Folkteatern is a regional theatre in Gothenburg, Sweden. The theater receives grants and assignments from the Västra Götaland Regional Council.The theatre was built 1951 at Järntorget and has from the start had close connections with the worker's movement. Today the theatre is funded by the government as well as the regional authority and is owned by 300 different organizations. The big stage has 400 seats, while the smaller one have a capacity of 60 seats. The theatre has had a broad repertoire, from classical pieces like Hamlet to contemporary, political and satirical plays. Among the directors of the theatre through the years have been Lennart Hjulström and Iwar Wiklander.

Göteborg Film Festival (GFF), formerly Göteborg International Film Festival (GIFF), known in English as the Gothenburg Film Festival, formerly Gothenburg International Film Festival, is an annual film festival in Gothenburg, Sweden and the largest film event in Scandinavia. When it was launched in 1979 it showed 17 films on 3 screens and had 3,000 visitors. Today, the film festival takes place over 10 days each year at the end of January and beginning of February. In later years around 450 films from 60 countries are screened for 115,000 visitors. The film festival is also an important market place for the contractors in the movie industry.

Järntorgsbrunnen (Swedish for The Well of the Iron Square), or using the artists title, De fem världsdelarna (The Five Continents), is a sculpture by Tore Strindberg, inaugurated October 12, 1927 at Järntorget, Göteborg, Sweden. The sculpture consists of a granite fountain with five naked, female, bronze sculptures (by Tore Strindberg), representing five continents: Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Australia (Oceania). A ship at the top is seen sailing five streams, symbolizing the five oceans. Since the piece is to remind us of the old iron scale which used to be located on this spot (hence the square's name, The Iron Square), 30 hallmarks from those ironworks who exported their goods via Göteborg can be seen throughout the sculpture.

Järntorget is a public square in Gothenburg, Sweden. A hub for public transport (see Gothenburg tram system), it is located west of Haga and is the starting point for the boulevards of Linnégatan to the south and Nya Allén to the east; and the streets of Första Långgatan and Andra Långgatan to the west. Järntorget is the traditional home of the city's labour movement, with the Social Democratic Party, ABF, Folkteatern, Folkets hus and trade unions located here.Järntorget ("The Iron Square") was named after the now-demolished scale which once stood on the site. It was used for weighing iron to be exported from the city's harbour. The former site of the scale is now occupied by a large, granite fountain called De fem världsdelarna. The fountain includes sculptures featuring five bronze naked, female figures representing five continents: Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The fountain and the sculptures were the work of Swedish sculptor Tore Strindberg (1882–1968). The plinth in the centre of the fountain is decorated with the stamps which were used by the large number of Swedish iron merchants which once traded in the city. The fountain was first erected in 1927 and has been moved twice since then.

The Dahlsjö Case (Swedish: Dahlsjöfallet) refers to the mass disappearance of Kjell-Åke Johansson (born 9 April 1949), Jan Olof Dahlsjö (born 8 June 1944) and Gay Roger Karlsson (born 25 March 1943) from a café in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden on 29 July 1965. The trio, who after being witnessed departing from the café in a midnight blue 1956 Volvo PV444 belonging to Dahlsjö, have never been seen since, even though various purported sightings of the trio were reported in August 1965 and 1966. Additionally, Hübner "Hymme" Olof Alexis Lundqvist (born 6 February 1947), son of Evert Lundquist, was last verifiably reported alive after sending a postcard to his parents in Torekov from the Gothenburg Central Station on the same date as the trio disappeared. Although Lundqvist is commonly believed to have died whilst hitchhiking with the Dahlsjö trio, sightings of him in Adelaide, Australia in 1966 and Singapore in 1968 have been reported. In addition, a robbery at a bank in Gamlestaden, Gothenburg also occured on 29 July 1965. The peculiar escape plan by the robbers, which included escaping in a river by using wetsuits, made mass media dub the crime "Grodmansrånet" (the Frogman Robbery). It is unclear whether the robbers were directly involved in the disappearance of the four men, though the Swedish Police have since discredited this theory.

Haga is a city district in Gothenburg, Sweden, renowned for its picturesque wooden houses, 19th century-atmosphere and cafés. Originally a working class suburb of the city with a rather bad reputation, it was gradually transformed into a popular visiting place for tourists and Gothenburgers. A major renovation of the area was made in the 1980s, houses were either renovated or torn down and replaced by post-modernistic replicas. Today, Haga has a population of about 4,000 people (4,093 at 2006), a much smaller population compared to 15,000 people one hundred years ago – an indication of the gentrification the district has gone through.Haga is also a parish with the same borders as the city district. It is, areawise, the smallest parish in Sweden.

Skansen Kronan ("the Crown Sconce") is a redoubt on the hill Risåsberget, in the Haga district of Gothenburg, Sweden. The fortress and its twin, Skansen Lejonet, were built to protect the city of Gothenburg against possible Danish attack, and thus had a similar purpose to the sea fort of New Älvsborg, which was built around the same time.

Feskekörka (Swedish: [ˈfɛ̂sːkɛˌɕœrːka]; standard: Fiskkyrkan, "fish church") is an indoor fish market in Gothenburg, Sweden, which got its name from the building's resemblance to a Neo-gothic church. It opened on 1 November 1874, and was designed by the city architect Victor von Gegerfelt. Feskekörka is an institution in Gothenburg as well as a tourist magnet, housing one of the city's oldest trades, fishing. Apart from a fish market, there is also a fish and seafood restaurant in the building.

Syndikalistiskt Forum is a self-managed social centre in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was founded in 1980, at the Sprängkullen social centre. It moved to the Landsvägatan and then the Folkets hus. Between 2012 and 2018, it was based at Övre Husargatan 27, where it had a café, infoshop and library. It is now located at Linnégatan 21 in the Viktoriahuset.In 2014, the Forum organised a free week-long film festival at the same time as the Gothenburg Film Festival. Groups such as Planka.nu, Allt åt alla, Solgruppen Göteborg and Gothenburg feminists organised evenings. On 11 November 2016, a bomb went off outside the centre. Windows were broken but nobody was hurt. In January 2017 there were two more bombings outside refugee centres and three neo-Nazis connected to the Nordic Resistance Movement were arrested and charged regarding the incidents. They received prison sentences of eight and a half years, five year and one and a half years respectively.The centre held its radical bookfair for the fourth time between 28 September to 1 October 2017. The event occurs at the same time as the Gothenburg Book Fair.

Andra långgatan (Second Long Street) is a street in Gothenburg, Sweden. It starts west of Haga at Järntorget and ends at Masthuggstorget. The street is renowned for its many restaurants, bars, galleries and record shops. Although the street has a dodgy past its reputation has now been redeemed. It is now a "magnet for creative types" according to Lonely planet. The tourists have yet to find this street but alternative Gothenburgians love the street for its "authenticity". It doesn't house any major commercial corporations such as Mcdonald's or H&M but more smaller venues. Once every year (since 2007) andra långgatan houses a street party. On this day, the shop owners and restaurants bring their products to the outside, local commerce takes place and music is filling the streets. The event is not advertised and the date is spread through social media and word of mouth.

On 15 February 1932, three people were killed and seven others wounded in an explosion at an apartment building in Gothenburg, Sweden. Investigators determined that Bernhard Johansson, whose ex-wife lived in the complex, had intentionally detonated explosives to kill her. He was found dead of self-inflicted injuries that morning.

Oscar Fredrik Church (Swedish: Oscar Fredriks kyrka) is a church in Olivedal in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was drawn by Helgo Zetterwall and erected in the 1890s. Belonging to the Gothenburg Oscar Fredrik Parish of the Church of Sweden, it was opened on Easter Sunday 1893. The style is Neo Gothic, but the influence is not the Nordic gothic style but rather the style one can find in the large cathedrals in continental Europe. The church and the parish got its name from king Oscar II (Oscar Fredrik being his full name).
