Backus-Marblemount Ranger Station House No. 1009

The Backus-Marblemount Ranger Station House No. 1010 is in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, in the U.S. state of Washington. Constructed by the United States Forest Service in 1933, the ranger station was inherited by the National Park Service when North Cascades National Park was dedicated in 1968. The ranger station was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.Backus-Marblemount Ranger Station House No. 1010 is a wood framed and sided structure, one-and-a-half story tall that is 28 ft (8.5 m) wide at front and 34 ft (10 m) deep. The front entrance has a small, "gable-roofed entrance portico with arched stickwork in pediment, supported by wrought iron posts," while the north entrance also had a small gable supported by a king post truss. The gable ends to the east and west are sheathed in board and batten style siding. Backus-Marblemount Ranger Station House No. 1010 is less than 50 yd (46 m) northwest of Backus-Marblemount Ranger Station House No. 1009.

The Cascade River is a river in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a tributary of the Skagit River which it joins at the city of Marblemount. It is a National Wild and Scenic River.

Illabot Creek is a designated National Wild and Scenic River in Northern Washington which provides a spawning and rearing habitat for summer and fall chinook, coho, chum and pink salmon; as well as steelhead and bull trout. The creek is in the Skagit River watershed. Puget Sound Chinook, steelhead and bull trout are listed under the Endangered Species Act. Illabot Creek also supports the highest density of chum and pink salmon in the Skagit River watershed. The creek area also provides habitat for wintering bald eagles that are attracted to the salmon, part of one of the largest concentration of wintering bald eagles in the continental United States.The creek is generally managed by the U.S. Forest Service, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest with a protected length of 14.3 miles (23.0 km) and as a reported area of 2.15 square miles (5.6 km2). A 2018 project invested $4.4 million in restoration of fish habitat along the creek. The National Wild and Scenic Rivers protection was authorized by Congress in December 2014.Illabot Creek begins at the 7,500 feet elevation in the Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest and enters the Skagit River in Rockport, Washington. 262 acres (106 ha) of property around the creek was acquired in 2017 by The Nature Conservancy and placed in the Skagit Land Trust.

Damnation Peak is a 5,635-foot-elevation (1,718 m) mountain summit located in the North Cascades of Washington state. It is situated within North Cascades National Park, Stephen Mather Wilderness, and Whatcom County. Like many North Cascades peaks, Damnation Peak is more notable for its large, steep rise above local terrain than for its absolute elevation. Topographic relief is significant as the south aspect rises 2,800 feet (850 meters) above Damnation Creek in approximately 1.5 mile, and the north aspect rises 3,000 feet (910 meters) above Triumph Creek in one mile. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into these tributaries of the Skagit River. Neighbors include Mount Triumph, 2.8 miles (4.5 km) to the north-northeast, and Trappers Peak is 2.8 miles (4.5 km) to the east-northeast. The town of Newhalem is six miles to the east. In 1938, Lloyd Anderson climbed a nearby summit which is known today as Thornton Peak and called it "Damnation."

Sauk Mountain (Lushootseed: dxʷgʷiʔt) is a 5,541-foot (1,689-metre) mountain summit located in Skagit County of Washington state. It is situated immediately north of Rockport State Park and the North Cascades Highway, on land managed by the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Sauk Mountain is positioned west of the crest of the North Cascades Range, approximately nine miles east of Concrete, Washington, and 17 miles north of the town of Darrington. Its nearest higher peak is Helen Buttes, 5.86 miles (9.43 km) to the northeast. A popular two-mile trail provides hikers with good views from the craggy summit of Mount Baker, Mount Shuksan, Mount Chaval, and the Picket Range. Precipitation runoff from Sauk Mountain drains into tributaries of the Skagit River. The mountain's name, "Sauk" comes from its position immediately north of the confluence of the Sauk River with the Skagit River, which in turn comes from the Sauk people, a people indigenous to the Sauk River area. The name for the mountain in their language, Lushootseed, is dxʷgʷiʔt.

Rockport is a census-designated place (CDP) in Skagit County, Washington, United States. The population was 109 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Mount Vernon–Anacortes, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area. Based on per capita income, Rockport ranks 48th of 522 areas in the state of Washington to be ranked.

The Noisy-Diobsud Wilderness is a relatively small wilderness area in northwestern Washington state adjacent to North Cascades National Park. Created in 1984, the Noisy-Diobsud contains 14,100 acres (57 km2) of steep valleys, subalpine lakes, and the summits of Anderson Butte and Mount Watson. It is part of Mount Baker National Forest. The only maintained trail enters the west side of the wilderness from the Anderson Lakes road above Baker Lake.

Big Devil Peak is a 7,055-foot-elevation (2,150 meter) mountain summit located in North Cascades National Park in Skagit County of Washington state. The peak lies midway between Marblemount and Newhalem and can be seen from the North Cascades Highway at the road pullout for Big Devil Falls. The peak rises 6,600+ feet above the valley floor at this viewing location in the valley. Big Devil is the highest peak of Teebone Ridge, and other peaks on this ridge include Little Devil Peak, Fallen Angel, and The Trapezoid. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into tributaries of the Skagit River.

The Sauk River is a tributary of the Skagit River, approximately 45 miles (72 km) long, in northwestern Washington in the United States. It drains an area of the high Cascade Range in the watershed of Puget Sound north of Seattle. The river is a popular destination for fly fishing. It is a National Wild and Scenic River.Its two forks rise in the Cascades in eastern Snohomish County, in the Glacier Peak Wilderness and join to form the mainstem Sauk River at Bedal. From there the river flows northwest from there through a remote section of the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest to Darrington, then north to join the Skagit River from the south at Rockport. The Sauk River receives the Suiattle River from the east approximately 12 miles (19 km) south of Rockport and the White Chuck River just above Darrington. Another important tributary is Clear Creek, which joins the Sauk just above Darrington. At Darrington the Sauk River comes so close to the head of the North Fork Stillaguamish River that boats used to portage across the divide.The name "Sauk" comes from the Sah-kee-ma-hu (Sauk-Suiattle tribe), a group related to the Skagit tribes, not from the Sauk tribe of the Midwestern U.S.

Mount Watson is a 6,220-foot-elevation (1,900-meter) summit located in the North Cascades, in Whatcom County of Washington state.

Rockport State Park is a 632-acre (256 ha) public recreation area at the foot of Sauk Mountain in Skagit County, Washington. The state park is notable for its nearly 600 acres (240 ha) of old-growth forest. The park offers five miles of hiking trails including the Sauk Mountain Trail and the Evergreen Trail which traverses the old-growth forest.

Watson Glacier is in Snoqualmie National Forest in the U.S. state of Washington, on the north slope of Mount Watson. Watson Glacier retreated 430 ft (130 m) between 1950 and 2007 and is now only 1,150 ft (350 m) in length. Watson Glacier descends from 6,000 to 5,700 ft (1,800 to 1,700 m).
