Upper Cumberworth is a small village in West Yorkshire, England, within the civil parish of Denby Dale and the Diocese of Wakefield. It is between the villages of Denby Dale and Shepley, above the village of Lower Cumberworth. It occupies a rural location, surrounded by fields and woodland but close to Huddersfield, Barnsley, Wakefield and Sheffield by public transport or road. The 2001 Census gave the population of Upper Cumberworth and Lower Cumberworth combined as 1,222.

Shepley is a village in the civil parish of Kirkburton, in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England, and in the Diocese of Wakefield. It lies 8 miles (13 km) south south east of Huddersfield and 6 miles (9.7 km) north west of Penistone. In the 2011 census the population of Shepley and Birdsedge was 2,851.

Shepley railway station serves the villages of Shepley and Shelley in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the Penistone Line operated by Northern. Opened by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1850, it is located at the southern end of one of the two passing loops on the otherwise single track section between Barnsley and Huddersfield. Shepley was also the junction station for the former branch line to Clayton West, via Skelmanthorpe from its opening in 1879 until closure in January 1983 – the branch has since been reopened as the minimum gauge Kirklees Light Railway, whose western terminus at Shelley is located just under a mile to the east. The station layout is slightly unusual in that the platforms are staggered (on the opposite sides of a road bridge, as can be seen in the accompanying photo) rather than being located opposite each other like other stations on the route. The station once had a goods yard which has now been converted to housing; its main building on the northbound platform still stands, but is not in rail use.

Lower Cumberworth is a village in the borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. The village is situated 8 miles (13 km) to the south-east of Huddersfield. The civil parish of Denby Dale covers the village. The parish council gave the population of the villages of Upper and Lower Cumberworth as 1,222 in the 2001 Census.

Shelley is a village in the civil parish of Kirkburton in the county of West Yorkshire, England. The village is 3 miles (5 km) north of Holmfirth and 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Huddersfield.

The Royd Moor Wind Farm is located at Penistone, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, and consists of thirteen 450 kW turbines. The site is located approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) north west of Penistone, above the A628 trunk road between Barnsley and Manchester. The turbines are set in two parallel, staggered rows of six and seven, on a ridge in hilly fell land lying 320 metres (1,050 ft) above sea level. These turbines were completed in 1993 and are 35 metres (115 ft) in height to the hub and have a rotor diameter of 37 metres (121 ft). The maximum output is 6 mW, equivalent to the annual energy required to power 3,300 homes.The original planning application was for a 25-year operation but this has been extended to 30 years. Currently, the farm is due to be decommissioned in 2023.

Denby Dale railway station serves the village of Denby Dale, in West Yorkshire, England and the surrounding area. It lies on the Penistone Line 9.5 miles (15 km) south east of Huddersfield and is operated by Northern. Opened by the Huddersfield & Sheffield Junction Railway in 1850 (which subsequently became part of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway), it originally had two platforms but lost the northbound one when the Clayton West Junction to Penistone section was singled in 1969. The line from the south is carried above the village on an impressive 21-arch stone viaduct which is over 100 feet (30 m) high (one of several such structures on the route).

Ingbirchworth is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It is in the civil parish of Gunthwaite and Ingbirchworth and is on the boundary of Kirklees in West Yorkshire. At the 2001 Census, the parish had a population of 400, increasing to 460 at the 2011 Census, and now estimated to be around 600. The village is notable for its reservoir, the eldest of the three situated in the area (the others being Royd Moor and Scout Dike). During extreme droughts in the summer the reservoir has been known to dry out to the extent that the old bridge over the original stream, Summer Ford Bridge, can be seen. Development is mostly laid out along two lines: older houses and farms along the former turnpike of Huddersfield Road (the A629) and newer housing estates along Wellthorne Lane. It has one pub, The Fountain Inn, which reopened in 2021 having been saved from demolition. There is an agricultural supplies and hardware shop on the edge of the village on Huddersfield Road. The Grange is the oldest extant building in the village, dating to 1624. This and a number of other properties in the older part of the village are Grade II listed.

Denby Dale Viaduct is a grade II listed railway viaduct in Denby Dale, West Yorkshire, England. The curving viaduct carries the Penistone line over the Dearne valley in Denby Dale. The viaduct is constructed of stone, but the first viaduct to carry the line in that location was made of wood, being replaced by the current structure in 1880. The abutments of the former viaduct are easily discernible against the western side of the present viaduct.

Thunder Bridge or Thunderbridge is a hamlet and bridge in the civil parish of Kirkburton, in the Kirklees district, in the county of West Yorkshire, England. It is near the A629 road and Stocksmoor railway station. Its post town is Huddersfield. It has a pub called the Woodman Inn. The bridge is a Grade II listed building which is a road bridge over Shepley Dike.

Stocksmoor railway station serves the village of Stocksmoor near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, England. The station is 6.25 miles (10 km) from Huddersfield on the Penistone Line operated by Northern. Most of the Penistone Line is single track between Huddersfield and Barnsley (and has been since 1989). However, Stocksmoor marks the first point (for Sheffield-bound trains) or last point (for Huddersfield-bound trains) where there is dual running track (the passing loop extends as far south as the next station at Shepley and most trains are scheduled to pass each other on this section).
