Bourne End, Buckinghamshire

Well End is a hamlet in the parish of Little Marlow, in Buckinghamshire, England. It is situated on the north-west side of the village of Bourne End. Although it lies in a separate parish, it is geographically contiguous with and subordinate to Bourne End; but unlike most of the hamlets consumed by its larger neighbour, it retains a distinct character, and the use of the name is common and well recognised locally. The area was once known as Fontibus de Merlow, (Marlow Fountain), of which Well End is a likely etymological derivative. It is endowed with Abbotsbrook Hall, a small, parish council-owned venue used for community events. The local hostelry is The Black Lion situated on Marlow Road. Claytons School, the junior school serving Well End and Bourne End, is sited locally on Wendover Road. There is nearby access to the Little Marlow Gravel Pits nature reserve and to the River Thames towpath. Well End was formerly home to a Congregationalist mission hall and The Blacksmiths Arms public house.

It is on the Marlow Branch Line between Maidenhead and Marlow, 4 miles 36 chains (7.2 km) down the line from Maidenhead and 28 miles 55 chains (46.2 km) measured from London Paddington. Services are provided by Great Western Railway. The ticket office is open on weekday and Saturday mornings. There is a customer car park south of the station. The station has two platforms.

Bourne End Railway Bridge is a railway bridge carrying the Marlow Branch Line, and a footpath over the River Thames in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, England. It crosses the Thames on the reach between Cookham Lock and Marlow Lock. The bridge was originally constructed in wood by Isambard Kingdom Brunel as part of the Wycombe Railway, opened in 1854 and operated in broad gauge until 1870. The narrow spans were unpopular with river traffic and the bridge was reconstructed in steel in 1895. A footbridge, cantilevered out from the railway bridge was added in 1992, to take the Thames Path across the river; this substitutes for the historical towpath crossing point at Spade Oak ferry, about 1 km upstream of the bridge.In 2013, the bridge was restored and repainted in green, and a large number of rivets which had rusted away were replaced. The restoration took nearly a year to complete, being finished in December. There was a plan to electrify the line, but due to cost overruns during electrifying the GWR main line, this has apparently been postponed indefinitely.

Bourne End Academy, is a co-educational secondary school in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, England. It is a secondary school, which takes pupils from the age of 11 to 18. The school is a smaller than an average secondary school, with just around 800 pupils attending every year.In September 1998 the school was awarded specialist school status as a Sports College and furthermore, in 2012, the school was awarded the status of a specialist Science College, by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).Bourne End Academy is also one of only a number of schools in the area to possess a special department for students on the Autistic spectrum, named as the A.R.P. (Additional Resources Provision) Department. The academy offers a range of different opportunities to all pupils, including extra curricular clubs. In 2012 Wye Valley achieved 47% A*-C grades (including English and Mathematics) at GCSE with the results below national level placing it in the 4th quantile in comparison to other schools. In 2017, Bourne End Academy achieved 65% A*-C grades (including English and Mathematics) at GCSE. In 2018 the school's GCSE results were -0.28, below average. In 2019 the school's GCSE results declined to -0.49 below average. The latest national performance data from the Department of Education recognises E-ACT Bourne End Academy as the top comprehensive secondary school in Buckinghamshire with 58% of students achieving a Grade 5 or higher in English and Maths. The school was put into a state of 'Special Measures' after both the school, and its management, were classified as 'Inadequate' by Ofsted in January 2013. After the report, the school's governing body was disbanded, and an Interim Executive Board (IEB) was imposed, which as of March 2014, is still in place. As of 2017, the school judged by Ofsted to require improvement but still part of an Interim Executive Board. in September 2018 the school was taken over by E-ACT and has recently received an Ofsted Inspection rated 'Good' and 'Outstanding' in Leadership and Management. In 2014 E-ACT downsized and 10 schools were re-brokered to other multi-academy trusts. It has since started expanding again. Pupils from E-ACT Burnham Park Academy, which has closed due to falling pupil numbers, have been offered the opportunity of transferring to Bourne End Academy.

Coldmoorholme (or Coldmoorholm, formerly Coldmoorham or Coldmorham) is a hamlet in the parish of Little Marlow in Buckinghamshire, England. It is now considered part of the village of Bourne End, and locally the area is known as 'Spade Oak'.

The River Wye is a river in Buckinghamshire, England. Around 10.5 miles (16.9 km) in length, it rises close to West Wycombe village in the Chiltern Hills and flows through High Wycombe before emptying into the River Thames at Bourne End, on the reach above Cookham Lock. In particularly wet years, the source can temporarily change and effectively extend the river by another mile, due to a chalk spring rising above the ground in a field further up the same valley. High Wycombe takes part of its name from the river, which now runs mostly underground through the town. Pann Mill watermill, at the eastern end of Wycombe, is the last remaining watermill on the River Wye.

Fern House Gravel Pit is a 1.3-hectare (3.2-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Fern, near Bourne End in Buckinghamshire. It is also a Geological Conservation Review site.This site exposes the Pleistocene Taplow Gravel formation, and may help to elucidate a poorly understood period in the history of the River Thames, between glacial Anglian stage, around 450,000 years ago, when the river was diverted south to its present course, and the warm Ipswichian around 120,000 years ago. Fossils found at the site include straight-tusked elephants and mammoths.The site is on private land with no public access.

Fern is a hamlet in the parish of Little Marlow, in Buckinghamshire, England. Historically this was a wasteland area of the parish, off the Marlow to Bourne End road. A workhouse was built here in 1781, which was a productive needlework and embroidery manufactory during the Victorian times. After the workhouse was sold to private hands in the early twentieth century, it became known as Fern House, and other cottages and houses were built along what is now Fern Lane. The Little Marlow parish cemetery is located at the end of the road. It was consecrated in 1900 and has a small chapel. The popular crime writer Edgar Wallace is buried there. There is a small, disused gravel pit in the hamlet, the Fern House Gravel Pit. Significant geological formations have been noted in the sides of the pit and this is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Adjacent to Fern, on Sheepridge Lane, is the headquarters of the Vulcan Explorer Scouts unit.

Cock Marsh is an area of marsh land and steep chalk slope covering more than 150-acre (61-hectare) north of Maidenhead in Berkshire. It includes a 45-acre (18-hectare) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is also the location of a Round barrow cemetery and common land where livestock have grazed for hundreds of years. Cock Marsh is owned and managed by the National Trust.

Sheepridge is a hamlet in the parish of Little Marlow, in Buckinghamshire, England. The hamlet is located in a small indentation of an outlying part of the Chiltern Hills. It can be found on Sheepridge Lane, which connects Flackwell Heath to Well End and Bourne End. There are a few houses and one public house, The Crooked Billet.
