Decatur Heights is a historic community located in the northeast corner of the Atlanta, Georgia suburb of Decatur. It includes residences, churches and a nature preserve. During much of the 20th Century, this community primarily consisted modest homes. However, in the 1990s it became a neighborhood where “tear downs” were increasingly common. This has resulted in the demolition of the modest cottages the community was historically known for. Decatur Heights is accessed off of East Ponce de Leon Avenue to the south, Church Street to the north and Winn Way to the east. The approximate boundaries of the community are Glennwood Estates to the west; Winn Way to the east; the Dekalb Medical Center to the north; Church Street to the northeast; and Ponce de Leon Avenue to the south. The Avondale MARTA station is located immediately south of the community. The community includes several distinct neighborhoods, each constructed in different decades. (Decatur Heights is commonly referred to as the community's name, but it is also the name of the oldest neighborhood within the community.) The neighborhoods located with the City of Decatur include Decatur Heights, Sycamore Ridge and Sycamore Station. The Springdale Heights neighborhood is also part of the Decatur Heights community, but is located in unincorporated DeKalb County. However, the City of Decatur began investigating annexation of Springdale Heights in 2008. The heart of the community and primary north-south road is Sycamore Drive. The geographic heart of the historic neighborhood is generally considered to be Sycamore Drive and Fairview Street. A country store, which was originally constructed as a residence, was located at the southwest corner of this intersection. The store was also torn down and replaced with a single family home.

Ridgeland Park is a residential subdivision in Decatur, Georgia, USA containing a mix of older and newer homes. The neighborhood lies partly within the City Limits of Decatur and partly outside the city in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia. The streets include Willow Lane, Pensdale Road, Eastland Drive, Greylock Place, part of Scott Blvd and part of Medlock Rd. Ridgeland Park is bordered by Church Street to the south and Scott Boulevard to the north. The Ridgeland Park Subdivision was constructed between 1946 and 1950. Many of the original homes still stand. Ridgeland Park is close proximity to Emory University, Agnes Scott College, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and downtown Decatur.

The Decatur Waterworks was a facility that obtained drinking water for the city of Decatur, Georgia, from the local Peachtree Creek and Burnt Fork Creek. Completed in 1907 and abandoned since the 1940s, the Waterworks have fallen into disrepair and are covered with graffiti. The Decatur Waterworks are in Mason Mill Park, near the city of Decatur.

Glennwood Estates is a historic neighborhood located in the northeast section of Decatur, Georgia. It is a residential neighborhood chiefly of single-family homes including a nature preserve and an adjoining park. At least a third of the homes were built in the 1920s and were relatively large for the time. Glenn Creek and the South Fork of Peachtree Creek Tributary run through the neighborhood. Glennwood Estates is accessed from East Ponce de Leon Avenue to the south, and Church Street and Sycamore Drive to the north. The heart of the community and primary north-south road is Glendale Avenue, which has two arcing branches- Mount Vernon Drive and Glenn Circle. The north end of Glendale Avenue terminates in Forkner Drive, another residential street with four cul-de-sacs, all part of the neighborhood. The varied topography, substantial trees, and historic residences are a defining characteristic of the neighborhood within the city of Decatur. The neighborhood borders two key local greenspaces-Glenlake Park and the Decatur Cemetery are northwest of Glennwood Estates. Both are accessible by a paved trail coming off Glenndale Avenue. Neighboring communities include the Ponce de Leon Court Historic District, characterized by bungalows developed in the 1920s, which is southwest of the neighborhood. The Decatur Heights neighborhood (and Glenn Creek Nature Preserve) lie just to the east. Ridgeland Avenue, Hickory Street and Fairview Street were developed as a part of Glennwood Estates, though are now generally considered part of the contiguous Decatur Heights community.

The Emory University Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital is part of the Emory Healthcare system. The hospital is situated in a six-story building at the intersection of Interstate 285 and Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker, Georgia, United States, and is staffed by full-time Emory physicians. The hospital, which does not have an emergency department, specializes in inpatient orthopedics and spine operations.

Avondale is a train station in Decatur, Georgia. It is on the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. The station is at-grade and has two island platforms, one for each direction. The center two tracks are not normally used for through service. Because of these middle tracks, it is not uncommon for trains to be bound for Avondale, having passengers change trains at Avondale. A limited number of Green Line trains originate and terminate at Avondale rather than at their normal terminus at Edgewood / Candler Park, though these trains bypass East Lake and Decatur.Green Line service is expected to be extended to Avondale full-time when the platform at Bankhead station is expanded to accommodate 8-car trains, in order to increase service on the East-West trunk line.This station opened on June 30, 1979; this was the original eastern terminus of the Blue Line. This station has parking (823 spaces) available on E. College Avenue. This station mainly serves Avondale Estates (although technically not located in the city limits) and Decatur Heights, as well as The City of Clarkston and The City of Tucker and Communities in: Scottdale, Northlake & North Decatur. Bus service is provided at this station to Clifton Springs Health Center, GRTA/Panola Park & Ride, DeKalb Lou Walker Senior Center, North DeKalb DeKalb Mall, DeKalb Farmers Market, Avondale Estates, Tucker, City of Clarkson, Mountain Industrial Business District, DeKalb Veterans Administration Clinic and DeKalb County Department of Family and Children Services Center (DFACS). East of the station is Avondale Yard, a train yard used to service, clean, store, and test the fleet of rolling stock it services. Adjacent to the yard is Laredo Bus Facility.

Woodlands Garden is an eight acre mostly-wooded public garden located in Decatur, Georgia. The Garden's mission is to preserve a woodland garden as an urban sanctuary to educate and engage the community in the natural world. This public greenspace serves as a native plant habitat for the Georgia Piedmont region, with over 30 species of trees. Ferns, wildflowers, vines, and shrubs are common features of the diverse plant collection. The Garden became a protected greenspace in 2002, when it was donated by the Morse family to become publicly accessible. The property has been influenced by landscape architect Edward L. Daugherty, among others.In 2015, Woodlands Garden completed a capital campaign to support an expansion to the Garden property and improvements to the current site as part of a master planning process. The multi-year project included updating visitor center improved parking and creation of safe school bus drop-off zone enhancements to the site of former Morse home, including ADA accessible pathsWoodlands Garden is open every day of the year from dawn to dusk for free. In addition to being a tranquil place for reflection, there are several workshops, events, and programs hosted on site. On Sundays, during warm weather months, local musicians perform during Music in the Garden sessions. Family-friendly annual programs such as Fairies in the Garden, Stories in the Woods, and Music, Art, & Youth showcase (M.A.Y. Fair) are organized to engage the community and bring together people of all ages. The small staff maintains and runs the garden with the help of skilled volunteers and interns. The Ponce de Leon Court Historic District consists of a single cul-de-sac located immediately east of downtown Decatur, Georgia. The street is accessed off of East Ponce de Leon Avenue, a historic road that runs east from Atlanta, Georgia through Decatur. Historic Decatur Cemetery is located to the north, and affluent Glynnwood Estates, developed in 1927, and Glenwood school border Ponce de Leon Court on the east. Ponce de Leon Court is a local historic district in the city of Decatur, and was listed in the Georgia Register of Historic Places in June 2010. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on November 2, 2011. The single-street district includes approximately 26 parcels, and was based on a subdivision plat developed by John L. Womack in the 1920s. Womack reportedly wanted homes on this street to remind him of the tropics, so he planted both palm trees and banana trees. The palm trees flourished, but the banana trees died. In the twenty-first century, residents successfully reintroduced banana trees on the north end of the street thanks to a change in the microclimate. The Womack family still owned property on the court when it was designated a historic district. The closely spaced homes on the narrow street are within walking distance of downtown Decatur, and were constructed in an era when developments did not plan adequately for the automobile. The sense of scale and detail created a strong sense of community, and resulted in this street being recognized as a unique asset in Decatur. Ponce de Leon Court primarily includes 1920s-era American Craftsman bungalows, but also has a few historic multi-family homes. Both the single and multi-family structures, as well as historic palm trees, have remained largely intact from the era when they were built. The street consists entirely of homes. There are no churches, businesses, or apartment blocks.
