Ince-in-Makerfield Town Hall, also known as Ince-in-Makerfield Council Offices, is a municipal building in Ince Green Lane, Ince-in-Makerfield, Greater Manchester, England. The building is currently used as a children's nursery.

The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Empress Mill, Ince was a single storey shed mill alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, spinning cotton in Ince, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It was acquired by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in 1930, and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. Production ceased in 1975. It was the last mill in Ince to close, despite the intervention of Member of Parliament Michael McGuire, and a debate in the House of Commons on 20 March 1975.

The Metropolitan Borough of Wigan is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester, in North West England. It is named after the main settlement of Wigan. It covers the towns of Atherton, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Golborne, Hindley, Ince-in-Makerfield, Leigh and Tyldesley. The borough also covers the villages and suburbs of Abram, Aspull, Astley, Bryn, Hindley Green, Lowton, Mosley Common, Orrell, Pemberton, Shevington, Standish, Winstanley and Worsley Mesnes. The borough was formed in 1974, replacing several former local government districts. It is the furthest west part of Greater Manchester, and it is bordered by the Greater Manchester boroughs of City of Salford and Bolton to the east, the Cheshire borough of Warrington to the south, the Merseyside borough of St Helens to the south west, and the Lancashire boroughs of West Lancashire to the west and Chorley to the north.

Dean Trust Rose Bridge (formerly Rose Bridge Academy) is a mixed secondary school located in the Ince-in-Makerfield area of Wigan in the English county of Greater Manchester.Formerly a community school administered by Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council, in April 2015 Rose Bridge High School was converted to academy status and was renamed Rose Bridge Academy. The school was managed by Community First Academy Trust, but continued to coordinate with Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council for admissions. Following failings in raising attainment in the school following the takeover by Community First Academy Trust (CFAT) the trust agreed to work with The Dean Trust — a local trust with a reputation of improving standards in similarly failing schools. The Dean Trust later took over as sole trust of the school in September 2018. As of February 2019, the school was renamed as Dean Trust Rose Bridge — labelled as a 'rapidly improving' school in a November 2018 report, after being placed into 'Special Measures' in a January 2018 report. Dean Trust Rose Bridge offers GCSEs, BTECs and the DiDA as programmes of study for pupils. The school also has a specialism in science.

It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Wigan, the archdeaconry of Warrington and the diocese of Liverpool. Its benefice is united with that of Christ Church, Ince-in-Makerfield. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. It was a Commissioners' church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission.

Wigan Springs Branch TMD is a traction maintenance depot located in Ince in Makerfield, Greater Manchester, England. The depot is situated on the West Coast Main Line and is about 2 km (1.2 mi) south of Wigan North Western station. Springs Branch depot was rebuilt and reopened on 7 February 2020.The depot code is SP. From March 1958 until the introduction of TOPS in May 1973, it was 8F.

Whelley is an area of northeast Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it is mainly a residential area, between New Springs and Scholes. In Whelley, there is Canon Sharples Church of England Primary School and Nursery, St Stephen's Church and a Labour club. Whelley also had its own (non-acute) hospital which specialised in rehabilitation of the elderly, and was part of the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust. The hospital closed in 2009 and was demolished in late 2010. The site is currently being developed with numerous houses, flats and bungalows. In terms of local elections, Whelley is grouped with New Springs and Aspull, and is consistently a Labour supporting area, as with the majority of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.

Ince-in-Makerfield or Ince is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England. The population of the Ince ward at the 2011 census was 13,486, but a southern part of Ince was also listed under the Abram ward (north of Warrington Road in this ward). Adding on this area brings the total in 2011 to 15,664. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, Ince is contiguous to Wigan and is a residential suburb. Divided by a railway line into two separate areas - Higher Ince and Lower Ince, from 1894 Ince was an urban district of the administrative county of Lancashire and in 1974 became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.

Platt Bridge in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England, is a residential area to the south of Ince-in-Makerfield and North of Abram. After many pub closures the one that is left is "Kesses". It has a long-established traditional barber shop "The Barber Shop or Mike's" opposite the Community Centre, Walthew Lane. There are a few main shops such as the famous "Shergills" although this shop has changed hands a few times it is still known as this, a Co-Op, an Iceland Foods, and a car wash. The Post Office has Handymans Store next door once owned by "John Roberts" who is now deceased, but it is run by his sons still. there is now a precinct with a few more shops such as Galloway bakery, one stop shop a chippy and a betting office. McDonalds is also in Platt Bridge on Liverpool road. Many famous characters/legends have come from this area of Wigan and even a few athletes and musicians.

Scholes is an urban area in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. Scholes is immediately to the east of Wigan's town centre; separated from the commercial area by the River Douglas. Historically a part of Lancashire, Scholes is noted for its council estate and series of tower blocks, which are prominent features in this area of the town. North West England has several places called Scholes. Some, like Scholes in Wigan, are simply areas within towns, however, some are actual villages in their own right which are totally stand-alone.Scholes was once a ward of Wigan, east of the town centre. As described in the Victoria Histories of the Counties of England, Lancashire (VCH Lancs, Vol. 4), the district formerly had four wards: St George and St Patrick, the innermost divided by a street called Scholes, and Lindsay and St Catherine's outside. It is now contained in the Wigan Central ward. The Church of St Catherine was consecrated in 1841 and has a small graveyard attached. In October 1864 representatives of James Horrocks of Spennymoor, claiming to be the heir of Robert Ford who died in 1772, took possession of the ‘Manor House' in Scholes and were besieged for some days, to the excitement of the town.
