Galena Creek Schoolhouse

The Galena Creek Bridge is a twin-span concrete arch bridge in Washoe County, Nevada. The bridge carries Interstate 580 and U.S. Route 395 over the Galena Creek between Carson City and Reno. It was opened to traffic in late August 2012.The bridge has a total length of 1,725 feet (526 m) and main span length of 689 feet (210 m). The height is 295 feet (90 m). The bridge is reportedly the largest cathedral arch bridge in the world; that is a type of open-spandrel deck arch bridge where the arch supports the deck only at the center.Construction was started in 2003 but was delayed by a number of safety concerns and other issues. In 2006, the original prime contractor found the planned construction method unsafe; the method was revised and a new contractor hired. In 2010, several long superficial cracks were found. On July 28, 2012, the Nevada Department of Transportation held a community event for pedestrian, bicycle, and limited motor vehicle traffic to see the bridge prior to it opening for traffic; the bridge and freeway project opened in late August 2012.

Galena, Washoe County, Nevada is an abandoned town in Washoe County, Nevada, south of Reno. The portion of Reno just south of Mount Rose Highway and west of Steamboat Springs is also known as Galena. Galena was developed as a mining property in 1860, with the discovery of silver in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The town greatly expanded after 1862, when it also became an important lumbering center. By 1863, there were eleven sawmills operating in Galena. The town's streets during the height of commercial activity, were crowded with "grog shops overflowed with charcoal burners, wood choppers, timbermen, millers, miners, bullwhackers and teamsters"The town was abandoned after 1867, following two disastrous fires. In 1990, the University of Nevada, Reno Mackay School of Mines operated a training site for students at the nearby Union Mine.The site is marked by Nevada Historical Marker number 212.

The community is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area and Interstate 580, U.S. Route 395 and U.S. Route 395 Alternate run through it and act as a divider between the eastern and western halves of the valley.

The Alamo Ranchhouse, near Steamboat, Nevada, is a historic "plantation style mansion" that was built in 1887. Also known as the Moffat Ranchhouse, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The listing included one contributing building and one contributing structure.It is significant as the home of John Sparks, governor of Nevada during 1903–08, and later as the home of "cattle baron" William H. The 1954 NCAA Skiing Championships were contested at the first annual NCAA-sanctioned ski tournament to determine the individual and team national champions of men's collegiate alpine and cross-country skiing in the United States. This championships were held March 4–7 at Slide Mountain outside Reno, Nevada, hosted by the University of Nevada.Denver finished ahead of Seattle to claim the team championship; the Pioneers were coached by Willy Schaeffler. Nevada senior Pat Myers won the downhill, edging out Olympian Darrell Robison of Utah.

Ophir Creek is a 7.7-mile (12.4 km) eastward-flowing stream originating in Tahoe Meadows just south of Tamarack Peak and southeast of Mount Rose Summit, a pass on Nevada State Highway 431. Ophir Creek flows to Washoe Lake in Washoe County in western Nevada, shortly after passing under U.S. Route 395.

Mount Rose Ski Tahoe is a ski resort in the western United States, in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Reno, Nevada. The closest resort to the city, it is located about thirty miles (50 km) south-southwest of Reno, in the Carson Range. It has the highest base elevation of a Tahoe-region ski area, at about 8,260 ft (2,520 m) and the summit is 9,700 ft (2,955 m). The resort area is 1,200 acres (4.9 km2) and is located in Toiyabe National Forest.Despite the name, the resort is actually on the slopes of Slide Mountain rather than Mount Rose, which is on the other side of Nevada State Route 431. New Washoe City is an unincorporated community located in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. It is located in the Washoe Valley in southern Washoe County between Reno and Carson City, on the east side of Washoe Lake. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 1990 census, New Washoe City had a population of 2,875. The area was not listed as a census-designated place (CDP) at the 2000 census but was listed as "Washoe Valley, Nevada", for the 2010 census, at which time it had a population of 3,019.New Washoe City was founded as a planned community in 1961. Lots were on sale for $1500 then, $35 down and $35 per month.New Washoe City is named after the older, much smaller nearby locale of Washoe City, commonly referred to as Old Washoe City, which clusters around the northwest side of Little Washoe Lake. New Washoe City is probably best known for its nearby proximity to Washoe Lake, Little Washoe Lake and the adjacent Washoe Lake State Park.
