Broughton, Salford

The Church of the Ascension is a Grade II listed Anglican church in Lower Broughton, Salford, England. In February 2017 a fire destroyed the roof and interior of the building.

The Victoria Theatre, Salford, is a theatre in the Lower Broughton area of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. It is situated on Great Clowes Street, on the corner of the Elton Street. The theatre officially opened 10 December 1900 and was last in use as a bingo hall in 2008. The original capacity was 2,000 seated, this was increased to 3,000 in 1910. Palatial Leisure Limited sold the building in September 2018.

Wheater's Field was a rugby ground in Broughton, Salford, England. It was home to the Broughton Rangers rugby league club of the Northern Union. On 19 October 1907, the stadium hosted a match between Rangers and the New Zealand All Golds. It had a capacity of 20,000. Rangers would call the stadium home until just before the First World War when they moved to the nearby Cliff. The ground hosted two Challenge Cup finals, in 1907 Warrington 17 Oldham 3 and in 1921 Leigh 13 Halifax 0.Wheater's Field is now a housing estate and its location is traceable through the naming of three streets: Wheater's Crescent, Wheater's Street and Wheater's Terrace.

The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, Manchester (Greek: Ιερός Ναός Ευαγγελισμού της Θεοτόκου) is a Greek Orthodox church in Salford, Greater Manchester. Completed in 1861 in a classical architectural style, it is the oldest purpose-built Greek Orthodox church in England and since 1980, a grade II listed building for its “special architectural or historic interest”. As of 2017 the church provides liturgies on Sundays and acts as a hub for a community of an estimated 2,500 Greek diaspora, particularly Greek Cypriots, British Cypriots and Greek students in Manchester.A church hall annexe is used for a Greek community school with over 100 pupils studying the culture of Greece, history of Greece and Greek language. The church hall is also used to celebrate events in the calendar of saints and the liturgical year such as Easter, Christmas and other traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

St James' Church is in Great Cheetham Street East, Broughton, Greater Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church, in the deanery of Salford, the archdeaconry of Salford, and the diocese of Manchester. Its benefice has been combined with those of St John the Evangelist, Broughton, and St Clement with St Matthias, Lower Broughton.

Beis Yaakov High School is a Jewish secondary school with academy status for girls. It is in Higher Broughton, Salford, in the English county of Greater Manchester. See Beis Yaakov for a discussion of the school's philosophy and positioning. The school primarily serves the Haredi Jewish community in Salford, Bury, and Manchester. It was founded as a private school in 1957, and became a state-funded voluntary aided school in 2005. The school converted to academy status in 2012.The School was declared as "Requires Improvement" by Ofsted in 2016, and again in 2022. The School was then placed in Special Measures with the Ofsted report stating in the first line of the 2022 Report that "Over time, leaders have prioritised the needs of staff to the detriment of pupils’ education. There is a deeply entrenched culture among staff of apathy and lack of routine. Staff do not take their roles as educators seriously enough."In July 2023 a monitoring inspection concluded that the School had made some progress to address these failings but remained in special measures due to continuing inadequacies in quality of education and teaching.

The Cliff is a sports ground in Broughton, Salford, England, on the banks of the River Irwell, that was rugby league club Broughton Rangers' home ground until 1933. It was purchased by association football club Manchester United for use as their training ground. It was used as the club's primary training facility until 1999, when it was replaced by the Trafford Training Centre in Carrington, though it continues to host some Manchester United academy matches. It is also sometimes used by Salford rugby league side as a training venue.

Broughton Suspension Bridge was an iron chain suspension bridge built in 1826 to span the River Irwell between Broughton and Pendleton, now in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. One of Europe's first suspension bridges, it has been attributed to Samuel Brown, although some suggest it was built by Thomas Cheek Hewes, a Manchester millwright and textile machinery manufacturer.On 12 April 1831, the bridge collapsed, reportedly due to mechanical resonance induced by troops marching in step. As a result of the incident, the British Army issued an order that troops should "break step" when crossing a bridge. Although rebuilt and strengthened, the bridge was subsequently propped with temporary piles whenever crowds were expected. In 1924 it was replaced by a Pratt truss footbridge, still in use.

The Manchester Assize Courts was a building housing law courts on Great Ducie Street in the Strangeways district of Manchester, England. It was 279 ft (85 m) tall and from 1864 to 1877 the tallest building in Manchester. Widely admired, it has been referred to as one of Britain's 'lost buildings'. It was severely damaged by wartime bombing in the Manchester Blitz, and then the remains were demolished in 1957.

The Centenary Building is a building at the University of Salford in Greater Manchester, England. It was designed by the architect Stephen Hodder, completed in December 1995 and opened in 1996. The building won the RIBA Award and inaugural Stirling Prize in 1996, and the Civic Trust Award in 1998.

Blackfriars is an outer-city suburb of Salford in Greater Manchester, England. It is situated along the banks of the River Irwell, close to the traditional centre of Salford at Greengate, between Manchester City Centre and Broughton. Blackfriars contains Blackfriars Park, one of Salford's smaller parks, and is home to the Friars Primary School.Due to slum clearance very few buildings in Blackfriars now predate the 1960s. One notable exception is the 1871-built tavern on Blackfriars Road, which has now been converted into homes for shared ownership.

Bankside at Colliers Yard is a residential high-rise building under construction in the Greengate area of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The building is part of developer Renaker's Greengate masterplan called Colliers Yard, which consists of three adjacent towers, the others being Cortland which topped out in July 2022, and Parkside which was granted planning permission in March 2023. When completed, at 129 m (423 ft), it will be the third-tallest building in Salford and the 10th-tallest building in Greater Manchester. It was designed by Denton Corker Marshall.
