Englischer Garten

The Chinese Tower (German: Chinesischer Turm) is a 25-metre wooden building resembling a pagoda at the Englischer Garten in Munich, Germany. The building was constructed from 1789 to 1790 and was opened to the public as an observation deck during the opening of the Englischer Garten in 1792. The tower burned down during the bombing of Munich during World War II and was reopened as a reconstruction in 1952. Today the tower is considered a landmark of the Englischer Garten.In the 1970s the tower was closed to the public because of security reasons and can since be accessed only by the music groups that still play at the tower. A reconstructed carousel originally dating back to the Biedermeier period is located near the tower, as well as numerous restaurants. The so-called Kocherlball festival has been held at the Chinese Tower on the third Sunday of July since 1989.

The Eisbach (German, 'ice brook') is a small, 2-kilometre-long (1.2 mi), man-made river in Munich. It flows through the park known as the Englischer Garten, and is a side arm of the Isar River. A man-made wave has been created on one section, which is popular among river surfers. Swimming in the Eisbach is not technically allowed, but as the rule is not stringently enforced, swimmers are common, especially on warm summer days. However, swimming in the cold, fast stream is dangerous: Between 2007 and 2017 alone, eight people drowned in the Eisbach.

The Königinstraße is a street in Munich. It runs west of the Englischer Garten from the Von-der-Tann-Straße in the district of Maxvorstadt, to the north and to the Maria-Josepha-Straße and Mandlstraße in the Ensemble Alt-Schwabing.

Walking Man is a 1995 sculpture by Jonathan Borofsky, standing 17 metres (56 ft) tall and weighing 16 tonnes (35,000 lb). It is located on the Leopoldstraße in Munich, next to the Munich Re business premises. It was presented to the public on 21 September 1995 by then-head of Re, Hans-Jürgen Schinzler, and then-mayor of Munich, Christian Ude.After presenting the 25-meter high Man Walking to the Sky sculpture at Documenta 9, Borofsky was one of six artists invited to the competition for Re's new building. The sculpture was initially created in Los Angeles, and took more than a year to complete. It was shipped to Munich in nine pieces. The work has been well received by the press and is popular with the public.

Giselastraße is a Munich U-Bahn station located in the Munich borough of Schwabing-West. It services both the U3 and U6 subway lines. The station is located underneath Leopoldstraße, one of Munich's main traffic arteries.

The Luitpold-Gymnasium is a secondary school in Munich, Germany. It was established by Prince Luitpold of Bavaria in 1891 as "Luitpold-Kreisrealschule" to serve the eastern part of the city and its suburbs. It stood in the Alexandrastrasse opposite the National Museum. The building was almost completely destroyed by incendiary bombing in 1944, leaving only parts of the facade and the gymnasium (sports hall). The school shared the facilities of the Wilhelmsgymnasium until 1958 when it was able to move into a new building on Seeaustraße 1. The school introduced the Kollegstufe system in 1975 and became co-educational in 1983.

St. Sylvester is a Catholic church and parish in Schwabing, now part of Munich, in the German state (Bundesland) of Bavaria. It began with a village church in the 14th century, first documented in 1315, and dedicated to John the Baptist. A Gothic church was remodelled in Baroque style in the 17th century, and received furnishings such as sculpture attributed to Ignaz Günther or his school. The parish was split and renamed, and the part with one of the oldest churches in Munich became a parish dedicated to Pope Silvester I in 1921. The church was expanded in 1925/26 by a new part connected to the old church. The new church features an altar painting depicting the patron saint kneeling in prayer for Schwabing, several other altars, and ceiling paintings in Casein technique including the vision of Constantine the Great, the emperor who granted free religion to the Christians while St. Sylvester was pope. The church is located in the center of the early village, near the Englischer Garten.

The Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft (German: [ˈmʏnçnɐ ˈlax ʔʊnt ˈʃiːsɡəˌzɛlʃaft]; Munich laughing and shooting company) is a German political kabarett (satirical revue) that runs at its own theatre in Schwabing, Munich. It was founded in 1956 by journalist Sammy Drechsel and comedian Dieter Hildebrandt, who were soon joined by Klaus Peter Schreiner. Walter Kabel was responsible for the show's music from 1956 to 1972, which included his own compositions.

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) is an international, interdisciplinary center for research and education in the environmental humanities located in Munich, Germany. It was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of LMU Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) and the Deutsches Museum, and is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The center is named after the American biologist, nature writer, and environmentalist, Rachel Carson. The Rachel Carson Center's directors are Christof Mauch of LMU Munich and Helmuth Trischler of the Deutsches Museum.
