Ludworth Intake (grid reference SJ994911) is a 5.1-hectare (13-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest at Ludworth on the border of Derbyshire and Greater Manchester, England. It was notified in 1998 for its geological interest.The site, north-east of Marple Bridge and south of Chisworth, comprises a sinuous dry valley running for about 400 metres (1,300 ft) south from Intakes Farm, cutting through a broad ridge running east–west. It is considered to have been formed by a meltwater stream running beside or below a glacier. Pollen analyses from the site show that the channel dates from before the Younger Dryas (around 12,900 to 11,700 years BP). It has been described as "an exceptional and nationally important example of an isolated col channel cut by glacial meltwater" and as having "considerable potential for further study". A public road, Sandhill Lane, runs parallel to the eastern side of the valley and cuts across its southern end near the former Ludworth Moor Colliery, which ceased operation in the early 1980s.

Whitle is a historic hamlet in Derbyshire. The Whitle area is now part of the town of New Mills, and lies between the centre of the town and the hamlet of Thornsett. The main approach to the hamlet is via an unadopted road from the south, connecting with Apple Tree Road. This continues north-east as a public bridleway and private driveway to Mellor Road. Public footpaths lead north-west and WSW across New Mills Golf Course, which is immediately west of the hamlet.

Holehouse is a hamlet in Derbyshire, England. It is located 2 miles west of Glossop, on the A626 road close to Charlesworth.

Lantern Pike is a hill located just outside Hayfield, in Derbyshire, England. The land lies within the Peak District National Park and is owned and maintained by the National Trust. It is permanently open to the public. According to Ordnance Survey, it is 373 metres (1,224 ft) in height (measured by air survey).According to the booklet 10 Walks Around Hayfield, published by the Peak District National Park Authority, the name Lantern Pike probably comes from the hill's use as a beacon. The hill is a popular hiking destination, and is often considered a continuation of nearby Kinder Scout. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs south to north past the summit and the Pennine Bridleway crosses the eastern flank of the hill.Lantern Pike gives its name to the Lantern Pike Inn in nearby Little Hayfield.

Birch Vale railway station served the village of Birch Vale, Derbyshire, England, from 1868 to 1970 on the Hayfield branch.

Ollersett is an area of New Mills, Derbyshire, England, about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) northeast of the town centre, between St. George's Road and High Hill Road. It is about 1,650 feet (500 m) long with about 100 houses, mostly built in the late 1940s.

The Forest of Lyme (pronounced "Lime") is a former, mainly elm tree, forest in the present day counties of Cheshire, Staffordshire and parts of Derbyshire. Parts of the forest remain and its name is preserved in many local place-names.

Birch Vale is a village in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, just outside the boundary of the Peak District National Park, between New Mills and Hayfield. Most of Birch Vale, including the attached hamlet of Thornsett, comes under the administration of New Mills Town Council, though the small part to the east of the former Grouse Inn public house is within the boundaries of Hayfield.

Brown Low is a bowl barrow most likely dating to the Bronze Age. An earth and stone mound survives east of Marple, Greater Manchester (grid reference SJ98829092). It is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The mound was partially excavated by the Rev William Marriott in 1809,: 374–391  who discovered fragments of burnt stones and cremated bones, as well as a preserved acorn. Marriott also describes the finding of a funerary urn in an adjacent barrow during an unauthorised excavation.: 377, 383  Brown Low is on private land, just east of a public footpath running off Sandy Lane.

Charlesworth is a village and civil parish near Glossop, Derbyshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 2,449. It is 2 miles (3.2 km) south-west of Glossop town centre and close to the borders of Greater Manchester with the nearby village of Broadbottom in Tameside. The parish church of St John the Baptist was built in 1848–49. The Congregational Chapel was rebuilt from an earlier chapel in 1797. The Baptist Chapel was built in 1835. Broadbottom Bridge, one end of which is in Cheshire, was built in 1683. Charlesworth holds an annual carnival on the second Saturday in July on its recreation ground on Marple Road, which includes fell races and other events. The village is at the foot of the "Monks' Road", which was used by the monks of Basingwerk Abbey in North Wales. At the top of the road is the Abbot's Chair, the base of a monastic cross also known as the Charlesworth Cross.

The Abbot's Chair is the common name of a former monastic cross, the Charlesworth Cross. Only the socket remains of this boundary cross, built by the monks of Basingwerk Abbey in North Wales. Henry II of England gave the manor of Glossop to the monks, and they gained a market charter for Glossop in 1290, and one for Charlesworth in 1328. In 1433 the monks leased all of Glossopdale to the Talbot family, later Earls of Shrewsbury. It is close to the town of Glossop in the High Peak borough of the English county of Derbyshire, on the so-called Monks Road, near the entrance track to Taiga Farm. The monks used this route in order to reach Hayfield, Simmondley and other villages.
