Newton Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 50 contributing buildings and 5 contributing objects in the central business district of Newton. Notable buildings include the First National Bank of Catawba County (c. 1923), H&W Drug Company (c. 1898, c. 1938), Belk-Brumley Department Store (c. 1920, c. 1940), Alman Furniture Company Building (c. 1950), Catawba County Courthouse (1924), Ervin Apartments (1936), Sanitary Grocery (c. 1905), Freeze Drug Store (c. 1906), Catawba County Library (1954), Haupt Building (c. 1955), City Hall and Fire Station (c. 1925), and Eagle Building (c. 1920).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Grace Reformed Church, also known as Calvary Baptist Church (since 1959), is a historic church located at 201–211 S. Main Avenue in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina, United States. It was built in 1887–1888, and is a Gothic Revival-style church building. It has a cruciform plan, steeply pitched gable roof, corner towers of unequal height, and lancet arched doors and windows. Attached to the church in 1927–1928, is a two-story Sunday School Building with a gable roof.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Self–Trott–Bickett House is a historic home located at Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. It was built between 1881 and 1883, and is a two-story brick, double pile house with a rear ell and Italianate and Classical Revival style design elements. It has a low hipped roof, exterior end chimneys, and a wraparound porch. It was the home of Lawrence Bickett, a grocery wholesaler and brother of North Carolina governor Thomas Walter Bickett.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Discovery High School is part of Newton-Conover City Schools and is one of the two high schools in the district, alongside Newton-Conover High School. Founded in 2005, it was created through a partnership grant with the North Carolina New Schools Project and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As of 2021, The school has 211 students on roll in grades 9–12.

Foil–Cline House, also known as the John A. Foil House, is a historic home located at Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. It was built in 1883, and is a two-story, L-shaped, Italianate style frame dwelling. It features a multi-gabled roof has a widely overhanging boxed and molded cornice supported by thick curvilinear brackets and porch with overhanging bracketed eaves.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The district encompasses 86 contributing buildings in a primarily residential neighborhood of Newton. Most of the buildings date from the late-19th an early-20th century and includes notable examples of Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include the Junius R. Gaither House (c. 1936), First Presbyterian Church (1878), Eli M. Deal House (1904), Wade C. Raymer House (1923), William W. Trott House (c. 1897), Dr. Glenn Long House (c. 1910, 1935), Hewitt-McCorkle House (1920), Andrew J. Seagle House (c. 1861), Walter C. Feimster House (1908), Robert B. Knox House (1912), (Former) Newton High School (1905, 1935), Henkel-Williams-White House (c. 1883), Loomis F. Klutz House (c. 1927), (former) Newton Elementary School (1923, 1930), and Beth Eden Lutheran Church (1929).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The McCorkle House (c. 1890) reflects the popular Queen Anne style, while the Long (c. 1902–1910) and Murray (c. 1920) houses represent variations of the Bungalow style. The Long House property includes a contributing garage, servant's house, and landscape design.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

St. Paul's Church and Cemetery also known as Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church or St. Paul's Lutheran Church is a church in Newton, North Carolina. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 as a Historic Place in Catawba County, North Carolina.St. Paul's Church, Newton is a two-story log weatherboarded church built in 1818. It features a Federal style interior with carved sounding board and moldings and a separate, now repurposed, slave balcony. The building is one of the oldest existing churches in North Carolina west of the Catawba River. The graveyard headstones date to the late 18th century. The St. Paul's Reformed Church at Startown formed from this congregation in 1904.
