Szőny was a town in Hungary. Since 1977, it has been part of the city of Komárom.

The fortification system of town Komárno is the biggest fortification in Slovakia, and as a whole complex with fortifications on the Hungarian side of the Danube it is the biggest fortification in former Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Komárom county (in Latin: comitatus Comaromiensis, in Hungarian: Komárom (vár)megye, in Slovak: Komárňanský komitát / Komárňanská stolica / Komárňanská župa, in German: Komorner Gespanschaft / Komitat Komorn) was an administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary, situated on both sides of the Danube river. Today, the territory to the north of the Danube is part of Slovakia, while the territory to the south of the Danube is part of Hungary.

Fortress of Komárno, in Slovakia, is the central part of the Komárno fortification system at the confluence of the Danube and Váh rivers.

Komárno District (Slovak: okres Komárno, Hungarian: Komáromi járás) is a district in the Nitra Region of western Slovakia. Until 1918, the district was mostly part of the Komárom county within the Kingdom of Hungary. The district has a population of 108.556 of which 74.976 (69.1%) are Hungarians and 30.079 (27.7%) are Slovaks (2001).

J. Selye University (Hungarian: Selye János Egyetem, Slovak: Univerzita J. Selyeho) is the only Hungarian-language university in Slovakia. It was established in 2004 in Komárno (Hungarian: (Rév)Komárom) and it has three faculties. It is named after Hans Selye (Hungarian: Selye János), a 20th-century Hungarian endocrinologist (see: Education in Slovakia). The number of students attending the university has increased from 1731 in 2015 to 1894 in 2020.

The Battle of Hetény, fought on 5 September 1849, between Hungarian Hussars led by General György Klapka and a Russian detachment of Cossacks was one of the last battles of the Hungarian War of Independence. After the surrender of the Hungarian army led by General Artúr Görgei at Szőlős, one of the last strongholds of the Hungarian independence was the fortress of Komárom, which now was being surrounded by Austrian and Russian troops. The small reconnaissance unit of Hungarian hussars which tried to acquire knowledge about the enemy's strength, was attacked by a platoon of Russian cossacks, but the Hungarians defeated them, using the tactic of feigned retreat. These kind of small scaled battles and skirmishes between Hungarian troops with the Austrian and Russian besieging units continued until the surrender of the fortress of Komárom on 2 October 1849.

Komárno (Hungarian: Komárom, German: Komorn, Serbian: Коморан, romanized: Komoran), colloquially also called Révkomárom, Öregkomárom, Észak-Komárom in Hungarian; is a town in Slovakia at the confluence of the Danube and the Váh rivers. Historically it was formed by the "old town" on the left bank of Danube, present day Komárno in Slovakia, and by a "new town" on the right bank, present day Komárom in Hungary, which were historically one administrative unit. Following World War I and the Treaty of Trianon, the border of the newly created Czechoslovakia cut the historical, unified town in half, creating two new independent towns in two countries. Komárno and Komárom are connected by the Elisabeth Bridge, which used to be an official border crossing between Slovakia and Hungary until border checks were lifted due to the Schengen Area rules. In 2020, a new road bridge was opened.Komárno is Slovakia's principal port on the Danube. It is also the center of the Hungarian community in Slovakia, which makes up 53.8% (2011 census) of the town's population. The town is the historic seat of the Serbian national minority in Slovakia.
