The Battle of Desio was fought on 21 January 1277 between the Della Torre and Visconti families for the control of Milan and its countryside. The battlefield is located near the modern Desio, a commune outside the city in Lombardy, Northern Italy. Although generally considered one of the numerous minor battles fought in the 13th century in Italy during the Wars of the Guelphs and Ghibellines, it was in fact the conclusion of a long inner struggle for the possession of Milan, leading to the transformation of the former democratic regime into an aristocratic signoria. The Visconti victory granted them the rule over Milan, which lasted until the 15th century.

The Villa Torneamento is a historical building in Monza, northern Italy, in the Taccona Street, in the northern suburbs of the city, in the district of San Fruttuoso. It is 400 metres (1,300 ft) from the residential district of Triante. Known as The Castle by residents, it is used by the Daughters of Divine Zeal for a nursery school and primary school called Padre Annibale di Francia.

It lies 25 kilometres (16 mi) north of Milan, at an elevation of 250 metres (820 ft) above sea level where the last morenic hills of upper Lombardy meet the Lombard plain. It borders on the communes of Seregno, Carate Brianza, Sovico, Triuggio, Lissone.

Located on the Milan–Asso railway, it serves the town of Cabiate and it also represents the principal entrance to the Parco della Brughiera, a wood from Cabiate to Montorfano. Here there's also an interchange with the C80 autobus line Monza-Meda-Cantù.
