Colonial Lake is a tidal pond in Charleston, South Carolina with wide walkways around it. The area is used as a park. For many years the lake was known as the Rutledge Street Pond; some residents still call it "The Pond." It acquired the name Colonial Lake in 1881, in honor of the "Colonial Commons" established in 1768.

The Murray Vocational School is located at 3 Chisolm Street, Charleston, South Carolina. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.The school was built by the City of Charleston and opened in 1923 as the Murray Vocational School, named in honor of philanthropist Andrew Buist Murray. Murray, who had grown up in a Charleston orphanage, financed the construction of the school as his way of repaying the city. David Hyer, a former civil engineer at the Charleston Naval yard, designed the three-story, masonry and steel main building in the Neoclassical Revival style. The building's masonry facade, engaged portico, and fanlighted doorway are all characteristic of the style. The original two-story brick custodian's cottage and a circa 1950 three-story gymnasium complete the facility. The school closed in 1970 and the property was used by the Charleston County School District as its offices. The building was abandoned by the school district when it completed new headquarters at 75 Calhoun St. The three buildings were restored and converted into a 27-unit condominium project in the early 2000s. The adaptive reuse was accomplished with only minimal exterior changes. The restoration of the building received a Carolopolis Award from the Preservation Society of Charleston in January 2003.

The Wentworth Mansion is a hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. It was built in 1886 as a home for cotton merchant Francis Silas Rodgers (b. 7 May 1841, d. 13 Mar 1911 (aged 69)) and his family. Rodgers' is buried in Magnolia Cemetery.The mansion is Second Empire in style.The Rodgers Mansion was purchased in 1920 for US$100,000 by the Scottish Rite Cathedral Association of Charleston, a Masonic organization. In 1922 it constructed an auditorium which could accommodate the organization's 600 members on the property, connected by a corridor to the mansion; the auditorium was removed some time later.It is a contributing property in the Charleston Historic District.It was listed as a member of Historic Hotels of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation since 2003.

The Isaac Jenkins Mikell House is an imposing Roman Revival residence in the style of grand Italian villa that was built in 1853–1854 by Edisto Island cotton planter and slave owner Isaac Jenkins Mikell for his wife, Mary Martha Pope. The house should not be confused with Peter's Point Plantation, an Edisto Island plantation built in about 1840 by Isaac Jenkins Mikell which is also sometimes referred to as the Isaac Jenkins Mikell House. During the time of the construction of the newer house, Isaac Jenkins Mikell kept 154 people enslaved there.The southern facade (overlooking Montagu Street) is dominated by a pedimented portico with six columns with composite capitals carved from cypress and ornamented with rams’ heads. In addition to the main house, there is a kitchen building and separate coach house on the premises. A 1939 photograph shows the slave quarters. The house was bought in 1935 by the Charleston Free Library and served as a public library until the early 1960s when it was sold and restored as a private residence. In 2008, the house sold for $4.8 million to Manhattan socialite Patricia Altschul. The house is frequently featured on the Bravo television reality show, Southern Charm; Altschul is the mother of one of the program's regular cast, filmmaker Whitney Sudler-Smith, who is also executive producer of the show. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture is a division of the College of Charleston library system. The center is located on the site of the former Avery Normal Institute in the Harleston village district at 125 Bull Street in Charleston, South Carolina. This historic secondary school trained Black students for professional careers and leadership roles, and served as a hub for Charleston’s African-American community from 1865 to 1954. In 1978, the alumni of the Avery Normal Institute, led by Lucille Whipper, formed the Avery Institute of Afro-American History and Culture. They worked with the College of Charleston to establish the Avery Research Center in 1985 to preserve the legacy of the Avery Normal Institute and educate the broader community about the history and culture of African Americans in Charleston, the South Carolina Lowcountry, and South Carolina at large. The Avery Research Center provides access to digital and physical archival collections, offers guided tours, hosts workshops, presents lectures and performances, and features physical and digital museum exhibitions. The Avery Research Center Archives currently hold over six thousand primary- and secondary-source materials that document the history, traditions, legacies, and influences of African Americans.

The Robert Mills Manor is housing complex located in Harleston Village in Charleston, South Carolina that is included on the National Register.

The Old Marine Hospital is a historic medical building at 20 Franklin Street in Charleston, South Carolina. Built 1831–33 to a design by Robert Mills, it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973 for its association with Mills, and as a high-quality example of Gothic Revival architecture. The hospital was built as a public facility for the treatment of sick sailors and other transient persons.

Tristram Hyde House is a historic two-story home in Charleston, South Carolina constructed in 1914 for Tristram Hyde, who soon after became mayor of Charleston in 1915. It was designed by local architect Albert Wheeler Todd.Designed in a Neoclassical Revival architecture style, the residence includes two-story Ionic columned portico. The features are also described as being Federal Style architecture, including a front entry bordered by trimmed fanlight and sidelights.

The Faber-Ward House is a historic three-story home in Charleston, South Carolina. Henry F. Faber built the house about 1832 in a Palladian style reminiscent of Southern plantations. The house was converted into a hotel for African-Americans after the American Civil War and then a middle-class residence. In 1964, the Historic Charleston Foundation bought the house and undertook a restoration of the then-abandoned building.

American College of the Building Arts (ACBA) is a private four-year liberal arts and sciences college located in Charleston, South Carolina. It is licensed by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education to grant a Bachelor of Applied Science and an Associate of Applied Science in six craft specializations in the building arts. The college's model is unique in the United States, with its focus on total integration of a liberal arts and science education and the traditional building arts skills. Students choose from among six craft specializations: timber framing, architectural carpentry, plaster, classical architecture, blacksmithing and stone carving. ACBA's stated mission is to educate and train artisans in the traditional building arts in order to foster exceptional craftsmanship and encourage the preservation, enrichment and understanding of the world's architectural heritage through a liberal arts and science education. Current students come from more than 30 states. One quarter of the student body is female and one fifth are veterans. The majority of students have secured employment in their respective trades prior to graduation, aided by expertise gained from their education and externship experiences, critical analysis and deep knowledge base in preservation, restoration and appropriate materials needed in each of their chosen fields. The interdisciplinary approach allows graduates to be as educated as the architects with whom they work.

The Charleston Workhouse Slave Rebellion was a rebellion of enslaved South Carolinians that took place in Charleston, South Carolina, in July 1849. On July 13, 1849, an enslaved man named Nicholas Kelly led an insurrection, wounding several guards with improvised weapons and liberating 37 enslaved people. Most were quickly captured, and Nicholas and two others were tried and hanged.

The Old Charleston Jail is a site of historical and architectural significance in Charleston, South Carolina. Operational between 1802 and 1939, it held many notable figures, among them Denmark Vesey, Union officers during the Civil War, high-seas pirates, and Lavinia Fisher. While it has become a popular tourist destination in recent years, it remains one of the most notable historic sites in Charleston that has not been the target of a comprehensive preservation and/or renovation effort. It is also commonly referred to as the Old City Jail by the people of Charleston, South Carolina.
