, and existed until 1997 when it merged into the municipality of Veere.The municipality was named after the former village of Mariekerke, which is now a hamlet named Klein Mariekerke.

Vlissingen (Dutch: [ˈvlɪsɪŋə(n)] ; Zeelandic: Vlissienge), historically known in English as Flushing, is a municipality and a city in the southwestern Netherlands on the former island of Walcheren. With its strategic location between the Scheldt river and the North Sea, Vlissingen has been an important harbour for centuries. It was granted city rights in 1315. In the 17th century Vlissingen was a main harbour for ships of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It is also known as the birthplace of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter. Vlissingen is mainly noted for the yards on the Scheldt where most of the ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy (Koninklijke Marine) are built.

Zoutelande (Zeelandic: Zóetelande) is a village in the southwestern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Veere, Zeeland, between Dishoek and Westkapelle on the former island Walcheren. On 1 January 2005 it had 1,556 inhabitants. Originally, Zoutelande was mainly an agricultural village. The village's character changed slowly into a tourist resort as the demand for beach recreation rose from about the middle of the 19th century. Zoutelande was a separate municipality until 1966, when it became a part of the new municipality Valkenisse.Nowadays, tourism is Zoutelande's most important source of existence. Zoutelande, together with the beach of Dishoek and Westkapelle, are often called "Zeeland's Rivièra", after the famous south-coast of France. It is one of Zeeland's most-visited coasts, and one of the few places in the Netherlands where the beach faces south. Plenty of rooms, studios, bungalows and apartments are available to thousands of visitors every summer; most of the tourists are of German origin, although other nationalities are also widely represented. The remaining agriculture in the area benefits of the demand for accommodation in the form of mini-campings. Bicycle-rental, beachfront establishments, hotels, B&Bs, shops and a boulevard are all to be found in and around the village. Like Domburg, Zoutelande was a favorite among Dutch painters, like Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig, Piet Mondriaan and Jan Toorop who praised its sky. It is said that the reflection of the sun on the water colors the sky more brilliantly and transparently than anywhere else.Zoutelande was the subject of a 2017 song of the same name by Dutch rock band BLØF featuring Belgian singer Geike Arnaert; the song's popularity brought some increased interest in the village.

Hoogelande is a small hamlet in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located in the municipality of Veere, about 4 km northwest of Middelburg. Hoogelande was a separate municipality until 1816, when it was annexed by Grijpskerke.
