Northern Biskopsgården Church

Biskopsgården is a district (stadsdelsnämndsområde) in Gothenburg Municipality, Sweden.

The Biskopsgården Church (Swedish: Biskopsgårdens kyrka) is a church building in the southern parts of Biskopsgården on the island of Hisingen in Gothenburg, Sweden. Belonging to the Lundby of the Church of Sweden, it was opened in 1961. It was originally called the Southern Biskopsgården Church (Swedish: Södra Biskopsgårdens kyrka) before the Northern Biskopsgården Church was taken out of use in 2004.

Elin Krantz was a Swedish 27-year-old woman who was murdered in the Biskopsgården district of Gothenburg on 26 September 2010. Krantz was murdered by Ephrem Yohannes, a 23-year-old African, in Biskopsgården where her body was found. Yohannes was found guilty of Krantz's murder and received a 16-year prison sentence and deportation on release.

Lundby (pronunciation) is a suburb and borough of Gothenburg, Sweden. It is located in the central part of the Hisingen island, stretching along the northern shore of the Göta River. It is the original home of the dollhouse manufacturing company Lundby and the home of Volvo Trucks and Volvo Penta. There were 38,000 people residing in Lundby on 1 January 2009. One of the few preserved medieval churches in the city of Gothenburg, Lundby Old Church, is located in Lundby.

The Lundby Old Church (Swedish: Lundby gamla kyrka) is a church in Lundby, a borough of Gothenburg, Sweden. It belongs to the parish of Lundby in the Diocese of Gothenburg. It is one of the seven preserved medieval churches in Gothenburg, and the only one of them representing Gothic architecture. It originates from the 14th century, but the bell tower had not been erected until 1634. The church has been renovated many times, most recently in 1998.The coats of arms of the noble families Cronacker, Eketrä, Stålhandske and Ihre can be found in the church. The Stålhandske and Ihre families built their own grave chapels at the southern wall; the Ihre chapel is still preserved today, while the Stålhandske chapel was torn down and the coffins were moved to the family grave in the surrounding churchyard.

Ryaverket is a regional sewage treatment plant in Gothenburg, Sweden. The plant is located in southern Hisingen and treats wastewater from 797,485 people in the Gothenburg region (2020). The facility is owned by Gryaab, a municipal company owned by the municipalities whose wastewater is treated at Ryaverket. The owner municipalities are Gothenburg, Ale, Härryda, Mölndal, Kungälv, Partille, Bollebygd and Lerum. Ryaverket is the home of the world's longest mural, on 696 square meters, by Pontus Andersson.

Färjenäsparken is a park located on the north bank of the Göta älv, Sweden. It consists of grilling places, a driving range, a ground for beach volleyball, mini golf, a cafe with a lunch restaurant, and other attractions. Färjenäs is where Karl IX founded Gothenburg in 1603. In 1611 the city was burned down by the Danes.

The Eriksberg Crane (Swedish: Eriksbergskranen) is a full gantry crane in the Eriksberg district of Gothenburg, part of the former Eriksberg shipyard. It is a listed building, and is considered to be one of the city's main landmarks and an important relic of its industrial and maritime heritage. The company Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstad was founded in the Eriksberg district of Gothenburg in 1876, and initially specialised in manufacturing iron and steel parts, but later switched its focus to shipbuilding and built up a sizeable shipyard on the north bank of the Göta Älv, on the island of Hisingen.The main structure of the crane was fashioned in eight sections by NOHAB in Trollhättan in 1968, and was transported by barge down the Göta Älv to Gothenburg. The crane was assembled and erected at one of the dry docks in the Eriksberg shipyard in 1969. The lifting gear was manufactured by Pohlig-Heckel-Bleichert (PHB) in Cologne. However, in the event the new gantry crane only saw a decade of use. Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstad was bought out by the Swedish state in 1975, becoming part of the nationalised Svenska Varv, and production at the Gothenburg shipyard was wound down in 1978–1979, with the yard's final vessel, the M/T Atland, being delivered on 15 June 1979.From 1993 the crane has been used for bungee jumping, and at 84 metres in height, it is Sweden's highest bungee-jumping location.It was recognised as a listed building in 2012.Although no longer operational, the Eriksberg Crane is the only remaining full gantry crane in Sweden. There were once similar cranes at shipyards in Uddevalla and Malmö, but the former was scrapped in 1986 and the latter (the so-called Kockums Crane) was sold to Hyundai Heavy Industries in 2002, for the nominal sum of $1 (USD), and transported to Ulsan in South Korea.

The Rya Forest (Swedish: Rya skog) is a nature reserve in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is located on the Hisingen island, on the northern bank of the Göta River. It has an area of 17 hectares. Established in 1928, it is the oldest nature reserve in Västra Götaland County.The reserve lies in the middle of a busy industrial area, close to oil refineries and the Ryaverket sewage treatment plan. In spite of that, it displays a diverse flora and fauna, typical for a marsh forest, alder being the most common tree. The age of the trees reaches 200 years, while some of the oaks are a few centuries old. Many species of lichens, mosses and fungi have been found. In the spring, the meadows in the reserve are covered with blooming wood anemones. The forest houses rare insects, butterflies and beetles. With its many birds, such as the hawfinch, the tawny owl, and the Eurasian woodcock, it has also attracted the interest of ornithologists.

Eriksberg is an area on Hisingen in Gothenburg where Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB had their shipyard until bankruptcy in 1979. For over a century the area was dominated by shipbuilding but a crisis in the 1970s destroyed the industry. Since the collapse of the shipyards, the area has been rebuilt into a modern neighbourhood. The former machinery buildings have been renovated into a hotel with conference facilities. An 84-metre high gantry crane – the Eriksberg crane – stands as a remnant of the area's shipbuilding past. A large grass area, now used for apartment buildings, was used for concerts from 1987 to 1990 (when Ullevi was closed for such concerts). Michael Jackson performed in front of 106,000 people for 2 sold-out shows during his Bad World Tour in June 1988. U2 and David Bowie performed in 1987, and the Rolling Stones and Madonna in 1990. In 2014, the progressive metal band Evergrey from Gothenburg filmed a music video for the song "King Of Errors" from their album Hymns for the Broken atop the Eriksberg gantry crane.

The Älvsborg Bridge (Swedish: Älvsborgsbron) is a suspension bridge over Göta älv in Gothenburg, Sweden, connecting the island of Hisingen with the mainland. It was designed by Sven Olof Asplund, and inaugurated on 8 November 1966 by Swedish communication minister Olof Palme. The total length of the bridge is 933 metres and the distance between the pylons ("main span") is 417 metres, while the clearance below the deck is 45 metres. Said pylons are 107 metres tall, making the bridge one of Gothenburg's most prominent landmarks. It takes its name from the mediaeval castle of Old Älvsborg, the ruins of which are located just a couple of hundred metres along the riverbank from the southern pylon. The bridge was painted green for the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, which Gothenburg hosted. Work started in 1993 and used about 36,000 litres of paint. The bridge acted as the finish line for the 2005–06 Volvo Ocean Race.

The Göta älv (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈjø̌ːta ˈɛlv]; "River of (the) Geats") is a river that drains lake Vänern into the Kattegat, at the city of Gothenburg, on the western coast of Sweden. It was formed at the end of the last glaciation, as an outflow channel from the Baltic Ice Lake to the Atlantic Ocean and nowadays it has the largest drainage basin in Scandinavia. The Göta älv is located in Götaland, with the river itself being a site of early Geatish settlement. Its length is 93 km (58 mi). The Bohus Fortress is located by the river at Kungälv. There the river splits into two, with the northern part being the Nordre älv and the southern part keeping the name Göta älv; the two arms of the river enclose the island of Hisingen. At Trollhättan there is a dam, canal locks and a hydropower station in the river. The locks make the river navigable, even for large cargo vessels (88 m [289 ft] long). The artificial parts are called Trollhätte Canal. The river and the canal is part of a mostly inland waterway, Göta Canal, which spans the width of Sweden to the Baltic Sea south of Stockholm. The power station supplied electric power to the heavy steel industry concentrated around Trollhättan Falls, contributing to its industrial revolution. In the summer months the spillway of the dam is opened for a few minutes daily and tourists gather to see the water rushing down the river (picture). There are concerns about whether the maximum permitted discharge of 1,000 m3/s (35,000 cu ft/s) is enough in a scenario where heavy rain floods the lake Vänern, causing considerable damage. Previously this was thought not to be possible in reality, but in 2001 the lake was flooded almost 1 m (3 ft) above maximum level (and some upstream lakes like Glafsfjorden flooded 3 m [10 ft]). In this situation, Göta älv was allowed a discharge of 1,100 m3/s (39,000 cu ft/s) for months causing a big risk of landslides. Now a water tunnel between Vänersborg and Uddevalla is considered as a rescue solution. There is a large risk of landslides along the river and historical records of 15 landslides exist. The largest occurred in the years 1150, 1648, 1950, 1957 and 1977 (Tuve landslide).
