Moffat railway station

Moffat Museum is a community museum in Moffat, Scotland. It was established in the Old Moffat Bakehouse in 1984. The museum expanded into a neighbouring building and reopened in 2013. It is arranged over two floors and has a courtyard at the back of the building. The subjects covered by the museum focuses on local and family history and includes topics such as farming, local trades and crafts, sports, education and the Hydropathic Hotel and Spa. There is also a model railway and information on Moffat railway station.

Moffat (Scottish Gaelic: Mofad) is a burgh and parish in Dumfriesshire, now part of the Dumfries and Galloway local authority area in Scotland. It lies on the River Annan, with a population of around 2,500. It was a centre of the wool trade and a spa town. Moffat is around 59 miles (95 kilometres) to the southeast of Glasgow, 51 miles (82 kilometres) southwest of Edinburgh, 21 miles (34 kilometres) northeast of Dumfries and 44 miles (71 kilometres) northwest of Carlisle. The Moffat House Hotel, located at the northern end of the High Street, was designed by John Adam. The nearby Star Hotel, a mere 20 ft (6 m) wide, was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the narrowest hotel in the world. Moffat won the Britain in Bloom contest in 1996. Moffat is home to Moffat toffee. The town is held to be the ancestral seat of Clan Moffat. The Devil's Beef Tub near Moffat was used by the members of Clan Moffat and later the members of Clan Johnstone to hoard cattle stolen in predatory raids.

Moffat Town Hall is a municipal building in the High Street in Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The structure, which is used as community events venue, is a Category B listed building.

Moffat Academy is a school in Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It educates children from nursery to Secondary 6.

Beattock railway station was a station which served the village of Beattock, in the parish of Kirkpatrick-Juxta in the Scottish county of Dumfries and Galloway. It was served by trains on what was originally the Caledonian Main Line, and is now known as the West Coast Main Line. Between 1881 and 1964, Beattock was also the junction for the short branch line to Moffat. Following closure in 1972, the nearest station is at Lockerbie.

Beattock is a village in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, approximately 1⁄2 mile (800 metres) southwest of Moffat and 19 miles (31 kilometres) north of Dumfries. Beattock was historically served by the A74 road and the West Coast Main Line, however the road has since been upgraded to the A74(M) motorway and no longer passes through the village. Beattock railway station was closed in 1972. Beattock Summit is located approximately 10 miles (16 km) to the north of the village in the neighbouring administrative area of South Lanarkshire. At 1,033 ft (315 m) it is the highest point on both the M74, and on the West Coast Main Line within Scotland. The poet W. H. Auden's 1936 work Night Mail makes reference to the summit. The Southern Upland Way and the Annandale Way run close to the village.

Auchencastle railway station was a private station which served Auchencastle, near Beattock, in the Scottish county of Dumfries and Galloway. It was used by railwaymen and families and was served by local trains on what is now known as the West Coast Main Line. The nearest station for Auchencastle is now at Lockerbie.

Kirkpatrick-Juxta is a parish in Dumfries and Galloway on the A701, between Biggar, Moffat and Lockerbie. The parish straddles the main road A74 (M). It is primarily a rural parish. One source describes its name as meaning "the lands next to the church of St Patrick". Another source describes it as the church of St. Patrick named in the 15th century as closest to the See of Glasgow (the other churches were Kirkpatrick-Fleming, Kirkpatrick in Nithsdale, Kirkpatrick-Durham and Kirkpatrick-Irongray). Another source says the original name was Kilpatrick.The 1791-1845 Statistical Accounts of Scotland described the size of the Parish as 21,000 acres or 33 square miles with Johnstone Parish to the South, Crawford and closeburn to the West and Wamphry and Moffat to the East and North. Previously the parish was part of the county of Dumfriesshire but became part of the Dumfries and Galloway Council Area following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974. The parish church was built in 1798/1799 designed by John McCracken a mason from Dumfries. It was remodelled and given a new interior in 1875 by James Barbour. The previous church was built about 1676.The parish includes Beattock railway station, sections of the River Annan and Queensberry Hill.The ruins of Auchincass Castle also lie in the parish.

Cornal Tower is the ruins of a tower house located near Moffat, Dumfries-shire, Scotland. Alternative names are Polcornare, Cornal Burn, or Logan. The ruins are located on a plateau and the grounds consisted of five farms.The place was said to be a hunting lodge for Scottish kings. In the 15th century the land was given to the Carruthers family of Mousewald. Then it was given to Johnstone of Coreheard. It was also later owned by the Duke of Queensberry.Only a portion of the north wall currently remains.

The Crown of Scotland is a hill in the Scottish Borders, Scotland. At a relatively small elevation from the surrounding peaks, it is situated to the north of the Devil's Beef Tub and the town of Moffat. The hill's unusual name derives from the alliance made between Robert the Bruce and James Douglas, Lord of Douglas upon its summit in 1306, following the former's murder of the Red Comyn at Greyfriars kirk in Dumfries, and when Bruce was on his way to Scone to be crowned by Bishop William de Lamberton.

Greenhillstairs is the steep B719 road north of Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The road, about 3 miles long, leaves the A701 Moffat to Edinburgh main road passes over the A74(M) and then joins the B7076 service road running parallel to the motorway. The B719 descends steeply into the Evan Water valley with views across the valley.

The Devil's Beef Tub (Marquis of Annandale's Beef-Tub, Beef-Stand, MacCleran's Loup) is a deep, dramatic hollow in the hills north of the Scottish town of Moffat. The 500-foot-deep (150-metre) hollow is formed by four hills, Great Hill, Peat Knowe, Annanhead Hill and Ericstane Hill. It is one of the two main sources of the River Annan.
