Łaziska Górne

The Bolesław Śmiały coal mine is a large mine in the south of Poland in Łaziska Górne, Silesian Voivodeship, 172 km south-west of the capital, Warsaw. Bolesław Śmiały represents one of the largest coal reserve in Poland having estimated reserves of 50 million tonnes of coal. The annual coal production is around 2.13 million tonnes.

Łaziska Power Station (Polish: Elektrownia Łaziska) is a thermal power station in Łaziska Górne, Poland. The first Łaziska Power Station was inaugurated in 1917. In 1929, an 87.1 MW unit was inaugurated making it to the largest power station in Poland at those days.

Mokre (German: Mokrau) is a sołectwo in the west of Mikołów, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was an independent village but became administratively part of Mikołów in 1975.

Śmiłowice (German: Smilowitz) is a sołectwo of Mikołów, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was an independent village but as a part of gmina Mokre was administratively merged into Mikołów in 1975.

Mikołów County (Polish: powiat mikołowski) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and largest town is Mikołów, which lies 12 kilometres (7 mi) south-west of the regional capital Katowice. The county also contains the towns of Łaziska Górne, lying 5 km (3 mi) south-west of Mikołów, and Orzesze, 11 km (7 mi) west of Mikołów. The county covers an area of 231.53 square kilometres (89.4 sq mi). As of 2019 its total population is 98,689, out of which the population of Mikołów is 40,898, that of Łaziska Górne is 22,298, that of Orzesze is 21,043, and the rural population is 14,450.

Mikołów [miˈkɔwuf] (German: Nikolai, Silesian: Mikołōw) is a town in Silesia, in southern Poland, near the city of Katowice. It borders the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union, a metropolis with a population of over 2 million, and is within a greater Silesian metropolitan area populated by about 5,294,000 people. The population of the town is 40,898 (2019). Located in the Silesian Highlands, on the Jamna stream, a tributary of the Kłodnica River and indirectly the Oder. It is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship since its formation in 1999, previously in Katowice Voivodeship, and before then, of the Silesian Voivodeship.

Gostyń [ˈɡɔstɨɲ] (German Gostin) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Wyry, within Mikołów County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) south-west of Wyry, 8 km (5 mi) south of Mikołów, and 19 km (12 mi) south-west of the regional capital Katowice. The village has a population of 3,400.

The Battle of Mikołów (Polish: Bitwa pod Mikolowem, Bitwa wyrska) refers to the border engagement on September 1 and 2, 1939, that took place in the area of the town of Mikołów, which is located in the Polish part of Upper Silesia, during the early stages of the Invasion of Poland in the Second World War.

Bujaków (German: Bujakow) is a sołectwo in the west of Mikołów, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was an independent village but was administratively merged into Mikołów in 1995.

Zawiść (German: Zawisc) is a sołectwo in the east of Orzesze, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was an independent village but as a part of gmina Gardawice was administratively merged into Orzesze in 1975. It has an area of 6.6 km² and about 1,933 inhabitants.

Paniowy (German: Groß Paniow) is a sołectwo in the west of Mikołów, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was an independent village but as a part of gmina Mokre was administratively merged into Mikołów in 1975.

Gmina Wyry (German: Wyrow) is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Mikołów County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the village of Wyry, which lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) south of Mikołów and 15 km (9 mi) south-west of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina also contains the village of Gostyń. The gmina covers an area of 34.45 square kilometres (13.3 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 8,316.
