Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal

Kilsby and Crick was a railway station on the Northampton Loop Line serving the villages of Kilsby and Crick in Northamptonshire. It was located to the eastern side of where the railway crossed the A5 road at the site now occupied by the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal. It was located about a mile from Kilsby and one and a half from Crick. The station was opened along with the line in 1881, by the London and North Western Railway which became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923. The line then passed on to the London Midland Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. The station closed to passengers on 1 February 1960 and to goods on 6 July 1964. Most of the station was demolished, but part of the goods platform to the west of the A5 still survives.

Kilsby is a village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire, England. It is situated a short distance south of the border with Warwickshire approximately five miles southeast of Rugby. The parish of Kilsby, which includes Barby Nortoft, was estimated to have a population of 1,268 in 2020.

Barby Nortoft is a settlement in the civil parish of Barby, in the English county of Northamptonshire. It is south-east of the town of Rugby, Warwickshire. The population of the settlement is included in the civil parish of Kilsby. The West Coast Main Line passes through the area, making it popular with railway photographers.

The Kilsby Tunnel is a railway tunnel on the West Coast Main Line in England, near the village of Kilsby in Northamptonshire, roughly 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Rugby. It is 2,423 yards (2,216 m) long. The Kilsby Tunnel was designed and engineered by Robert Stephenson for the London & Birmingham Railway (L&BR). It was constructed by contractors Joseph Nowell & Sons and later by the L&BR. It took much longer to construct and exceeded its estimated cost, attributed to a roof collapse and consequential flooding. At the time of its opening in 1838, it was the longest railway tunnel ever constructed.The tunnel had atypically large ventilation shafts, because of a lack of experience as to how much ventilation would be needed for steam locomotives to pass through. On opening in 1838, the tunnel was single track and in 1879, double-track was laid. In March 1987, Kilsby Tunnel portals and its two ventilation shafts were given listed status.

Houlton is a large housing development to the east of Rugby, Warwickshire. It is located between the Rugby suburb of Hillmorton, Warwickshire and Crick, Northamptonshire, west of the A5 road and M1 motorway. The first residents took up residence in December 2017, and upon completion there are expected to be 6,200 houses.Between 1926 and 2007 the site on which most of the development sits was part of the Rugby Radio Station. It was on this site that the first commercial transatlantic telephone service signal was transmitted in 1927, to the American Telephone and Telegraph receiver site in Houlton, Maine, USA, the American town after which its Warwickshire counterpart is named.

Rugby Parkway is a proposed railway station on the eastern outskirts of Rugby, promoted by Warwickshire County Council. It was the subject of a high level feasibility study which recommended the station to be located on the Northampton Loop Line, near the Hillmorton area of Rugby, and close to new housing in Houlton and DIRFT.It will be near to the location of the former Kilsby and Crick station, which closed in 1960. In 2017, the Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) allocated £4 million to the project to develop this station as part of the Growth Deal. However in June 2018 the plans were put on hold after £4 million of funding from CWLEP was withdrawn when Warwickshire County Council could not meet the deadline to secure an additional £5 million from the government.In July 2019 Warwickshire County Council's Rail Strategy for 2019-2034 proposed that the station would be opened between 2019 and 2026, with the possibility that at some point additional platforms could be provided on the 'fast' West Coast Main Line lines, in addition to the slow lines via Northampton. In January 2023, Warwickshire County Council launched a public engagement on its outline plans for the station.

Rugby Radio Station was a large British government radio transmission facility just east of the Hillmorton area of the town of Rugby, Warwickshire in England. The site straddled the A5 trunk road, with most of it in Warwickshire, and part on the other side of the A5 in Northamptonshire. First opened in 1926, at its height in the 1950s it was the largest radio transmitting station in the world, with a total of 57 radio transmitters, covering an area of 1,600 acres (650 ha). Traffic slowly dwindled from the 1980s onwards, and the site was closed between 2003 and 2007.The tallest masts on the site were 820 feet (250 m) tall, and could be seen from up to 20 miles (32 km) away, making the site for many years a major local landmark. Since closure, part of the site has been used for a large housing development called Houlton, named after Houlton, Maine, USA the American town which received the first transatlantic phone call from the station in 1927.

Houlton School is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Houlton, Warwickshire, England. The school's buildings have been developed on the historic site of the Rugby Radio Station. Designed to serve 1100 students, the school opened on 1 September 2021 with its first cohort of 180 year 7 students.

Crick is a village in West Northamptonshire in England. It is close to the border with Warwickshire, six miles (ten kilometres) east of Rugby and 14 miles (23 km) northwest of Northampton. The villages of Crick and West Haddon were by-passed by the A428 main road from Rugby to Northampton when the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) was built in 1996. The terminal is a short distance east of junction 18 of the M1 motorway, which is next to Crick. Crick's population in the 2001 census was 1,460, increasing to 1,886 at the 2011 census.

Barby Storage Reservoir is a reservoir near Barby in Northamptonshire, England, owned and operated by Severn Trent Water. It supplies drinking water to Rugby, being fed by water pumped from Draycote Water.

Lilbourne is a village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire in England. It is close to the M1 motorway which runs east of the village, and the A5 road, west of the village which marks the boundary with Warwickshire, slightly to the north is the River Avon which marks the boundary with Leicestershire (the three counties meeting at Dow Bridge). At the time of the 2001 census, the parish's population was 254 people, increasing to 273 at the 2011 Census, and further to 305 at the 2021 census.

Greenhaven Woodland Burial Ground is a natural burial ground located in the village of Lilbourne, 5 miles (8 km) from the town of Rugby, England. It opened in 1994 and was the first privately owned natural burial ground in the country. Greenhaven is situated on 14 acres (57,000 m2) of former agricultural land and originally catered for approximately 7,000 plots, but as of 8 December 2008, roughly 5,000 of these remain.
