The McAllen Texas Temple is temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints under construction in McAllen, Texas. The intent to construct the temple was announced on October 5, 2019 by church president Russell M. Nelson in the Women's Session of the church's general conference. The announcement also included the Freetown Sierra Leone; Orem Utah; Port Moresby Papua New Guinea; Bentonville Arkansas; Bacolod Philippines; Cóban, Guatemala; and Taylorsville Utah temples.On December 11, 2019, the church announced that the temple will be built on a 10.6-acre site located on the northwest corner of Second Street and West Trenton Road in McAllen. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 25,000 square feet, with a center spire. The temple is being built on 11 acres and stands 107 feet high.A groundbreaking ceremony, to signify beginning of construction was held on November 21, 2020, with Art Rascon, an area seventy, presiding.

The Rio Grande Bible College (RGBI) is a Christian bible college in Edinburg, Texas. It is associated with the Rio Grande Bible Ministries. The college serves as a bible college for students from Mexico, Central America, and South America and it also provides Spanish language training for non-Spanish-speaking North Americans who will serve as missionaries in Spanish-speaking areas of the world.

The Bert Ogden Arena is an indoor arena in Edinburg, Texas, United States. The arena officially opened in August 2018 and currently houses the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets. The arena seats nearly 7,700, which can be expanded up to a maximum capacity of 9,000 for concerts.

South Texas Preparatory Academy, also known as 'STPA', is part of the South Texas Independent School District, in Edinburg, Texas, United States. STPA is a tuition-free magnet junior high school for students in a three-county area along the Texas-Mexico border (Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron). The school was founded in 2008 as South Texas Preparatory Academy. It previously shared the name South Texas BETA with its neighboring South Texas Business Education & Technology Academy from 2003–2008, and before that it was named the Teacher Academy of South Texas. In 2008 the South Texas ISD School Board decided to split up the Jr. High and High School, which are now independently their own name, STPA and BETA, respectively. STPA serves 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, after leaving STPA, students choose to go to one of four high schools in the STISD district; South Texas ISD World Scholars, The Science Academy of South Texas, South Texas High School for Health Professions, and South Texas ISD Medical Professions. It has also been recognized as a blue ribbon school in the 2015–2016 academic school year.

South Texas ISD World Scholars is one of STISD's four magnet high schools serving students in grades 9-12 from Cameron, Hidalgo & Willacy Counties, and is located in Edinburg, Texas. World Scholars is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program campus, with over 50 courses to choose from. Students are not only eligible to graduate with an international diploma, but also eligible for free college/university credit opportunities + an associates degree.

Robert Vela High School (RVHS) is a public high school in the district of Edinburg, Texas (United States). It is named after a former coach from Edinburg High, the late Roberto Vela. The school was established in 2012 and is located on Canton Road in Edinburg. Their mascot is the Mighty SaberCat with the colors of blue, black, and silver. It was formerly Edinburg High School, home to The Bobcats before it changed and became Robert Vela High School. Students enrolled in Robert Vela High School have made numerous accounts on Instagram, one of the most popular being The rvhs.sleeping.page, as part of a trend from TikTok. Such accounts vary though many have been hacked from spam accounts promoting Bitcoin. In addition to sections of Edinburg, a small portion of Lopezville is zoned to RVHS.

The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) is a museum located in McAllen, Texas. It is dedicated to exhibiting Latin American art, as well as educating visitors about science. Its exhibits include antique stained glass, images from the Hubble Space Telescope, and the Discovery Pavilion, an educational children's exhibit. The museum also features a sculpture garden and a science playground. The museum's art collections include European art from the 16th to 19th centuries, Japanese prints, Modern art and folk art. The International Museum of Art & Science is a Smithsonian Affiliate and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

Lopezville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 4,333 at the 2010 United States Census. It is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town developed during the early 1960s as a trailer park. It is named for Francisco Solano López, a former president of Paraguay, a descendant of whom founded his namesake trailer park.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is a public research university with multiple campus throughout the Rio Grande Valley region of Texas. It is the southernmost member of the University of Texas System. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 after the consolidation of the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College and the University of Texas–Pan American.In the fall of 2019 the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley enrolled 29,619 students, making it the ninth-largest university in the state of Texas and the fourth largest (student enrollment) academic institution in the University of Texas system. In 2018, UTRGV was also one of the largest universities in the U.S. to have a majority Hispanic student population; 89.2% of its students are Hispanic, virtually all of them Mexican Americans.It is classified in 2020 among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".

The University of Texas–Pan American (UTPA) was a public university in Edinburg, Texas. Founded in 1927, it was a component institution of the University of Texas System. The university served the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas with baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees. The Carnegie Foundation classified UTPA as a "doctoral research university". From the institution's founding until it was merged into the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), it grew from 200 students to over 20,000, making UTPA the 10th-largest university in Texas. The majority of these students were natives of the Rio Grande Valley. UTPA also operated an Upper Level Studies Center in Rio Grande City, Starr County, Texas. On August 15, 2014, Dr. Havidan Rodriguez was appointed interim President of UTPA, the institution's final leader. In 2015, UTRGV entered into operation following the merger of UTPA and UT–Brownsville, founded as an extension of then-Pan American University at Texas Southmost College. UTRGV also created a new medical school.On August 31, 2015, UTPA formally ceased operations to yield to the newly formed university, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine is a public medical school of University of Texas Rio Grande Valley located in Edinburg, Texas. It is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The UTRGV School of Medicine was established by the Texas Legislature in May 2013. The medical school enrolled its first class of 50 first-year medical students in the fall of 2016.
