Isaac Jenkins Mikell House

Commonly known as the Denmark Vesey House, the house located at 56 Bull Street in Charleston, South Carolina was for a long time thought to be the house once inhabited by black abolitionist Denmark Vesey. Vesey's home, listed as 20 Bull Street under the city's former numbering system, is now evidently gone. The narrow street facade has two windows, while the longer west side has a porch extending across the front portion, with a wider addition to the back. Two doors enter the house from the porch. The interior of the front portion has three rooms, one beside the other, and the rear addition has four more.

The Wentworth Mansion is a hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. It was built in 1886 as a home for cotton merchant Francis Silas Rodgers (b. 7 May 1841, d. 13 Mar 1911 (aged 69)) and his family. Rodgers' is buried in Magnolia Cemetery.The mansion is Second Empire in style.The Rodgers Mansion was purchased in 1920 for US$100,000 by the Scottish Rite Cathedral Association of Charleston, a Masonic organization. In 1922 it constructed an auditorium which could accommodate the organization's 600 members on the property, connected by a corridor to the mansion; the auditorium was removed some time later.It is a contributing property in the Charleston Historic District.It was listed as a member of Historic Hotels of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation since 2003.

The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture is a division of the College of Charleston library system. The center is located on the site of the former Avery Normal Institute in the Harleston village district at 125 Bull Street in Charleston, South Carolina. This historic secondary school trained Black students for professional careers and leadership roles, and served as a hub for Charleston’s African-American community from 1865 to 1954. In 1978, the alumni of the Avery Normal Institute, led by Lucille Whipper, formed the Avery Institute of Afro-American History and Culture. They worked with the College of Charleston to establish the Avery Research Center in 1985 to preserve the legacy of the Avery Normal Institute and educate the broader community about the history and culture of African Americans in Charleston, the South Carolina Lowcountry, and South Carolina at large. The Avery Research Center provides access to digital and physical archival collections, offers guided tours, hosts workshops, presents lectures and performances, and features physical and digital museum exhibitions. The Avery Research Center Archives currently hold over six thousand primary- and secondary-source materials that document the history, traditions, legacies, and influences of African Americans.

The John Schnierle House is an antebellum house in Charleston, South Carolina that was the home of Mayor John Schnierle. John Michael Schnierle, a carpenter, bought the property upon which 31 Pitt Street was built on January 9, 1817. It appears that the house was built as a rental property, as the Schnierle family continued to live at their Legare Street (then Friend Street) house until John Michael Schnierle died in 1844. His estate papers listed the house as one of his properties. When the estate was closed, the house at 31 Pitt Street was included in the portion received by his son, also named John Schnierle. The younger John Schnierle served as the mayor of Charleston from 1842 to 1845 and then again in 1851 and 1852.The house is a typical Charleston single house with Greek Revival details. The house was restored following its purchase by Wilson Ford Fullbright in 1971.

Bethel Methodist Church is a congregation and the building located at 57 Pitt St. The congregation organized in the late eighteenth century and originally built a smaller wooden church on the site. It served both white and black Methodists. This Greek Revival building was designed by E. Curtis in 1852 and completed in 1854. It was reserved for white members only. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Cannon Park is a 2.7 acre public park located in peninsular Charleston, South Carolina. It is bound to the north by Calhoun St. and to the south by Bennett St. To the east and west are Rutledge Ave. and Ashley Ave. respectively.

Old Bethel United Methodist Church is located at 222 Calhoun Street, Charleston, South Carolina. It is the oldest Methodist church still standing in the city.Originally built about 1797/1798 for the Bethel Methodist congregation, after 1854 this structure was moved from its first place on the site and reserved for its black members. The white members took control of the new church completed that year on the site. In 1882 officials of Bethel Methodist gave this wooden church building to the black church members; they moved it across to the north side of Calhoun Street (earlier known as Boundary Street) in April 1882.Both churches were listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

The William Blacklock House is a historic house at 18 Bull Street in Charleston, South Carolina. A National Historic Landmark, this brick house, built in 1800 for a wealthy merchant, is one of the nation's finest examples of Adamesque architecture. It is now owned by the College of Charleston, housing its Office of Alumni Relations.

The Richard Brenan House is an early 19th-century house at 207 Calhoun St., Charleston, South Carolina. The house was built for Richard Brenan, a merchant, in 1817 and originally included the adjacent land to the west (a parking lot today). The house is a three-story Charleston single house with quoins and fine cornice. The house was a two-story piazza on the west side.In 1835, the house was bought by Nathaniel Russell Middleton, a president of the College of Charleston, for his widowed sister-in-law. In 1881, the house became the parsonage for Bethel Methodist located across Pitt St. from the house. The church put the house up for sale in 1965. It was restored as a private house by Mr. and Mrs. G.A.Z. Johnson.

The John Scott House at 38 Coming Street is one of the two oldest buildings on the Charleston, South Carolina campus of the College of Charleston.In 1770, wealthy Charlestonian John Scott executed a 31-year lease for the property from St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Several lots along Coming Street were conveyed at the same time, and the papers for the nearby house at 34 Coming Street was one. The documents for that conveyance included a requirement that a two-story house be built within seven years. That term was common for properties acquired from the church, and the same term was presumably part of the transfer to John Scott.The main floor of the house was remodeled in the Greek Revival style before the Civil War. The College of Charleston bought the house in 1972 from Mrs. Helen McGill for $37,000. When the College of Charleston acquired the house, it was being used as a rental property, and college officials could not have access to all of the units. After purchasing the house, however, a room with Georgian paneling and doors was located on the second floor, confirming an early construction date.

Colonial Lake is a tidal pond in Charleston, South Carolina with wide walkways around it. The area is used as a park. For many years the lake was known as the Rutledge Street Pond; some residents still call it "The Pond." It acquired the name Colonial Lake in 1881, in honor of the "Colonial Commons" established in 1768.
