The Ivan Cankar District (pronounced [ˈiːʋan ˈtsaːŋkaɾ]; Slovene: Mestna četrt Ivan Cankar) is a city district of the City Municipality of Maribor in northeastern Slovenia. It is named after Ivan Cankar, one of Slovenia's greatest writers. In 2014, the district had a population of 7,242.

Capuchin Church was a church of the Capuchins in Maribor in Slovenia. It was built in the 17th century and replaced by the Franciscan Church near the end of the 19th century. From 1890 to 1891, the New Chapel of the Great Cemetery was built according to the design of the architect Kārlis Neiburgers, supervised by the architect Kārlis Felsko and the engineer F. Engelsons. This was the fourth chapel to be built here. The previous one was built between 1859 and 1861 to a design by Johann Daniel Felsko.

The Basilica of Our Mother of Mercy (Slovene: bazilika Matere Usmiljenja) is a Franciscan church in Maribor, Slovenia.

Maribor Castle is a Baroque mansion in the town of Maribor, northeastern Slovenia. It contains a regional museum.

The Center District (pronounced [ˈtseːntəɾ]; Slovene: Mestna četrt Center) is the central district of the City Municipality of Maribor in northeastern Slovenia. It comprises the inner city area of the city of Maribor, including Main Square, the commercial streets, and Maribor Town Hall. In 2014, the district had a population of 6,975.

Maribor Synagogue (Slovene: Sinagoga Maribor) is a former synagogue and current museum in the city of Maribor, Slovenia. Located in what was the center of the medieval Maribor ghetto Židovska ulica ("Jewish Street"), it is one of the oldest preserved synagogues in Europe, and one of only two left in Slovenia; the other being the Lendava Synagogue (Slovene: Sinagoga Lendava). It once functioned as the centre of the medieval Jewish community in Maribor, among the most prominent in the Eastern Alps-area.

The Lent International Summer Festival is a major arts festival held for approximately two weeks at the end of June annually in Maribor, Slovenia. Organized by the Narodni dom Cultural Center every year the festival attracts theatre, opera, ballet performers, classical, modern, and jazz musicians and dancers from all over the world as well as visitors. There are also mimes, magicians, and acrobats performing during the festival. There are several sub festivals including the Otroški Lent (Children's Lent) which is organized to cater for the interests of children and the Lent International Jazz Festival which has attracted some of the world's most famous names including Ray Charles, B.B. King and Jose Feliciano, violinists such as Stéphane Grappelli and noted Slovene performers such as Vlado Kreslin and Zoran Predin.

The Faculty of Law (Slovene: Pravna fakulteta, PF) in Maribor is a member of the University of Maribor. It was founded in 1960 as a higher law school for education of lawyers in commercial entities. In 1990 it was re-established as a high law school in Maribor with a programme for education of lawyers of universal profile. Since 1993 its official name is Faculty of Law. In 2009 it started with internationally comparable Bologna programmes.

Marburg's Bloody Sunday (German: Marburger Blutsonntag, Slovene: Mariborska krvava nedelja) was a massacre that took place on Monday, 27 January 1919 in the city of Maribor (German: Marburg an der Drau) in Slovenia. Soldiers from the army of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia), under the command of Slovene officer Rudolf Maister, killed between 9 and 13 civilians of German ethnic origin, wounding a further 60, during a protest in a city centre square. Estimates of casualties differ between Slovene and Austrian sources. In November 1918, after the First World War ended, the territories of southern Carinthia and southern Styria, which had been claimed by both the Republic of German Austria and the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, were captured by military units under Maister's command. Maribor was the largest city of southern Styria and had a predominately German population, while the surroundings were almost exclusively Slovene. A US delegation led by Sherman Miles visited Maribor on 27 January 1919 as part of a wider mission to resolve territorial disputes. On the same day, German citizens organised a protest proclaiming their desire for Maribor to be incorporated into the Republic of German Austria. When the German protesters attacked the Slovenian police commissioner Ivan Senekovič, Maister's soldiers fired shots into the air and later at the people, causing few casualties. In response, German Austria launched a military offensive which expelled the Yugoslavs from several small towns in Upper Styria along the Mur River. A ceasefire was agreed under the mediation of France in February 1919. According to the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, signed on 10 September 1919, Maribor and the rest of Lower Styria became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. No one was ever charged over the Maribor shooting.

Maribor Cathedral (Slovene: mariborska stolnica), dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the city of Maribor, northeastern Slovenia. The church is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maribor and the parish church of the Parish of Maribor–St. John the Baptist. It is also the resting place of Bishop Anton Martin Slomšek, an advocate of Slovene culture.

The Archdiocese of Maribor (Latin: Archidioecesis Mariborensis, Slovene: Nadškofija Maribor) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Slovenia. Its episcopal see is Maribor.

Maribor Town Hall (Slovene: Mariborski rotovž) is the town hall of Maribor, Slovenia. It is situated on the town's Main Square (Glavni trg). Built in 1515, it was remodeled in Renaissance style between 1563 and 1565. In the mid-19th century, it was again renovated in the late Classical style, but was later restored to its original 16th-century appearance. Adolf Hitler visited Maribor on 26. 4. 1941. According to an urban legend he addressed local Germans from the building's main balcony, overlooking the square. This did not happen as neither Hitler nor any of the officers accompanying him held any public speech (containing the infamous sentence "Make this land German again") on that day.In addition to city offices, the hall also houses a Slovene national cuisine restaurant, Toti Rotovž. In the square outside the hall there stands the Plague Memorial, which commemorates the “black death” that devastated the city in 1680.
