The Proclamation of the Republic (Portuguese: Proclamação da República) was a military coup d'état that established the First Brazilian Republic on 15 November 1889. It overthrew the constitutional monarchy of the Empire of Brazil and ended the reign of Emperor Pedro II. The coup took place in Rio de Janeiro, then the capital of the Empire, when a group of military officers of the Imperial Army, led by Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca, staged a coup d'état without the use of violence, deposing Emperor Pedro II and the President of the Council of Ministers of the Empire, the Viscount of Ouro Preto. A provisional government was established that same day, 15 November, with Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca as President of the Republic and head of the interim Government.

The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Faculty of Law (Portuguese: Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)), also known as the National Faculty of Law (Portuguese: Faculdade Nacional de Direito), is a law school located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Founded in 1920 through the merger of two private law schools dating from the 1880s, it is the third oldest law school in Brazil, after the University of São Paulo Faculty of Law and the Federal University of Pernambuco Faculty of Law, both founded in 1827. It is also the largest public law school in Brazil, with an enrollment of around three thousand students. Its alumni include some of the most distinguished legal scholars and public officials of Brazil, and members of the Supreme Court like Lafayette de Andrada (1945–1969), Assunção Galotti (1949–1974), Nélson Hungria (1951–1961), Nunes Leal (1960–1969), Cordeiro Guerra (1974–1986), Moreira Alves (1975–2003), and Marco Aurélio Mello (1990–present). The Faculty is located in the palace once dedicated to the Count of Arcos, in which the Brazilian Senate met from 1826 to 1924.

The National Archives of Brazil (Portuguese: Arquivo Nacional, AN) were created in 1838 as the Imperial Public Archives. The Archives were renamed in 1911, and are located in Rio de Janeiro. The National Archives of Brazil is the Brazilian institution responsible for the management, preservation and dissemination of federal government documents. Since 2011, it is subordinated to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The AN has the following responsibilities, according to the Decree No. 9,360 of May 7, 2018, which grants it as the main body of Archival Documents Management System (in Portuguese: Sistema de Gestão de Documentos de Arquivo – SIGA) of the federal government: "to guide the main organizations and entities of the federal Executive Power in the implementation of document management programs; oversee the application of procedures and technical operations related to the production, registration, classification, control of the processing, use and evaluation of documents, to modernize government archival services; promote the collection of permanent guard documents for technical treatment, preservation and dissemination, to guarantee full access to information, in support of governmental decisions of a political–administrative nature and to the citizen in the defense of their rights, aiming to encourage the production of scientific and cultural knowledge; and supervise and apply the national policy archives, established by the National Council of Archives (Conselho Nacional de Arquivo – CONARQ)".The National Archives of Brazil thus fulfills a double and essential function for the Brazilian State and society – both in the management of archival documents that are produced in all federal institutions and in safeguarding and giving access to fundamental fonds for history.

The Itamaraty Palace (Portuguese: Palácio do Itamaraty) is a 19th-century building of great historical and artistic value located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.The palace was a noble residence, the seat of the Republican Government (1889-1898) and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1899-1970). It currently serves as the headquarters of the MRE's Representative Office in Rio de Janeiro, of the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation's Center for History and Diplomatic Documentation and of the Historical and Diplomatic Museum, as well as holding the collections of the Historical Archive and the Map Library.

Central do Brasil (Portuguese pronunciation: [sẽˈtɾaw du bɾaˈziw]) is a major train station in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It is the last stop of Rio's railway network, as well as a hub for connection with the city subway and a bus station. Central do Brasil was also a preeminent stop in the interstate Central do Brasil railroad, which linked Rio de Janeiro with São Paulo and Minas Gerais, though the railroad is now deactivated. The station is located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, along the Avenida Presidente Vargas and across from the Campo de Santana park. It was built in Art deco style.

The equestrian statue of Pedro I is located in Tiradentes Square, in the city center of Rio de Janeiro, in the homonymous state, Brazil. It is a national historical heritage, listed by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), since 4 March 1999. It is also a Rio de Janeiro state cultural heritage, registered by the Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Cultural (INEPAC), since 26 September 1978.

Teatro Carlos Gomes is a theatre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was established in 1868 in the Hotel Richelieu.Teatro Carlos Gomes is a theater located in Praça Tiradentes, in the center of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is one of the most traditional theaters in the country. Its primitive facilities were inaugurated in 1872, when it was called Theater Franc-Brésiliene, later denominated like Theater Santana and, finally, with the current denomination. Throughout its history, these facilities were devastated by three large fires. Currently has a capacity for an audience of 760 people, highlighting the three foyers in Art Deco style - one below the entrance, another up and third in the galleries - with floor in pads and stairs in marble. The theatre has ten dressing rooms (five singles), distributed on four floors. The name of the theater is a tribute to the composer Antônio Carlos Gomes.

Solar do Marquês do Lavradio is an 18th-century palace located in Rio de Janeiro, Central Zone, Lapa, Rua do Lavradio, nº 84. In 1967 the historic building was assigned to the Sociedade Brasileira de Belas Artes SBBA (Brazilian Society of Fine Arts).

The João Caetano Theater (Portuguese: Teatro João Caetano) is located in Tiradentes Square, in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It offers 1,139 seats, including 605 in the audience, 117 in the noble balcony and 417 in the simple balcony. It is the oldest playhouse in the city.

The Royal Portuguese Cabinet of Reading (Portuguese: Real Gabinete Português de Leitura) is a library and lusophone cultural institution, is located in Luís de Camões Street, number 30, in the center of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is listed by the State Institute of Cultural Heritage. Elected the fourth most beautiful library in the world by Time magazine, the Cabinet has the largest collection of Portuguese literature outside Portugal.

The Valongo Observatory (Observatório do Valongo) is the astronomical observatory of the UFRJ. It is located on the top of the Conceição Hill, an old settlement in the downtown of Rio de Janeiro dating from the first centuries of the colonization of the city. The observatory hosts the Astronomy Undergraduation Course and the Astronomy Graduate School of this university.

The Ventura Corporate Towers is an office building in the Centro neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, fronting the avenue between Chile and Lavradio, the street in front of the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral. It was built by Camargo Correa in partnership with Tishman Speyer, who together invested 500,000,000 reais. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, the building has achieved LEED certification, by presenting streamlined and intelligent use of water. Moreover, the special glass provides natural lighting and is not so warm inside the building, reducing expenses with chilled air and light. Together with the Ventura Corporate Tower II, the venture will strengthen the corridor's commercial avenues in Chile, formed by the BNDES, Petrobras, and Caixa Economica Federal.
