Vlissingen (Dutch: [ˈvlɪsɪŋə(n)] ; Zeelandic: Vlissienge), historically known in English as Flushing, is a municipality and a city in the southwestern Netherlands on the former island of Walcheren. With its strategic location between the Scheldt river and the North Sea, Vlissingen has been an important harbour for centuries. It was granted city rights in 1315. In the 17th century Vlissingen was a main harbour for ships of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It is also known as the birthplace of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter. Vlissingen is mainly noted for the yards on the Scheldt where most of the ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy (Koninklijke Marine) are built.

Restaurant De Put is a defunct restaurant, located in the cellars of the now demolished Strandhotel in Vlissingen, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in both 1964 and 1965. The restaurant closed in 1974, due to dike reinforcement.Head chef of the restaurant was Willem Vader.

Koudekerke (Zeelandic: Koukerke) is a village in the region of Walcheren in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Veere. As of 2018, the census reported the village has a population of 3,419, making it the largest settlement in Veere. The built-up area of the village was 0.55 km², and contained 1,133 residences.

West-Souburg is a neighbourhood of Vlissingen and former village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is part of the municipality of Vlissingen, and has been annexed by the city.The village was first mentioned in 1162 as Sutburch, and used to mean "southern fortified place", because it was the most southern of three defensive structures to defend against the Vikings. West was added later to distinguish from Oost-Souburg. In 1873, the Canal through Walcheren was dug and the town was split into Oost- and West-Souburg.West-Souburg was home to 357 people in 1840. It was an independent municipality until 1835, when it was merged with Oost-Souburg to create the municipality of Oost- en West-Souburg which merged with Vlissingen in 1966. In 2012, place name signs with West-Souburg were returned after much lobbying.

The Battle of Flushing was a naval battle of the Eighty Years' War, fought on April 17, 1573 near the city of Flushing, Netherlands. The Spanish fleet was led by Sancho d'Avila, the Dutch fleet by Lieven Keersmaker. The Dutch fleet initially left Flushing, but returned when the Spanish fleet was hit by the city's cannons. Five Spanish ships were seized, but the remainder managed to reach the cities of Middelburg and Arnemuiden.

Ter Hooge Castle is an 18th-century manor in Middelburg. It includes parts of a medieval castle.

Saint James the Great Church is a large Protestant church in the city of Flushing, Netherlands. The building is on the Old Market (Oude Markt); around are the streets called Branderijstraat and Lepelstraat. The original Roman Catholic church of the city, it has belonged to the Dutch Reformed Church since 1572, which became the Protestant Church in the Netherlands in 2004. The church is pseudo-basilican in style; the aisles are almost as wide as the nave, the three aisles each have their own vault and the nave rises above the aisles, although a clerestory is missing.

Hoogelande is a small hamlet in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located in the municipality of Veere, about 4 km northwest of Middelburg. Hoogelande was a separate municipality until 1816, when it was annexed by Grijpskerke.

Vlissingen Souburg (English: Flushing Souburg) is a railway station located in Oost-Souburg, Netherlands. The station was opened on 31 May 1986 and is located on the Roosendaal–Vlissingen railway. It is the westernmost station in the Netherlands. The train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

Dishoek is a neighbourhood of Koudekerke in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Veere, and lies about 4 km west of Vlissingen. The hamlet of Dishoek near Koudekerke became a seaside resort due to its beaches, and contains holiday homes, campsites and hotels.

Bouches-de-l'Escaut ([buʃ.də.lɛ.sko], "Mouths of the Scheldt"; Dutch: Monden van de Schelde) was a department of the First French Empire in the present-day Netherlands. It was formed in 1810, when the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France. Its territory corresponded with the present-day Dutch province of Zeeland, minus Zeelandic Flanders, which was part of the department of Escaut. Its capital was Middelburg. The department was subdivided into the following arrondissements and cantons (situation in 1812): Middelburg, cantons: Middelburg, Veere and Vlissingen. Goes, cantons: Goes, Heinkenszand, Kortgene and Kruiningen. Zierikzee, cantons: Zierikzee, Brouwershaven and Tholen.Its population in 1812 was 76,820, and its area was 63,000 hectares.After Napoleon was defeated in 1814, the department became part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Oost-Souburg is a town in the municipality of Vlissingen in the province of Zeeland, Netherlands.
