Little Hayfield is a hamlet in the Peak District National Park, in Derbyshire, England. It lies on the A624 between Hayfield and Glossop. At the centre of the hamlet is the Lantern Pike pub, named after the nearby hill of the same name. Fell racing take place in Little Hayfield, and until 2021 an annual country show was held on a local farm, including sheepdog trials.From Clough Mill, a former water-powered and later steam-powered textile mill converted to apartments in 1989, a footpath leads to the summit of Lantern Pike.The screenwriter Tony Warren lived in the village, and is said to have conceived the soap opera Coronation Street in the Lantern Pike pub. Actors Pat Phoenix and Kenneth Cope had spells living in the village, as did producer Bill Podmore.

Chunal is a hamlet in Derbyshire, England. It is located on the A624 road, 1 mile south of Glossop. The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein conducted aeronautical research at Chunal during his time as an engineering research student at Manchester University (1908–1911). He flew kites into the upper atmosphere.There are three listed buildings in the locality, all designated at Grade II: White House, a farmhouse dated 1669; an 18th-century barn to the south of Shepley Farm; and Horseshoe Farmhouse and an adjacent barn. A public house, the Grouse Inn, closed in 2014/15 and is now a private house.

Lantern Pike is a hill located just outside Hayfield, in Derbyshire, England. The land lies within the Peak District National Park and is owned and maintained by the National Trust. It is permanently open to the public. According to Ordnance Survey, it is 373 metres (1,224 ft) in height (measured by air survey).According to the booklet 10 Walks Around Hayfield, published by the Peak District National Park Authority, the name Lantern Pike probably comes from the hill's use as a beacon. The hill is a popular hiking destination, and is often considered a continuation of nearby Kinder Scout. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs south to north past the summit and the Pennine Bridleway crosses the eastern flank of the hill.Lantern Pike gives its name to the Lantern Pike Inn in nearby Little Hayfield.

Charlestown is a village in Glossopdale, Derbyshire, England. It is in the Simmondley Ward of the High Peak District Council. The village is situated on the A624 road between Glossop and Hayfield.

St. James's Church is an Anglican church in the evangelical tradition in the town of Glossop, Derbyshire, in the north-west of England. Along with St. Luke's Church, it makes up Whitfield Parish within Derby Diocese.The churchyard contains war graves of three soldiers of World War I.

Simmondley is a small village near the town of Glossop in Derbyshire, England. The population of the High Peak ward at the 2011 Census was 4,727. It has one pub, the Hare and Hounds, in the south of the village at the top of Simmondley Lane. The pub is a part of the original farming community with the adjacent farmhouse, barn and stables converted into houses. The Jubilee pub was built in 1977, in celebration of the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II. After 40 years, the brewery that owned the Jubilee sold it at auction; the buyer demolished the building in 2017 to build houses on the site and adjoining car park. In August 1981 the Sorgro convenience store opened on Pennine Road. In recent years this has been a Spar, an Alldays and is currently run by The Co-operative Food. There is a post office, a Chinese takeaway, a dentist, a doctor, a chemist, a coffee shop and a hairdressers. Many large housing projects have recently been completed in Simmondley, including a large housing estate off Valley Road that stretches towards the existing Manchester rail line. Simmondley has a number of public areas, including: a children's play park area with swings and a centre climbing frame; an enclosed floodlit games court called the S.M.U.G.A (Simmondley Multi Use Games Area) with football nets and basketball hoops; open grassland around the estate mainly surrounding the Werneth Road area; a village green to the top of Simmondley with a public phone box, post box, plant pots and seating (during the Christmas period this is the location of the Simmondley Christmas Tree). The housing developments south of the village have led to it being considered by some as a suburb of Glossop, rather than a separate settlement as it is contiguous with Glossop, although in recent years the local council has installed Simmondley signs at accesses to the village to mark that it has its own separate identity. Simmondley is at the bottom of the so-called Monks' Road, a road used by the monks of Basingwerk Abbey to administer the abbey's estate. It leads to Charlesworth, Chisworth and Hayfield.

Old Glossop is a parish village and the original part of the town of Glossop in the High Peak area of Derbyshire, England, about 15 miles (24 km) east of Manchester and 23 miles (37 km) west of Sheffield. The village is on the very edge of the Peak District national park. The town centre was originally this village, but it migrated to the west with the industrial revolution and the building of a planned mill town (originally called Howard Town or New Glossop) and the railway from Manchester to Sheffield and its branch to Glossop railway station just north of Norfolk Square.Although High Peak Borough Council has now called a large area of Glossop "Old Glossop" for political ward reasons, the original parish boundaries cover an area with a population of about 1,100. At the beginning of the 1900s the village had eight pubs, but there are now only three: the Bull's Head, the Wheatsheaf and the Queen's Arms Hotel. In addition, a microbrewery, Howard Town Brewery, is located in Old Glossop. In 2013, Old Glossop was used for filming in the BBC drama series The Village, starring John Simm and Maxine Peake. The parish church of All Saints and the former Duke of Norfolk school building appeared in the series.

Whitfield is a hamlet and former parish in Derbyshire, England. It is half a mile (1km) south of Glossop Town Hall, south of Glossop Brook between Bray Clough and Hurst Brook. Whitfield was one of the original townships in the ancient Parish of Glossop. Up to the latter part of the 18th century the hamlet was devoted mostly to agriculture with an area of 2,608 statute acres. The area rises from about 169m to about 266m above mean sea level.

St Matthew's Church, Hayfield, is the parish church of Hayfield, Derbyshire, England. The church, parts of which date from the 14th century, is a Grade II listed building and adjacent to the River Sett. Its five-stage clock tower is the main landmark for the village. The church is built in local gritstone ashlar in an Early English Gothic style and is surrounded by a small graveyard. It is also adjoined by a small church hall dating from 1977, erected over part of the graveyard, with a newly landscaped community garden on the north side of the building. St Matthew's is an active Anglican parish church in the Diocese of Derby, arranging services on Sundays, in addition to baptisms, weddings and funerals. It is the venue for a variety of community events including concerts, art displays, and annual May Queen and well dressing festivals. The clergy is shared with the Parish of Chinley & Buxworth; the current vicar is John Hudghton.
