Galena, Washoe County, Nevada is an abandoned town in Washoe County, Nevada, south of Reno. The portion of Reno just south of Mount Rose Highway and west of Steamboat Springs is also known as Galena. Galena was developed as a mining property in 1860, with the discovery of silver in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The town greatly expanded after 1862, when it also became an important lumbering center. By 1863, there were eleven sawmills operating in Galena. The town's streets during the height of commercial activity, were crowded with "grog shops overflowed with charcoal burners, wood choppers, timbermen, millers, miners, bullwhackers and teamsters"The town was abandoned after 1867, following two disastrous fires. In 1990, the University of Nevada, Reno Mackay School of Mines operated a training site for students at the nearby Union Mine.The site is marked by Nevada Historical Marker number 212.

Pleasant Valley is a very small, unincorporated community in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. The ZIP Code for Pleasant Valley is 89521. The community is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area and Interstate 580, U.S. Route 395 and U.S. Route 395 Alternate run through it and act as a divider between the eastern and western halves of the valley.

Old Washoe City is a ghost town in Washoe County, Nevada, in the United States. Nearby there is a new community called New Washoe City.

The Galena Creek Schoolhouse in Washoe County, Nevada, in Reno, is a historic schoolhouse that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.It is located just south of Galena Creek near Callahan Park.Nevada's most famous poet of the 1960s and 1970s, Joanne de Longchamps lived in the schoolhouse in 1975 and wrote a book of poetry named "The Schoolhouse Poems". In 1974 Joanne wrote “Three years ago Galen and I acquired (at an auction from the School District ) an acre of land at timberline. It lies under the dominion of Mount Rose and Galena Creek. In one corner of this acre is the schoolhouse – a one room building of hand-cut local stone. To my knowledge, this is the third schoolhouse to stand on or near this site. The first was built when the town of Galena thrived in the 1860s, a timbering town (no longer in existence) that supplied the mines of Virginia City."

The Alamo Ranchhouse, near Steamboat, Nevada, is a historic "plantation style mansion" that was built in 1887. Also known as the Moffat Ranchhouse, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The listing included one contributing building and one contributing structure.It is significant as the home of John Sparks, governor of Nevada during 1903–08, and later as the home of "cattle baron" William H. Moffat. It was the center of what was once a 2,500-acre (1,000 ha) ranch. The house was moved in 1978.

Galena High School is a public secondary school in Southwest Reno, Nevada that is a part of the Washoe County School District. The school mascot is the Grizzly Bear, and the school's colors are black and gold. Their sports teams are known as the "Galena Grizzlies". Galena has been accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools.

As of the 1990 census, New Washoe City had a population of 2,875. The area was not listed as a census-designated place (CDP) at the 2000 census but was listed as "Washoe Valley, Nevada", for the 2010 census, at which time it had a population of 3,019.New Washoe City was founded as a planned community in 1961. Lots were on sale for $1500 then, $35 down and $35 per month.New Washoe City is named after the older, much smaller nearby locale of Washoe City, commonly referred to as Old Washoe City, which clusters around the northwest side of Little Washoe Lake. New Washoe City is probably best known for its nearby proximity to Washoe Lake, Little Washoe Lake and the adjacent Washoe Lake State Park. New Washoe City is connected to the Reno-Carson City corridor, US 395/I-580 and U.S. Route 395 Alternate by Eastlake Boulevard (former State Route 428). Washoe City, founded in August 1861, was the first county seat of Washoe County. Washoe Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. It corresponds closely to the unincorporated community of New Washoe City. The population was 3,019 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area. The CDP takes its name from the Washoe Valley, a region between Reno and Carson City centered on Washoe Lake.

Steamboat Springs is a small volcanic field of rhyolitic lava domes and flows in western Nevada, located south of Reno. There is extensive geothermal activity in the area, including numerous hot springs, steam vents, and fumaroles. The residential portions of this area, located mostly east of Steamboat Creek and south of modern-day SR 341, are now known simply as Steamboat. The state of Nevada has a Steamboat Springs Historical Marker (#198) situated along the eastern shoulder of the busy Carson–Reno Highway (US 395 Alt.), approximately 1.65 miles (2.66 km) south of the Mount Rose Junction (the intersection with SR 341 and SR 431). There were once several mineral spas operating here along Steamboat Creek, with at least one still in business called Steamboat Hot Springs Healing Center & Spa.The water from the springs contains many minerals including: calcium carbonate, magnesium, sodium sulfate, carbon dioxide, lithia, soda and silica.

Ophir Creek is a 7.7-mile (12.4 km) eastward-flowing stream originating in Tahoe Meadows just south of Tamarack Peak and southeast of Mount Rose Summit, a pass on Nevada State Highway 431. Ophir Creek flows to Washoe Lake in Washoe County in western Nevada, shortly after passing under U.S. Route 395.

Mount Rose Station is a proposed hotel and casino located at the intersection of Herz Boulevard and Mount Rose Highway next to The Summit in Reno, Nevada. The land is owned by Station Casinos and is located on 88 acres (36 ha) of land.The building design is similar to Aliante (formerly known as Aliante Station), Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock Resort.
