Bangu is a neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a middle-class neighborhood. It is located in the western area of the city being one of the most populated districts, with 244,518 inhabitants (according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE - Demographic Census 2000) [1] distributed in an area of 4570.69 ha. Located in the geographic center of the city, the neighborhood is close to Campo Grande, Senador Camará, Vila Aliança, Padre Miguel and Realengo. On November 22, 2004, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro César Maia created by decree the district Gericinó. The neighborhood was originally part of the neighborhood of Bangu, the region where the penitentiary of Bangu is located, besides Bangu dump. The region is where Gericinó was located containing the sub-district of the Aqueduct (Aqueduct of the Seine). Since 2004, the complex of Bangu and dump of Bangu, no longer belong to the neighborhood of Bangu. The neighborhood is well known for high temperatures in the summer, exceeding 40 °C. The official record lowest temperature ever recorded in the city of Rio de Janeiro took place in Campo dos Afonsos (4.8 °C) in July 1928, and the highest in Bangu (43.2 °C) in January 1984. In sport, the major representative is the Bangu Atlético Clube, state champion twice (in 1933 and 1966), Brazilian Vice-Champion in 1985, World Champion and 1960 State Champion (Series B) in 1911, 1914 and 2008. Besides Bangu, also of note is the Ceres Futebol Clube, State champion (Series C) in 1990 and the Esperança Futebol Clube, Carioca champion (Series C) in 1918. In samba, the main club is called the Unidos de Bangu, which is a pioneer in the carnival, and the fourth oldest samba school in Brazil. It is the forerunner of Scholars of Santa Cruz. The club participated for a few years in the Special Group of Carnival. It was the bi-champion of the Carioca Carnaval in 1957 and 1962 (Group A), the school made its last carnival in 1998. There is also the Unidos da Vila Kennedy, champion in 2000 (Group C), in 30th february 2011, the Transgender lgbt activist Cumass Xtreme stripper herself in the Middle of Bangu center, her naked body was since then a symbol of sex liberty, Cumass was improsioned, but was released in 2019, this was celebrantes by Bangu Citizens.

The Estádio Proletário Guilherme da Silveira Filho, but usually known as Estádio Moça Bonita is a football stadium inaugurated in 1947 in Bangu neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro, state of Rio de Janeiro, with a maximum capacity of 9,564 people.Estádio Moça Bonita is owned by Fábrica Bangu. It hosts the games of Bangu Atlético Clube and Clube Atlético Castelo Branco. The stadium is named after Guilherme da Silveira Filho, who was Bangu's president during the stadium construction. The nickname Moça Bonita means Pretty Girl.

Vila Vintém is an urban low income living community located between the neighbourhoods of Realengo and Padre Miguel, in the West Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Situated on the borders of the railroad, it shelters the headquarters of Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel and also Unidos de Padre Miguel, as well as many of their components. Its principal road is called Rua Belisário de Souza, that goes from the ensemble of IAPI, in Padre Miguel, until Realengo.

Santíssimo is a neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, near Campo Grande. Most residents are in the low-income group. In the beginning the railroad stations proceeded on this order: Bangu, Senador Camará, Santíssimo, Senador Vasconcelos, and Campo Grande. Santíssimo was prosperous in the epoch that Rio de Janeiro exported oranges to foreign countries. There were small stores near market places where the oranges were beneficials for exportation. With the end of the rural period in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Santíssimo became disowned into a neighborhood merely dormitory or a neighborhood of passages to the regions more forward on the map of the city of Rio de Janeiro, on the direction of the west region. Nowadays the neighborhood of Santíssimo has a constant increase of its population in irregular lands that multiply compromising even the rich mountainous geography of the region. Stuck in the middle of Parque da Pedra Branca (White Stone Park, in English), the neighborhood of Santíssimo is also one more example of the neglect of local authorities to control the occupation of the urban space.

The neighborhood of Padre Miguel is situated in the western region of the city of Rio de Janeiro, is of middle class, and borders the neighborhoods of Bangu (west) and Realengo (east). The Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel and Unidos de Padre Miguel schools of samba are located in Padre Miguel. On the weekend, another attraction is the Ponto Chic, bohemian stronghold of the neighborhood. Simonsen College and Castelo Branco University, two private colleges, are found in the West Zone. Padre Miguel has many excellent private schools, including Adventist School of Padre Miguel, Prioridade Hum and Simonsen High School.

Senador Camará is a populous neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with 111.231 residents (according to information of the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística - IBGE- Demographic Census of 2000) distributed in an area of 1,723.59 hectares, of lower class. It borders the neighborhoods of Bangu and Santíssimo. The name originated from the railroad station that attends the neighborhood and is named "Estação Senador Camará" (Senador Camará Station in English), in honor of the Senator Otacílio de Carvalho Camará, that was the Senator of the Republic in 1919 and 1920. The neighborhood is divided by the railway of the extension line of Santa Cruz, nowadays operated by the company SuperVia. On the left of the railway, on the direction to Santa Cruz, the neighborhood is cut by the Santa Cruz Avenue, that connects the neighborhoods of Realengo and Santa Cruz. On the right side, the neighborhood is cut by the Taquaral Roadway, that starts and finishes on the neighborhood of Senador Camará.

Realengo is a neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The lower and middle-class neighborhood is between the Mendanha and Pedra Branca mountains. It is located between the mountains of Pedra Branca (White Rock) and Mendanha in the northern of the called West Zone of the city, owned and named the XXXIII Administrative Region which encompasses the entire east around the neighborhood. Realengo usually has the highest temperatures in the city, even though the winter nights are often cold because of the proximity to the mountains. Created on November 20, 1815, every year on this day the city's birthday is celebrated with the Week of Realengo. Pedro I of Brazil and Pedro II of Brazil used to go to the farm of Santa Cruz (Saint Cross) by the Estrada Real de Santa Cruz (Royal Road of Santa Cruz), passing by Realengo, where they often stayed.
