De Wielewaal, Beneden-Leeuwen

Beneden-Leeuwen is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Maas en Waal, and lies about 7 km east of Tiel, on the opposite (southern) bank of the river Waal. Beneden-Leeuwen has 6,925 inhabitants on 1 July 2021. It is the Catholic part of the former village Leeuwen.

West Maas en Waal (Dutch pronunciation: [ʋɛst ˈmaːs ɛn ˈʋaːl] (listen)) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The municipality covers the western part of the Land van Maas en Waal, an island located between the Meuse and Waal rivers.

The Waal (Dutch name, pronounced [ʋaːl]) is the main distributary branch of the river Rhine flowing approximately 80 km (50 mi) through the Netherlands. It is the major waterway connecting the port of Rotterdam to Germany. Before it reaches Rotterdam, it joins with the Afgedamde Maas near Woudrichem to form the Boven Merwede. Along its length, Nijmegen, Tiel, Zaltbommel and Gorinchem are towns of importance with direct access to the river. The river, which is the main channel in the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta system, carries 65% of the total flow of the Rhine.

Leeuwen is a former municipality consisting two villages of Beneden-Leeuwen and Boven-Leeuwen, now in the municipality of West Maas en Waal, in the Dutch province of Gelderland . Leeuwen was a separate municipality until 1818, when it was merged with Wamel.

IJzendoorn is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Neder-Betuwe, and lies about 8 km east of Tiel. IJzendoorn was a separate municipality between 1818 and 1923, when it was merged with Echteld.

Echteld is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Neder-Betuwe, and lies about 6 km east of Tiel. Echteld was a separate municipality between 1818 and 2002, when it was merged with Kesteren. Before 1818, the municipality was called Ochten, after a neighbouring village.

Boven-Leeuwen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Maas en Waal, and lies about 9 km east of Tiel. It is the protestant part of the former village of Leeuwen.

Wamel is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is part of the municipality of West Maas en Waal, and lies about 3 km east of Tiel. Wamel was a separate municipality until 1984, when it merged with Appeltern and Dreumel. The new municipality was first called "Wamel", but the name changed to "West Maas en Waal" in 1985. The village developed into an elongated settlement. The Dutch Reformed Church dates from 1572 and is a replacement of demolished earlier church. Between 1878 to 1879, a Roman Catholic church was built. It was destroyed in 1944, and rebuilt between 1952 and 1954. In 1840, it was home to 1,453 people.

Hoogmeien is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Buren, and lies about 8 km northeast of Tiel.It was first mentioned around 1400 as "Homeden en Nedermeden", and means high hay land. It is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Lienden. It consists of about 25 houses.

The Oijen Ferry is a cable ferry across the river Meuse in the Netherlands. The ferry crosses from the village of Oijen in North Brabant, to a point near Alphen in Gelderland. The crossing is located some 24 kilometres (15 mi) north-east of 's-Hertogenbosch.

Meertenwei is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Buren, and lies about 9 km northeast of Tiel.Meertenwei is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Lienden. The hamlet is located on a dead-end side street of the N320, and consists of about 10 houses.

Meerten is a neighbourhood of Lienden and was a hamlet in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Buren, and lies about 9 km northeast of Tiel.It was first mentioned in 1145 as Gerardus de Marten. The etymology is unknown. It was annexed by neighbouring Lienden who built an industrial terrain near the hamlet. In 2008, construction began on the new residential neighbourhood Nieuw-Meerten.
