Iztapalapa (modern Nahuatl pronunciation ) is a borough (demarcación territorial) in Mexico City, located on the east side of the entity. The borough is named after and centered on the formerly independent municipality of Iztapalapa, which is officially called Iztapalapa de Cuitláhuac for disambiguation purposes. The rest is made up of a number of other communities which are governed by the city of Iztapalapa. With a population of 1.8 million as of 2010, Iztapalapa is the most populous borough of Mexico City, and it is also the most populous municipality in the country. Over 90% of its territory is urbanized. The borough transitioned from a rural area with some farms and canals as late as the 1970s, to an area with the only green areas in parks and almost all of its people employed in commerce, services and industry. This is the result of a large influx of people into the borough starting from the 1970s and which still continues. Iztapalapa remains afflicted by high levels of economic deprivation, and a significant number of its residents lack access to clean drinking water. Iztapalapa has one of the highest rates of violent crime in Mexico City, and combatting homicides and drug trafficking remain a major issue for local authorities.The borough is home of one of Mexico City's major cultural events, the annual Passion Play in which 450 borough residents participate and about 2 million attend as spectators.

Iztapalapa is a station along Line 8 of the metro of Mexico City. It is located on the Calzada Ermita Iztapalapa (also known as Eje 8 Sur) in the Colonia El Santuario neighborhood of Iztapalapa borough on the southeast side of the city.The station's logo is a sun, representing the ceremony that is celebrated in Iztapalapa every year of the birth of the new sun.The station was opened 20 July 1994. Estación Iztapalapa is also the name of a firefighting station in the borough.

Cerro de la Estrella (English: Hill of the Star) is an underground station along Line 8 of the metro of Mexico City. The station is located along the Calzada Ermita-Iztapalapa and serves the Colonia Hidalgo y Mina neighborhood within the Iztapalapa borough on the east side of the city. The station is named for the Cerro de la Estrella – a mesoamerican archaeological site located nearby. It was opened on 20 July 1994.The station's logo is the silhouette of a hill with three crosses on it and a star in the sky. In spring during Easter the station sees heavy traffic for spectators who travel to Cerro de la Estrella to watch Passion of the Christ procession events.From 23 April to 18 June 2020, the station was temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico.

Atlalilco is a station along Line 8 and Line 12 of the metro of Mexico City. Atlalilco is a transfer station between the Line 12 and Line 8. Line 8 station is located on the Calzada Ermita Iztapalapa, while Line 12 station is located on Avenida Tláhuac, in the Colonia Santa Isabel Industrial neighbourhood.The station's logo is a well of water. Atlalilco in Nahuatl means: "where water is kept". It opened for service along Line 8 on 20 July 1994. The distance of the interstation tunnel is about 800 m (2,625 ft) long because the original plan for a transfer station to be named Axomulco was canceled. The interstation tunnel runs underground through Calzada Ermita Iztapalapa and Avenida Tlahuac, with an additional access to the station at the intersection of both avenues. It is the only station that has mechanical bands to assist in the interstation walk.

Cerro de la Estrella National Park is centered on the Cerro de la Estrella mountain which is located entirely within eastern Mexico City, in the borough of Iztapalapa. The park was originally designated in 1938 with 1,100 hectares, but the growth of the city has encroached on it and left it with less than 200 hectares. The park is meant to provide cultural and recreational opportunity as well as to protect the mountain, which is important archaeologically and culturally as the site of the pre Hispanic New Fire ceremony and the modern-day Passion Play. Archaeological remains include temples related to the ceremony and older structures such as housing units, petroglyphs, and a major temple related to the Teotihuacan culture. The park and the archaeological sites remain in danger of destruction by encroachment, use of land for agriculture, graffiti and the dumping of garbage.

Cerro de la Estrella is a Mesoamerican archaeological site located in southeastern Central Mexico's Valley of Mexico, in the Iztapalapa alcaldía (English: mayoralty) of Mexico City at an elevation of 2460 meters (8070 ft) above sea level, hence its Summit is 224 m over the Valley of Mexico level. At the southeast edge of what was the Great Texcoco Lake. Historical sources establish that ancient inhabitants of the Mexican Plateau knew this place as Huizachtecatl. The site was very important since the “New Fire” ritual ceremony was performed here; it had a profound meaning for the population here and in surrounding regions.

La Nueva Viga Market is the largest seafood market in Mexico and the second largest in the world after the Toyosu Market in Japan. It is located in Mexico City far inland from the coast, because of historical patterns of commerce in the country. The market handles 1,500 tons of seafood daily, representing about 60% of the total market. Most of the seafood is distributed to the Mexico City metropolitan area and the states surrounding it, but there is distribution to other states and abroad.

The Central de Abasto (also spelled Abastos; English for "Supply Center") is Mexico City's main wholesale market for produce and other foodstuffs run similarly to traditional public markets. It was constructed to be the meeting point for producers, wholesalers, retailers and consumers for the entire country. Located in the eastern borough of Iztapalapa, it is the most important commercial establishment in Mexico and the largest of its kind in the world. The market handles over 30,000 tons of merchandise daily, representing 80% of the consumption of the Mexico City metropolitan area. The market was established on former farmland to ease congestion in the historic center of Mexico City.

UAM-I is a station along Line 8 of the Mexico City Metro.The station's logo is the logo of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana campus Iztapalapa, which is close to the station. The station was opened on 20 July 1994. Until September 1996 this station was known as La Purísima, the name of the street where it is located. The previous logo was the silhouette of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Escuadrón 201 is a metro station in Mexico City, Mexico. It is located in the city's eastern Iztapalapa delegación, close to the intersection of Eje 3 Oriente (Axis 3 - East) and Eje 8 Sur (Axis 8 - South).The station was named in honor of Escuadrón 201, the Mexican military aviation unit that assisted the United States in the Philippines during World War II.The logo of the station is the insignia of Escuadrón 201. It was opened on 20 July 1994.

UAM Iztapalapa is one of the five academic units of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City. UAM Iztapalapa is located in the eastern portion of the city and was founded on September 30, 1974. It offers 26 undergraduate and 27 graduate degrees.

Aculco is a station along Line 8 of the metro of Mexico City. It is located under the bridge where the Trabajadoras Sociales (Eje 6 Sur) passes over the Eje 3 Ote in the Colonia Pueblo Aculco neighborhood of the Iztapalapa borough of Mexico City. The station's logo is a water wave in a canal. In Nahuatl it means "where the water twists". The name is also the name of the Aculco municipipality in the State of Mexico.
