Oakdale was an unincorporated rural residential village established in 1908 by the State of Iowa as a statewide treatment center for tuberculosis (TB) in rural Johnson County, located about five miles northwest of central Iowa City and now a part of Coralville, immediately adjacent to the community of North Liberty.The site was chosen for its remoteness, its location along a railroad, and its proximity to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. As a partially self-sustaining community, Oakdale included a depot on the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway (CRandIC) line, power plant, several residential patient and staff buildings, pharmacy, postal and administrative units, as well as associated facilities to support varied farming operations intended to help sustain the institution, including a large dairy. Treatment protocols during much of Oakdale's more than half-century of operation included a regimen of rest, fresh air year around, and a nutritious diet. Before its naming in 1839, TB had been called "consumption" during much of its 4,500-year history as a human disease dating from Babylonian writings and Egyptian mummies. Beginning with just eight patients but ending its first year with 45 in residence, Oakdale continued to grow, which forced repeated expansions, including a major one during 1926. Size of the associated farm ground also was increased to nearly 500 acres (200 hectares) from an original 280 acres (110 hectares). Its patient census peaked during the 1940s at about 400. Improving public health standards and development of the first drug cure for TB in 1944 caused Oakdale usage to decline and the facility was morphed briefly into an alcohol treatment center about 1960 as alternate uses were sought. The entire facility and land were transferred to University of Iowa ownership in 1965, and the last tuberculosis patient was transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1981.The university established its Agricultural Medical Research Facility at Oakdale in 1966 as the first step of a major evolution of this rural satellite campus, which now also houses the State Hygienic Laboratory in a new facility, as well as the university's 197-acre Oakdale Research Park, where, among many other facilities, the National Advanced Driving Simulator is located. A separate entity that also carries the Oakdale name because of its proximity but was never a part of historic Oakdale, the Iowa prison system's Iowa Medical and Classification Center is located immediately across the road from the main Oakdale campus. The facility was opened in 1969 on slightly more than 50 acres (20 hectares) and now has more than 500 beds. It includes prison system entry from all parts of Iowa, plus the statewide prisoner medical treatment and psychiatric units. It also houses a maximum security facility.

The Iowa Medical and Classification Center (IMCC) is a medium security correctional facility located in the Johnson County community Oakdale in Coralville, Iowa. It currently houses about 900 inmates. The main role of the IMCC is to serve as a reception and classification center for adults being sent to prison. Inmates here are assigned to one of the various prisons in Iowa. For this purpose, the center has a medium security general population unit. IMCC is also the home of the Iowa Forensic Psychiatric Hospital which holds up to 28 patients while being evaluated for mental competency. IMCC also provides medical, educational, and social services to other Iowa prisons. It holds a medium security general population of about 300 Incarcerated Individuals, who work to maintain the facility. In February 2007 a portion of the perimeter fence surrounding the center was damaged in an ice storm. After making temporary plans, officials have proposed replacing all the perimeter fences at the facility - the proposal is currently being studied by the Iowa Legislature.In early May 2020, James McKinney the facility's warden since 2015 suddenly resigned. Newspaper reports indicated that an investigation showed proper safeguards against COVID-19 were not being enforced. His replacement and the current warden of the IMCC is Mike Heinricy.

Coral Ridge Mall is an enclosed super-regional shopping mall located just south of Interstate 80 in Coralville, Iowa. The mall's primary trade area includes Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and other parts of eastern Iowa. It is owned, developed and managed by GGP (formerly General Growth Properties), which had become a subsidiary of Brookfield Properties in 2018. The mall has a total floor area of 1,187,097 square feet (110,285 m2), with a gross leasable area of 979,415 square feet (90,991 m2). It also features a 1,000-seat food court with Wi-Fi internet access, a large "antique" carousel, a children's play area, and an NHL regulation-sized ice rink. While the ice rink is primarily used for public skating, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes hockey team plays most of its home games there. The mall's anchor stores are PetSmart, Marshalls, Barnes & Noble, Dillard's, Ashley HomeStore, Marcus Cinema, The Iowa Children's Museum, Best Buy, Target, H&M, Scheels All Sports, JCPenney, Old Navy, Shoe Dept. Encore, Five Below, Ulta Beauty, HomeGoods, and Planet Fitness.

Coralville is a city in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. It is a suburb of Iowa City and part of the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 22,318 at the 2020 census.

North Liberty is a city in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. It is a suburb of Iowa City and part of the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 20,479. From 2000 to 2010, North Liberty was the second fastest-growing city in Iowa. A 2017 LendEDU poll named North Liberty the ninth most educated city in the United States and the most educated city in the Midwest.

H.A. White General Store and House is a historic building located in North Liberty, Iowa, United States. The central portion of the two-story frame building was completed in 1876. At least three additions were built onto the original in subsequent years. It housed the commercial businesses and residence of H.A. White and his family. It was the only commercial enterprise in North Liberty between 1876 and 1889. White served as the local postmaster from 1877 through 1888, and the building housed the post office in those years. Dr. James Polk Von Stein boarded here c. 1879 to 1891 and had his office here as well. After 1903 the building was used only as a residence, and became a rental property by the 1980s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The building is presently used once again for commercial purposes.

Liberty High School is a public high school in North Liberty, Iowa, located within the Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD). It opened in August 2017. Liberty is the third comprehensive high school in ICCSD and covers the entirety of North Liberty and northern Coralville. Liberty is led by Principal Justin Colbert and Assistant Principals Emily O'Donnell, Keaton Rickels, and Tunisia May.

The Samuel and Emma A. Ranshaw House is a historic building in North Liberty, Iowa, United States. At the time this house was built in 1908, North Liberty was a small and prosperous farming community. The Ranshaws engaged Iowa City architect-builder Bernard Wickham to design and construct this transitional Free Classic subtype of the Queen Anne style. It is characterized by simple classical decorative details that were becoming popular in the early 20th-century, as opposed to the more elaborate elements of the Late Victorian style. It was a typical house that Wickham was building in this area. The 10-acre (4.0 ha) farmstead on which it was built was surrounded by farm fields just to the west of the town. Suburban development now surrounds the house on its 2-acre (0.81 ha) lot. In addition to the house, a concrete sidewalk and cistern cap with inlaid glass marbles that are set in geometric and floral patterns is included in the nomination. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Coralville Union Ecclesiastical Church, also known as Coralville Town Hall, is a historic building located in Coralville, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Coralville Public School, also known as the Fifth Street School, is a historic building located in Coralville, Iowa, United States. This two-story brick structure replaced Coralville's first school building, which was destroyed in a fire. It housed grades one through eight from 1876 to 1949, and it was the town's only school building during that time. It was closed two years later when Coralville schools became a part of the Iowa City Community School District. After its use as a school it has housed a teen center and then for the storage of school equipment. It has subsequently been converted into a museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The former school now sits across the street from the historic Coralville Union Ecclesiastical Church and Town Hall (c. 1885), which was moved there in 2014. Both buildings flank the entrance to a mixed use development known as Old Town.There are three cast-iron star clamps in a triangular pattern on the main facade, and three on each side of the structure. Their placement on the building is as much decorative as they are structural.
