Horsemonger Lane Gaol

Newington Gardens is located on Harper Road in Southwark, London, England. To the north-west is the Inner London Sessions House, a Crown Court. Its area is 1.697 hectares (4.19 acres). The park occupies part of the site of an old prison that was closed in 1878. The park was opened by Catherine Gladstone, wife of the then prime minister, on 5 May 1884.The park occupies the site where Horsemonger Lane Gaol was located for almost a century from 1791. Designed by George Gwilt the Elder, architect surveyor to the county of Surrey, this was once the largest prison in the county. The MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) courts in the park are regularly used by the London Hardcourt Bicycle Polo Association for casual games and tournaments. Newington Gardens is the burial place of Lieutenant Thomas Beauclerk, who committed suicide in Horsemonger's Gaol on 27 / 28 November 1832 and he was buried in the vicinity of Horsemonger's Gaol. He was committed to the prison to await trial on a charge of sodomy.

The Inner London Sessions House Crown Court, more commonly known as the Inner London Crown Court and distinct from the Inner London Magistrates' Court, is a Crown Court building in Newington, London, United Kingdom. It is located in the Sessions House on Newington Causeway at the corner of Harper Road. It is a Grade II listed building.

The Henry Wood Hall is an orchestral rehearsal and recording studio in Trinity Church Square, Southwark, London, named after the conductor Sir Henry Wood. Formerly the Holy Trinity Church, it was designed in 1823–24 by Francis Octavius Bedford.In 1970, The London Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestras, carried out an assessment of various churches in London with a view to creating a new permanent orchestral rehearsal studio in London. Following their research into disused churches, the Holy Trinity Church in Southwark was identified and subsequently opened in 1975. The hall was named after Sir Henry Wood, an English conductor best known for his association with London's annual series of promenade concerts, informally known as the Proms, after receiving a substantial donation from the Henry Wood Fund (set up to rebuild the blitzed Queen's Hall).Visiting orchestras include the St Petersburg Philharmonic and the Japan Philharmonic which have recorded and rehearsed at the venue with many others.

This is also where the Inner London Sessions House, a Crown Court, and the Newington Court Business Centre are located. The Institute of Optometry, formerly the London Refraction Hospital, is at 56–62 Newington Causeway. The Salvation Army UK and Republic of Ireland headquarters occupy a large building at 101 Newington Causeway.The road forms part of the A3.

Trinity Church Square, formerly known as Trinity Square, is a garden square in Newington in the London Borough of Southwark. Trinity Church, in the centre of the square, has been the classical music rehearsal and recording venue Henry Wood Hall for nearly 50 years. It was built in 1824, and from 1826 to 1968 served as the parish church of the parish of Holy Trinity. It was declared redundant in 1968 and converted into an orchestral venue in 1975. The statue of a king on the stone plinth in the square is Grade II listed. The statue was speculated to be one of eight medieval statues from the north end towers of Westminster Hall (c. late 14th century) or, alternatively, one of a pair representing Alfred the Great and Edward, the Black Prince made for the garden of Carlton House in the 18th century. Analysis in 2021 showed that the top part was of Coade stone but the legs were Roman and of Bath stone.John Belcher lived at no 60 from 1849 to 1852, with his father, also an architect called John Belcher. They had previously lived nearby at 3 Montague Terrace (now 8 Brockham Street), where Belcher was born in 1841.The publisher and bookseller William Tegg (1816–95), son of Thomas Tegg (1776–1845), lived at no 11 from 1848 to 1852.The English Congregationalist divine Thomas Binney lived at no 40 from 1831 to 1832, and later lived at no 5.

Mercato Metropolitano is a food hall in Elephant and Castle, London opened in 2016. It is located inside a former papermaking factory. The food hall provides various options of fresh foods and meals including an Italian foods shop and market stalls. In 2025, plans were approved by Southwark to demolish the venue of Mercato Metropolitano as part of the Borough Triangle development, a controversial decision which was contested by locals, being seen as one of the only attractions left in Elephant and Castle and its closure as a "significant loss to the community". Part of the planned development includes a replacement food hall but there are no plans for a venue to host vendors during construction. A docu-series, "Unknown Chefs" released in 2025 explored the stories of four chefs at Mercato Metropolitano, prompting plans to open a filming studio.

The Institute of Optometry is a centre for optometry, based in south London, England. It was established in 1922 as the London Refraction Hospital.

The statue of Alfred the Great in Southwark is thought to be London's oldest outdoor statue. The lower portion comes from a Roman statue dating to the late 1st or early 2nd century AD, while the top portion is a late 18th- or early 19th-century Coade stone addition in medieval style.

The University College of Osteopathy (UCO), formerly the British School of Osteopathy (BSO), is the largest and oldest school of osteopathy in the United Kingdom. The UCO holds Recognised Qualification (RQ) status from the statutory regulatory body for osteopathy in the UK, the General Osteopathic Council. The institution was granted degree awarding powers in October 2015. It was given University College status in September 2017 from the UK Privy Council, and it is an exempt charity.

The King's Bench Prison was a prison in Southwark, south London, England, from medieval times until it closed in 1880. It took its name from the King's Bench court of law in which cases of defamation, bankruptcy and other misdemeanours were heard; as such, the prison was often used as a debtor's prison until the practice was abolished in the 1860s. In 1842, it was renamed the Queen's Bench Prison, and became the Southwark Convict Prison in 1872.

The Gladstone Arms is a public house in Lant Street in the Borough – the Southwark district of London. It is also known as The Glad. Built on the site of a Victorian pub, the current building was constructed in the 1920s. It has been threatened by redevelopment but its popularity as a meeting place and live music venue have caused it to be recognised as an asset of community value.
