Bar Beach, Lagos

Kuramo Beach is a sandy beach in Lagos, Nigeria, located at the south side of Victoria Island, just east of Bar Beach and south of the Kuramo Waters lagoon. It was the location of numerous illegal shanties and cabins, some of them being used for music entertainment, bars and prostitution. In August 2012, a surge of the Atlantic Ocean hit Kuramo Beach, destroying some of these shacks and killing 16 people. The next day government authorities evacuated the area, demolished the remaining shacks and began to refill the sand.The ocean surge is said to occur every August at the beach, though in former years no lives were lost.

The Remembrance Arcade located at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, is a cenotaph site used to commemorate Nigerian soldiers who died in World War I, World War II and the Nigerian Civil War. It is located within the Tafawa Balewa Square in the Lagos Central Business District. The Armed Forces Remembrance celebrations are performed yearly at this site. At the entrance of the site, a statue of an unknown soldier with a gun can be seen facing the entrance. The green space is laid out with grasses, pavements, and the cenotaph.

On the night of 20 October 2020, at about 6:50 p.m., members of the Nigerian Army opened fire on unarmed End SARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State, Nigeria. Amnesty International stated that at least 12 protesters were killed during the shooting. A day after the incident, on 21 October, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, initially denied reports of any loss of lives, but later admitted in an interview with a CNN journalist that "only two persons were killed".The Nigerian Army initially denied involvement in the shooting, but later stated that it had deployed soldiers to the toll gate on the orders of the governor of Lagos State. A month after the shooting, following a CNN documentary on the shooting, the Nigerian Army admitted to the Lagos Judiciary panel of inquiry into the shooting that it had deployed its personnel to the toll gate with both live and blank bullets.
