Tenafly Nature Center

Tenafly () is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 census the borough had a population of 15,409, an increase of 6.4% over the 14,488 counted in the 2010 census. (The 2010 population had reflected an increase of 682 (+4.9%) from the 13,806 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 480 (+3.6%) from the 13,326 counted in the 1990 Census.) Tenafly is a suburb of New York City. The first European settlers in Tenafly were Dutch immigrants, who began to populate the area during the late 17th century. The name "Tenafly" is derived from the early-modern Dutch phrase "Tiene Vly" or "Ten Swamps" which was given by Dutch settlers in 1688. Other derivations cite a Dutch-language connection to its location on a meadow.The borough has been one of the state's highest-income communities. Based on data from the American Community Survey for 2013–2017, Tenafly residents had a median household income of $153,381, ranked 13th in the state among municipalities with more than 10,000 residents, more than double the statewide median of $76,475.Tenafly was incorporated as a borough on January 24, 1894, by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of the now-defunct Palisades Township, based on the results of a referendum held the previous day. The borough was the first formed during the "Boroughitis" phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County, in which 26 boroughs were formed in the county in 1894 alone. Portions of Palisades Township were acquired based on legislation approved on April 8, 1897.

The Elizabeth Cady Stanton House in Tenafly, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, is where Elizabeth Cady Stanton lived from 1868 to 1887, her most active years as a women's rights activist. She had previously lived in Seneca Falls, New York and Boston, Massachusetts.

The Peter Huyler House is located on what is known as the Captain John Huyler Homestead at 50 County Road between Palisades Avenue and Crest Drive North in Cresskill, Bergen County, New Jersey. In 1776, the property was part of a 180-acre (73 ha) farm which belonged to Loyalist John Ackerson or Eckerson. It was confiscated in 1779 because of Ackerson's loyalty to the British, and sold in 1784 to Captain John Huyler of the local militia. Huyler's son Peter built the main wing of the current house in 1836, according to the date stone over the door, with what was described by the Bergen County Stone House Survey as "some of the finest stonework in Bergen County". The outbuilding was most probably a summer kitchen, with quarters for slaves.Records show that by 1876, the site was owned by George Huyler, and in 1912 by his estate.The house was added to the New Jersey Register of Historic Places in 1980, and to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Academy of the Holy Angels is an all-female private middle school and college preparatory high school located in Demarest, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in sixth through twelfth grade. The school is a sponsored work of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The Academy of the Holy Angels draws students from North Jersey, Rockland County, New York, and surrounding areas. As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 493 students and 43 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.5:1. The school's student body was 52.7% (260) White, 18.7% (92) Asian, 18.7% (92) Hispanic, 5.7% (28) two or more races, 4.1% (20) Black and 0.2% (1) American Indian/ Alaska Native.The Academy of the Holy Angels is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association and the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools.

Tenafly is a former railroad station located in Tenafly, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The station was a stop along Erie Railroad's suburban Northern Branch (NRRNJ) which terminated at Pavonia Terminal on the Hudson River. It stopped being used for passenger rail transport in 1966, by which time trains had been redirected to Hoboken Terminal. The rail line is still used for freight transport by CSX. The Northern Branch Corridor Project is a proposed New Jersey Transit project to extend the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail along the line, restoring service to the landmark and other stations along the route. In a non-binding referendum in January 2011, citizens of Tenafly rejected the idea of the town being the northern terminus of the project. The station was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 25, 1979. The station building currently houses a restaurant.

Cresskill is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 8,573, reflecting an increase of 827 (+10.7%) from the 7,746 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 188 (+2.5%) from the 7,558 counted in the 1990 Census. This town got its name from "Cress", referring to the watercress which grew in its streams, and "Kill", referring to the stream passing through.

The Tenafly Public Schools is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Tenafly, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2017-18 school year, the district and its six schools had an enrollment of 3,732 students and 303.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.3:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Students from Alpine attend Tenafly High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship.

The Benjamin P. Westervelt House, located at 253 County Road in Cresskill, Bergen County, New Jersey, was the home of Benjamin P. Westervelt, a member of the local militia during the American Revolutionary War. The main wing of the Dutch Colonial-style house was built by Westervelt in 1808, but the Westervelt family has continuously occupied the site since at least 1778. The house, which has been used as a background in several films, was listed on New Jersey Register of Historic Places in 1980, and the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Tenafly High School is a four-year comprehensive community public high school in Tenafly in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades as the lone secondary school of the Tenafly Public Schools. Students from the neighboring community of Alpine attend the school as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Alpine Public School.As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,231 students and 104.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.8:1. There were 12 students (1.0% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 8 (0.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Theodore Roosevelt Monument is located in Tenafly, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The monument was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 20, 2006.

The John R. Demarest House is located at 35 County Road in the borough of Demarest in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The historic stone house was built around 1775 to 1800 based on architectural evidence. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 9, 1983, for its significance in architecture. It was listed as part of the Early Stone Houses of Bergen County Multiple Property Submission (MPS). According to the nomination form, the house was probably built by Roelef Demarest. His son John R. Demarest lived here with his with Margaret Cole. He operated a nearby woolen mill.

Westervelt House is located in Tenafly, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The south wing of the house was built in 1745 by Roelof Westervelt whose grandfather purchased the property in 1695. The central section of the house was added in 1798 and later in 1825 the north wing was added. Ownership of the house remained in the hands of the Westervelt family until 1923. It serves as the oldest standing building in Tenafly. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 15, 1983.
