Ruesga

Matienzo is the name of a village and a karst depression some 25 km southeast of Santander in Ruesga municipality, Cantabria, northern Spain. The limestone around Matienzo is riddled with caves (up to 58.6 km in length) which have been extensively explored over the last 50 years by Spanish and British cavers. As of December 2016 the total length of cave passage explored, was 377 km.

Los Machucos, o Colláu Espina, is a mountain pass in the easternmost sector of the Cantabrian Mountains, known as the Pas Mountains, in Cantabria, Spain. It is located at 921 metres (3,022 ft) above sea level and communicates the villages of Bustablado and San Roque de Riomiera. It is known for its slopes between 15 and 20%, reaching 28% at certain points. At the summit, there is a Monument to the Pasiega cattle. In cycling, it was climbed for the first time in the 2017 Vuelta a España, when it was used as the finish of stage 17. Los Machucos was also featured as a stage finish in the 2019 Vuelta a España.

The Asón-Agüera comarca is a historical region of Cantabria, Spain. It is located in the upper courses of the Asón and Agüera rivers, near the border with Vizcaya in the Basque Country. The comarca encompasses the basin of the Asón river and its tributaries such as the Gándara. The region was part of the historical territories of the Valley of Soba and Ruesga Villaverde, and the Merindad de Vecio (Junta de Parayas, Villas Laredo, Seña and clean, and Valle de Guriezo).

The El Mirón Cave is a large cave in the upper Asón River valley towards the eastern end of Cantabria in northern Spain, near the border of the Basque country. It is an archeological site in Ramales de la Victoria. It is known for a skeleton belonging to a woman nicknamed The Red Lady of El Mirón. She is estimated to have died around 18,700 years ago, during the Upper Paleolithic (Magdalenian). The skeleton is estimated to be that of a woman between 35 and 40 years. Her bones were coated with ochre, a red iron-based pigment, hence, her name. The cave was discovered in 1903 by amateur archaeologists Hermilio Alcalde del Río and Lorenzo Sierra. It contains a rich collection of Upper Paleolithic art. Among the prominent art there are the engravings of a horse and possibly one of a bison. The first systematic excavation started only in 1996. The team of archaeologists, led by Lawrence Straus of the University of New Mexico and Manuel González Morales of the University of Cantabria, made a discovery of a number of prehistoric remains. The Red Lady was discovered in 2010. The cave contains a large limestone block towards the rear. A narrow space running through the block was the location of the skeleton.

Hazas de Cesto is a municipality located in the autonomous community of Cantabria, Spain. According to the 2007 census, the city has a population of 1,285 inhabitants. Its capital is Beranga.

Gibaja (pop. 385) is situated in the north of Spain, in the Autonomous Region of Cantabria. It belongs to the council of Ramales de la Victoria. Gibaja is formed by a series of neighborhoods, namely La Quintana, Pondra, Riancho, Bárcena and La Estación. Gibaja has its own train station on the railway line FEVE which connects Bilbao and Santander. Two rivers, the Asón and the Carranza, cross Gibaja. The first is one of the most important salmon rivers in Cantabria.

Rasines is a municipality located in the autonomous community of Cantabria, Spain.

Trasmiera (Spanish: Trasmiera; Cantabrian and historically: Tresmiera) is a historic comarca of Cantabria (Spain), located to the east of the Miera River (tras Miera, meaning behind Miera, from the point of view of Asturias de Santillana), reaching the western side of the Asón. It extends between the bays of Santander and Santoña, occupying most of the Eastern seaboard of Cantabria. This piece of coast is known for its cliffs and fine beaches, such as those of Langre, Loredo, Isla, Noja and Berria. Towards the interior, the comarca offers large prairies as well as considerable hotel and camping development.
